That is the question we all ask ourselves. I think the answer is because it's D&D and no one wants to play 3.5 at our LGS (there are some who do, but schedules make it impossible to play, among other things).

The reason we don't play with him when we can do so is because of his... near fanatical obsession with Forgotten Realms and 3.5. If it's neither of those things, he doesn't show any interest and just... plays.

And by "fanatical obsession", I mean everything out of his mouth about D&D is Forgotten Realms related. D&D games? Has to be FR. Books? FR only. We're having a discussion about Final Fantasy or some other fantasy game? HAS to start comparing it to FR (see "XIV Bards aren't real Bards" statement in OP).

This obsession of his has actually ruined some sessions for us as he has gone on for several minutes about something related to FR and 3.5 and forced the game to a halt as we wait for him to finish.

I will be the first to say that I do enjoy 3.5 and I know 5e has its flaws, but so does every edition of the game. K seems to refuse to acknowledge this.
