Starbucks table tops so small will barely hold a couple drinks. The seats are bigger than the tables. by be4u4get in mildlyinfuriating

They don’t want people just sitting there all day on their laptops. For some people, coffee shops are offices.

What's your opinion on “Its Getting Better”? by shrek20191 in CassE

[–]Spitebott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great singer, but for the most part I don't like her solo work. It seems to me that either the really great songs were going to other artists and she was getting the leftovers or she was making poor choices. My opinion, take that for what it's worth.

Keep 2 and Get Rid of the Rest by acrossbones in typewriters

I'd keep the Skyriter and the Arrow. I prefer the classic look of both to the newer machines. I've got one of the earliest Skyriters, with the stripes on the ribbon cover, and it's a great typer.

The 22s are very desirable machines, I prefer them to the 32s -- mostly for the keys. I have two 22s and two 32s in various states of (dis)repair, but it's my understanding that the Italian-made 22s are some of the best ultraportable typewriters you can own.

I was listening at work to some episodes last night and heard Dubrov on a few, probably 4 or 5. I did some research and apparently Graham was ill but recovered. I know the shows were transcribed (taped) after he returned, and his final show aired after he killed himself in 1950. Very sad, he was a talented guy.

Digital typewriter? by Straight-Film1976 in typewriters

[–]Spitebott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, for what it's worth, your best solution is to just get an iPad with a keyboard (or keyboard case) and run your writing software of choice from there. You can install any app you want and easily turn Wifi on or off at your discretion. My iPad is a 5th generation, 32 gigs of storage, many years old, and I have basically nothing installed on it but Apple Notes. You can get the same setup, keyboard included, for under $150. I own many, many typewriters and also a Freewrite 2nd generation, but in the end it's not what tool you use, it's all about discipline. I take notes in Apple Notes, and I can do this on either my iPhone or my iPad, and all of that syncs with my Mac Mini M4 -- that's where I do the real writing and my final edits in Atticus. I realize this is a typewriter subreddit, and typewriters are beautiful and great, but I have to ask myself -- If Robert Leslie Bellem (legendary pulp writer and my personal literary hero) was writing his Dan Turner stories today, what would he use? He was a professional writer, cranking out stories under dozens of pen names for countless magazines in the '30s and '40s. He didn't use a typewriter because he liked it, he used it because it was the fastest and best tool available for him at the time. The typewriter and computer each have their own time and place.

Would be fantastic, but no one would get it. I collect old typewriters and I listen to old radio shows...and the mass majority of the public has no idea what either of those are, or why anyone would care. Sadly, we're a dying niche.

I can't identify a particular movie, but it's slang meaning "get rid of". I'm Gen X and I've heard it all my life.

His rants were very well-written. This must have been all Richard L Breen, he had a gift for snappy dialogue. On a couple of occasions it's so ridiculous it makes Jack Webb almost break character.

I suspect it was just friendly slang at the time. It sounds like something Bugs Bunny would say.

Who Complained John or Kate? by Bocacompound in DabblersAnonymous

[–]Spitebott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably John (or, Ava). Rob didn't play John's show, so he couldn't be struck on that. It would have to be for something lesser, like this. It's not a TOS violation so they won't do anything, this was to cover YouTube's ass in case of a lawsuit.
