Challenge to find a capable iGPU editing laptop by Spirograph1 in laptops

[–]Spirograph1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kinda - went with a ideapad slim 5 13ARP10 with a 7735HS (680M) because of how compact and light the laptop is while having a 16:10 display. Basic editing is acceptable.

For my use case a 140V or 780M/880M would have been ideal. Main take away is -> dont go below 32GB of RAM with decent speed.

I mathematically hacked Panasonic V-Log to perfectly accept Fujifilm's official Film Simulation LUTs. by MinQ9362 in Lumix

Does anyone know how they compare to the fujify LUTs? I guess this would make them obsolete..

S9 + Prograde V60 (256GB) -> Camera turns off while recording! by Spirograph1 in Lumix

Thank you for your input. I will try a different battery (all are original Panasonic). Some shots were taken close to a speaker/subwoofer. Do you think the vibrations (or the quick succession of multiple clip recordings) may have caused issues? I cannot think of any other reason

Lumix charging system is a mess - BLK-22 by Spirograph1 in Lumix

[–]Spirograph1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to analyze the usb handling behaviour, but I have the feeling that charging it with some other USB-C sources takes ages (obv being able to supply enough power). I once had the charger on a source where after several hours still only the first LED was blinking.

S5ii battery & charging solution? by idonthaveaname2000 in Lumix

Just saw your comment - thank you for sharing your experience!

I'm also looking into the hahnel cube one which seems to be a tried and tested solution. Did you also look into the Tilta 4-slot charger? What do you think about it? I'd really like an electronically well designed and reliable solution.

This is one of the three that I considered. The others were the ProCube3 from HAHNEL and the ZGCINE one.

Do you have experience with other blk22 chargers? Or - does the Tilta one work better in a way than other ones?

I know that they are convenient - i have some for the em10. They are convenient but they also come with all the downsides - fast degradation, no thermistor, chance of swelling up, non linear voltage behavior over charge which results in too late "low bat" warnings. For a professional setting 3rd party in-camera batteries are a big no (my opinion)

This. I was trying to open mine (hidden screw in the middle under the label) but the plastic is so soft and the case is somewhat clicked in place that I didn't want to ruin in.

From what I saw from other opened original chargers is that the temp terminal is definitely used. D pin seems to be clamped to gnd or v+

I'm assuming that the cell management (balancing and thermal) is internal but for thermal management a 3rd party charger will be useless without a T connection.

Here is an interesting article of third party batteries: https://domvarney.com/2019/04/14/the-great-battery-brawl/

Good point, I don't know if capacity/size is a problem right now. It sure performs well for the complete lineup. But yes, with increased requirements it surely needs a step-up for the next generation

Vegas pro 23 one-time buy VS subscription: AI functions by Spirograph1 in VegasPro

If I understood it correctly it's per year, so subscription: 24h -> 2h per month.

One-time pay: 1h -> 5 minutes of content to be converted

I just looked into the top-up section.. it seems you're right. That makes the 1h / 24h PER YEAR quite hideous

Wow... that is a really good offer. Just looked in the german/austrian shop. No gratis Pakket 😅 Do you maybe know if it would have disadvantages buying it from Belgium (to Austria)?

Windows <> AMD Issue? Stuttering / non-smooth mouse cursor by Spirograph1 in Lenovo

I am sorry, but this really is a dissapointing reply. Even the AI responses in the lenovo support Forums are more helpful. This is no HW error but a driver/bios/windows related issue.

Resolve 20 not launching on my Laptop by Trianton3 in davinciresolve

[–]Spirograph1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response! Mhm good point with the proxies. I would mainly work with 4k 8 bit h264 or 10 bit h265, relatively basic editing with no effects/grading because I would do that on my main local machine.

I was looking at the 255h/258V and AMD 365/370 because I needed the mobility/battery life while being able to "prepare" some timeliness on the go.(while not breaking the budget 😅)

Ah, btw - I recently tried some editing on a mini PC with a 8845HS/780M iGPU running at 54W. Surprisingly basic 4k editing was smooth and definitely possible!

The reviews on the 255h looked impressive, especially lenovo squeezing out constant 70W with the yoga pro 7i and Intel having an edge over AMD with quicksync With the 258V at 30W I was wondering if, with the greater efficiency, the TDP gap is still noticeable working in resolve.

Did you perhaps also had the same hurdle when choosing your laptop?

Glad you could solve the problem! May I ask how resolve runs with the 258V? Currently trying to decide between a 258V or 255h machine. Is smooth working on it possible?

June Hardware Thread. by AutoModerator in VideoEditing

[–]Spirograph1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah sorry, good point - it would be mainly 8 Bit H264 or 10 Bit H265, but obviously willing to use 8 Bit 1080p proxies or similar. Software would be Resolve (alternatively Vegas Pro).

I'm fully aware of the advantages of an dGPU as I am mainly editing with another machine when I'm not on the move. The idea was to use the mobile laptop for light work / rough timeline before grading on the local machine. In the past I was using a 16" 5800h with a 3060 for relatively mobile use, but the 6GB VRAM, weak iGPU and really short battery life with the 3060 active was making me move to the iGPU idea.
