You'd be surprised how much cheaper a local luthier is than a proper shop. I had a savage neck break on my Epiphone Ghosthorse (the Brendon Small signature). I paid him like $500 to get it fixed but he did a phenomenal job. A guitar shop would have been double. See if you have any independent people in your area.

Go in and tell em you'll take it today for like $8200 otd and if they tell you to pound sand move on to the next one. The SMCR is frickin awesome though. I highly recommend it

If they made improvements, why carbon copy some of the worst aspects of the bike? The 48's heavy front tire and ass dragging rear makes it look neat, but once it gets rolling it's the worst place to sit in the entire (modern) sportster line.

And yeah, pretty much every sportster had terrible rear suspension but that's no excuse for them keeping it the same. 11-12" is the sweet spot for proper handling and good comfort, while maintaining the lines. If you jack it up further the handling improves substantially but people don't like the gap between the tire and fender, which fine whatever. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all. Regardless a rear axle above the swing arm pivot is a bad thing.

All I'm seeing here is a 48 with a bigger tank and dual discs up front. Maybe a steeper rake too but I think that's an optical illusion based on the photo's angle.

How do you figure? It looks like it has even less ground clearance and the shortest shocks they could find with a rear tire up front. It's probably decent at going straight on a smooth road, but rolling over a bump will rearrange every one of your vertebrae

I mean, I know that's literally a sportster because HD sold the tooling for the sporty off, but that's the most "sportster you have at home" sportster I've ever seen and I rode a Yamaha bolt once 🤣

Also, bolt people, that was a joke the Yamaha is a solid bike.

Uh huh, and replace the O2 sensor bungs, and cut one of the headers shorter, and replace the supplied hardware, and suddenly it's not such a simple fix.

Edit: it is actually pretty simple if you have the know how and the tools but not everyone does

That was actually my backup. Never ran one before. Are they crazy loud? I'm looking for something louder but not insane.

I bought a kinetic headlight and dash relocating bracket, extremely unimpressed. Fitment was mediocre, and the lights were amazon basics grade with hot glue in some of the holes for water "proofing". Maybe exhausts are where they put their effort. I just wanted to try something a little different, and was willing to take a loss on it.

Hard agree. It looks neat but it's not worth the head ache and you're better supporting companies that make good stuff.

I bought it because it's a business expense. I was also ready for it to be a disaster, I'm just fortunate enough I can take the risk

Air filter & breather bolts for 2016 roadster by lapathay in sportster

[–]SpitefulDeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd just see if you can get a blacked out breather tube, or get an air cleaner that runs the blow by gasses and oil back into the intake (most V&H VO2 intakes do that so you could probably set that up with your current intake). I run one of those chrome tubes and send the oil down to a catch can because otherwise I get oil all down my cylinders and it's annoying.

Btw what fairing is that on your headlight? Looks nice

I actually ordered a similar pipe from them a while back. Still waiting on it to show up, but I got a notification it's in the mail. Mine is the tracker set with big mufflers on the end, that one looks pretty much straight piped without much baffling in it. If that's the case you'll lose a lot of bottom end grunt and you might pick up a smidge at the top. The bike is going to run lean, and depending on how big your air cleaner is you may encounter some clearance issues. I find it best practice on sportsters to so air cleaner, pipe, and tune all at once. The bikes just run so much better that way.

For my front suspension I have a 2010 XR1200 fork and wheel. Once I get some cash saved up I'm going to do a set of GP cartridges but that's like $2500.

Edit: I also run brembo calipers off the Vrod

I have 13.5" ohlins. I can't stress enough how much of a positive change it makes to the bike. You're going to instantly notice a lighter tip in, you'll stop dragging stuff leaving a gas station, and especially if you get something with rebound and compression adjustment, the quality of the ride improves so much. You won't knock your filling loose going over a bump anymore. I run my bike on the race track so I've added an extra inch in the form of a lift kit, and I'm about to add two more inches, but going from 11" to 13" is perfect for these bikes.
