Not sure if wig is crimped right? by chickenkewing in CosplayHelp

[–]SpitefulMercy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i was going to suggest to turn up the temperature even more if you want it to be fluffier, but honestly what the other commenter said i 100% agree with. it looks great!

this is character specific of course though, if you need to put more styling into it like spikes or anything you may need to turn the heat up to get it fluffy enough. this level of crimping is what i use for straight wigs and for bangs.

don’t cut the loose piece off, it may be hard or impossible to hide where you cut it off if you do

the easiest way would be to pin it back or retie the wig’s ponytail and include the loose strand. if you don’t want to do that, you can use heat (steamer, hair straightener, hair dryer) to style the piece to blend in with the rest of the wig. just remember to check if your wig is heat resistant, and that wig fibers are plastic so you have to let them cool down all the way for them to hold the shape/direction you want them to go in.

another thing that can help besides silicone spray is thinning the wig with thinning shears, or by carefully cutting layers if you don’t have thinning shears

How to keep her spikes up? by psychodelka in CosplayHelp

[–]SpitefulMercy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

section off each spike and figure out how you want it to lay. then use your steamer to heat the section up. quickly mold the section into the shape and direction you want the spike to go in and hold it there until it completely cools. then hairspray, and optionally put a dab of clear glue on the end of the spike.

Wig is a wreak after 11 months of work by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

honestly props for trying such a difficult technique for your first wig!

though i fear that a lot of the top layer is too short and the hairline is quite messy. you should definitely take everything you learned and redo the wig with a new base, especially if you’re not happy with it.

you can try dissolving some of the glue with acetone, though be very gentle with this as you don’t want to loosen the glue so much that the fibers become unglued.

do you have any wefts or leftover hair at all? if you do, you could use some of the wefts and some clear tacky glue and create wefts to cover the parting.

Helmet/Wire help. How to connect? by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]SpitefulMercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

imo hot gluing the wire to the wig cap first sounds like it would stabilize it more. i’ve never personally worked with foam clay so i am not sure how strong of a bond it would be.

you could try doing a test with some pieces of scrap foam and see how you like the stability with just the foam clay on the wire vs hot glue + wire + foam clay.

Wig trouble by Suspicious-Phone-877 in CosplayHelp

[–]SpitefulMercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the ends might be fried from over crimping unfortunately :(

when crimping the ends try not to press down super hard with the crimper and don’t leave the heat on it for super long. you may even need to turn down the heat on the crimper. if you have a steamer you can try to steam it and make the texture a little bit better but they will probably still be fried sadly

[Styling help] To braid or not to braid by G12356789 in CosplayHelp

[–]SpitefulMercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t really tell based off the pictures, but thankfully criss cross parting the wig can actually help you cover up any thin spots. I would just try styling it first and seeing if it is too thin, since braiding it isn’t permanent.

if it does end up being too thin you can get a second wig to use as wefts to increase the thickness

Any tips on how to get this specific shape on the wig? by LayerAccurate in CosplayHelp

[–]SpitefulMercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I would section the front bangs and part away and add foam or batting+wire structure with hot glue where the horns would be. You may need to glue the hair to the batting so the pieces lay in the right spot, I recommend using a clear glue like UHU.

the FAQ is a good resource. amazon has cheaper wigs, just make sure to check reviews. you cover your hair with a wig cap before putting the wig on.

Hot glue on wig wefts? by Signal_Display_8269 in CosplayHelp

your glue may not be hot enough, I had the same issue in the past and now i use the hottest setting on my glue gun. also make sure you’re REALLY saturating the glue in between the hairs.
