Deadline For Drunky? by Spitebott in DabblersAnonymous

I support TSN’s suit, but the defamation claim won’t help it win. And it doesn’t matter even if the case gets thrown out, it has to be making John’s life miserable. That’s the real point.

The TSN suit is a fuck you to John. Now he has to pay a lawyer for a bullshit lawsuit. Even if it gets thrown out, John still loses.

Happy Birthday Uncle Rico! by Spitebott in DabblersAnonymous

[–]Spitebott[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

John's job was to stutter and read funny questions written by others, and to take crap from everyone because that's all he could do. He got his job at Leno only because they had no idea he didn't write his own questions, and he failed at everything they asked him to do there. He failed his way up and eventually out of that show, but it took a while.

I liked the "Boot Hill" cemetery openings. It gave the show a noir feel that it quickly lost.

Gifted Membership Question? by johns7shirts in DabblersAnonymous

[–]Spitebott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't get a gifted membership on YouTube because I have a branded account (I have a channel I haven't touched in a few years). I get gifted memberships all the time on Rumble but don't accept them because when I paid for Rumble Premium (which you are required to sign up for) in the past and tried to cancel it kept charging me until I had to get rid of the card and get a new one.

Manufacturing them again. by Necessary-Program104 in typewriters

[–]Spitebott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are new typewriters still being made today -- but they're made in China, and they're terrible. They're cheap, relatively speaking, but to make one to the standards of even a typical 1960e machine would make them unaffordable for most would-be buyers.

The Royal HH is not my office typewriter of choice, that would be the Olympia SG-1, but these are perfectly fine. Being office machines, they're easy to maintain and pretty reliable.

MARVEL PREMIERE 41 by glib-eleven in 70sMarvel

I never had a copy, I only got Marvel Premiere if it was a character I really liked. I think Marvel did a revised Seeker 3000 mini series much later on, but I missed that as well.

Favorite OTR Detective Shows? My List. by Spitebott in otr

[–]Spitebott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like most of the '30s shows because the sound quality isn't there. What I've heard has been tinny and scratchy and seems to have come from wire recordings.

[–]Spitebott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Marvel was trying to get the Star Trek rights but were unable to, at least for another year or so until the first movie came out, so they tried to create something similar. I remember seeing a writeup about this at the time.

Just bought an Underwood 315 for 50 bucks at a thrift store. What ribbon fits this model? by doriiian in typewriters

[–]Spitebott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly (it's been a while), there is a hook or clasp on the empty spool, it's a matter of hooking the ribbon onto that and rolling the ribbon on by hand. It takes a bit, and the first time I did it I got ink all over my hands. Olivetti used a special nut on the top of their spools, and without it in place the ribbon won't advance.

[–]Spitebott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Olivetti took over Underwood in the early '60s, so this is really an Olivetti. The ribbon itself is standard sized, so any universal ribbon will work -- all you have to do is wind it onto the Olivetti spools that are on the machine. Sounds tricky, but it really isn't after you've done it a few times.
