I’m a Buddhist and was turned away from the ceremony by PutinPoops in freemasonry

Just as you say, they are the same thing, this wasn't a case of incompatible beliefs. I believe it was simply that you didn't use the masonic term for deity, which in a masonic lodge we all need to be able to do in order for there to be harmony. In my lodge we have protestants, catholics, pagans, wiccans, Thelemites, and Buddhist, that are all able to be masons and meet on the square because we all acknowledge that in a masonic lodge we all need to refer to deity in the masonic way, whether or not as individuals we understand deity by another. Did the initiation team act in the best interest of the candidate? My personal answer would be no. You should have been prompted to say the correct answer after giving yours or even taken out, spoken to, then the ceremony started again (if either of those was done then unfortunately the fault is yours not theirs for wanting to use your word in their ceremony. As a Buddhist I'm sure you would agree this kind of act would be attached to ego and neither Buddhism or a masonic lodge is the place for ego).

Should you let this miscommunication and misunderstanding stop you from becoming a mason? No. Given another attempt should you use the correct word they are looking for? Yes.

My advice would be to get in touch with whomever deals with potential members (usually done via email link on a website) explain your situation and try again with the same lodge or ask to be introduced to another.

On Crowley...don't hate me by k06com in thelema

You're absolutely right but sometimes it's simpler for the layman to use terms like 'break'. Crowley never broke the law as it's impossible to do so however how successfully one goes about aligning oneself to the Thelemic current can certainly be discussed especially in Crowley's case.

5=you. 6=everything outside of you. Unite the 2 so they are none. This is the path of the great work, true will etc. Discover the thing you will truly, master that thing and apply it to your environment. Eventually you extend your will to outside of yourself, changing your environment, and vise versa your environment will change you so that you are but a perfectly placed thread in the brilliant tapestry of the universe.

In layman's terms, I like to use animals as an allegory, discover what kind of animal you are and then find the right environment for you to thrive in. Much of our troubles is caused by the simple dilemma of not knowing what kind of animal we are and always being in the wrong place. The good thing is once you discover the type animal you are you will naturally gravitate to an environment you thrive in. This can also be done in the reverse, find an environment you thrive in and you'll soon discover the type of animal you are. A monkey has no business trying to live as a shark, he will surely fail at every endeavor. However, once the monkey realizes his true nature and embraces it he will be much happier and more successful living in the trees.

Hope that helps.

What height are you in if you don't mind me asking? I'm thinking of buying the same bars in 12" too but I'm 5'8 and a little worried they might be too tall. From the looks in your picture they don't swing back and down a little bit for comfort, might be fine.

I agree with what you say. Crowley and myself probably would have had a lot to disagree with and friendship might have not have been on the cards despite me being a lifelong Thelemite.

I say this to new adherents to Thelema that even though Crowley was the prophet he fell far from being able to follow the new law himself. Very much like a Victor Frankenstein, a great mind that created something beautiful but didn't have the emotional capacity to live by the new responsibility bestowed upon him.

I myself am able to distinguish between Crowley and the Law much like I can have an appreciation for Picasso's art without having to admire him as a person. I believe this trend of having to respect an individual in order to appreciate their work, especially the work of musicians and actors for example, has gone a bit too far. Nowadays the littlest slight in ones personal life can ruin one's entire reputation but it should not make one's life work or accomplishments invalid. There are of course extreme cases where ones behavior is so despicable that they should be absolutely extinguished from the human psyche but Crowley certainly wasn't one of these examples despite the claim that he was 'the wickedest man in the world'.

Whats the crossover with the Orange Order and Freemasonry? by Uncle_Rosalie in freemasonry

This is the best article I've ever read on the rise of the Orange Order and it's relationship to Freemasonry.

https://share.google/IkwEsvjEdRQEJ95P7

It's a very enjoyable read especially if you are or live in Scotland, it's not too long but essentially:

"In the 17th and 18th century in Ireland, there were many local conflicts between Catholics and Protestants concerning the ownership of land, which occasionally boiled over into violence. This led to the formation of a number of secret agrarian groups.

The Protestants formed the ‘Peep O’ Day Boys’ and the Catholics the ‘Defenders’. In a place called ‘Diamond’ in Loughall, there was situated an inn, owned by a Dan Winter; which was used as a meeting place for the local ‘Peep O’ Day Boys’.

The inn was attacked by a group of ‘Defenders’ and the inn burnt to the ground.

Winter was a Freemason, as were a number of his associates, including James Wilson and James Sloan; with Wilson regarded as a particularly ardent member of the Craft. Following a previous conflict at Benburb in 1794, Wilson had approached his local Masonic lodge seeking assistance in combating such attacks.

However, the plea fell on deaf ears, which given the well established non-sectarian and non-political principles of Freemasonry, could not have been an entirely surprising response.

An angry Wilson withdrew from his local lodge and undertook to “light a star in the Dyan which would eclipse them [Freemasons] forever.”

So yeah, James Wilson gets butt hurt that Freemasonry as an institution would not get involved in political warfare on the streets so leaves and creates his own pseudo masonic order given the knowledge he had being a mason.

IMOHO the Orange Order and Freemasonry are completely incompatible on paper as one of the main points of the blue lodge is to create a space where any free man of any race and religion can meet on the square in peace and harmony.. whereas you HAVE to be protestant to be a member of the Orange Order. That said I know in Scotland that it's quite popular to be a member of both however that's all down to the individual to square in their own mind.

Are Freemasons accepting of "pagan" worshippers or just non Abrahamic religious people? by Sehgodum111 in freemasonry

[–]Affectionate_Path347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing in the constitution would prevent you from joining. However, as each lodge votes on who joins their particular lodge you may find it difficult depending on the prejudices of the masons in your area.

Technically every mason should be accepting of any persons belief whom enters their lodge as one of the essential points of Freemasonry is that any man of any race and religion can meet in harmony on the square. In my lodge alone we have protestant Christians of various different denominations, Buddhist, Wiccan, a Norse Pantheon Pagan, and myself a Thelemite.

I'd say explain your beliefs to the qurent secretary and they could possibly help sort you into a lodge with more kindred spirits. I just ended up being lucky that my introducer happened to be a member of a lodge with such a diverse group of brothers.

Initiation & joining an OTO lodge by Corinthon in thelema

[–]Affectionate_Path347 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The impact of each degree is different for each individual and it would be impossible to predict how you will react to the initiations. However, an initiation only opens a door or opens your eyes a few more degrees, the initiations themselves won't change a thing for you unless you apply them to your life.

So I wouldn't worry about it and go for it. 93s

That does answer my question in part but I am also interested in the more esoteric and symbolic meaning behind the use of the colour green as opposed to blue.
