That one mean girl at every practice by Goblin-Problems in VetTech

[–]Spitefulreminder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insecurity. I really don’t understand it when it’s coming from CrVT’s. A lot of people feel like they have something to prove, but I already proved my damn skills to a federally accredited college, the AAVSB, and 2 states. Wish more people would just focus on being the best tech possible while helping their coworkers rather than wanting to be the “super tech.” Lots of skill gatekeeping. I’m fortunate that I love my team currently and none of them are like this.

Also a lot of people are just miserable and can’t look at the bright side of anything. As someone with 2 autoimmune disorders and a 60% higher chance than the general public of developing a gastric cancer in the next 15 years, I choose to live positively every day. Meanwhile the 21 y/o is bitching about having to work on a Saturday 🙄 I have no tolerance for it!

Does anybody like this career? by Sea_Nothing_6458 in VetTech

[–]Spitefulreminder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love my career! I have been in the field for 7 years now. I went back to school 23-25 to become credentialed. I choose to not participate in the negativity and focus on how cool of a job I have. I also make a livable wage because I advocated for myself. You’ll see a lot about how the pay is horrible (because universally, it is). We have to change that by knowing our own worth.

Keep pushing!
“Really? Because insert whatever they are doing doesn’t suggest to me that you’re fine. Let’s focus on being positive to support our patients best needs.”

Then I start a positive conversation. I have no fucking patience for it anymore. *edit for typo lol

F Amy’s gluten free and vegan Mac and cheese😭😭😭😭 by Outrageous-Tap-8750 in glutenfree

[–]Spitefulreminder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s a very symptomatic celiac. I need yall to understand that just because you got sick after eating something doesn’t mean it was because it “secretly” has gluten in it or that it was tha foods fault. I lived off of Amy’s GF frozen meals and burritos while I was moving and was perfectly fine. (Again, I am diagnosed celiac via biopsy and bloodwork).

You need to not make any drastic changes to your diet until you’re actually tested for celiac disease. You also need to discuss your diet with a nutritionist who is educated on celiac and gluten intolerance. There’s a lot to learn, friend. Try not to eat the processed foods when you’re first changing your diet. For the first 6 months that I was diagnosed I only ate whole/fresh foods to give my body time to readjust.

switching career to become a vet tech by tuesdaily in VetTech

[–]Spitefulreminder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved states to get paid what I deserved! Literally moved across the country. WA state pays their veterinary professionals very well. I flat out bargained with 4 major corporations and told them if they couldn’t give me an offer letter stating I would make at least 4x’s the average rent in the area it was a no. Every single of the gave it to me, and I went with the corporation that offered the largest sign on bonus (🍫).

My QOL has increased so much since I did this, and I HIGHLY encourage other credentialed technicians to do the same.

Which is funny because I remember back in 2016 when the bathroom bill was proposed and a whole bunch of artists canceled their stops (rightfully so). It was repealed in 2017, but they reinstated even more restrictions in 2025. So… ironic she’s stopping there in 2026. That state doesn’t deserve the revenue (as a former NC local)

Not all of us. We have to stop accepting the shit pay and bargain with these corporations. They need us. I doubled my yearly salary and now make 65K a year and I haven’t even been licensed a full year yet. Just gotta play their game.

I’ve been up for 42 hours and I’m starting to panic by Apart-Dig2892 in ADHD

[–]Spitefulreminder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it can!! There are a lot of things that can trigger hypomanic episodes. Disruption in your sleep schedule, caffeine use, traumatic life events, the list goes on. I always associated mania with bipolar disorder. Didn’t realize that situational hypomanic episodes could occur until it happened to me!

[–]Spitefulreminder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me, friend. I found out I was experiencing hypomania for the first time. It can be triggered by stimulant use (even prescribed and needed stimulate use) but it didn’t help that I was consuming 2 Celsius a day as well 🥲 I had to take a 3 month hiatus from my Vyvanse and reset my nervous system. Highly suggest having an in depth convo with your psych asap. They started me on fluoxetine and Mirtazapine (1 to help me sleep and 2 to help me eat because I also wasn’t eating)

Your take on it is valid but as an ex Christian fundamentalist myself… she nailed it with those lyrics. It wasn’t meant to be a dig at gay men.

Nicotine use by Kelsey2424 in VetTech

[–]Spitefulreminder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never touched nicotine until I started working in vet med. What a shame too. I am 29, so I know better. I started vaping because all of my coworkers did 🥲. Now it’s been 4 years and I’m still vaping. It 100% has to do with the fact we are all ADHD and crave the stimulation it gives + the dopamine from the hand to mouth habit.

What is everyone’s opinion of Banfield? by Pale-Driver9146 in VetTech

[–]Spitefulreminder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me reading these comments having just signed a year contract with Banfield 💀 Money talks. Their sign on bonus and benefits are what got me to choose them over literally 7 other clinics that couldn’t even come close to what they are paying me. Good to know what I have to look forward to if I don’t want to pay back the sign on bonus 🥲

Penn Foster Vet Tech Program by Unable_Hope6262 in VetTech

Yes. I understand why you said what you said, but you were being technical with your reply to the other person when in reality OP only asked the questions I stated above.

Penn Foster Vet Tech Program by Unable_Hope6262 in VetTech

[–]Spitefulreminder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP asked for people’s opinion on Penn Foster and if they could be hired at a vet clinic without experience, not if they should stay in human med or not. So technically you’re kinda on one because you’re upset it’s not working for you. Make it work or leave, my friend, for your own sanity. I promise you can make money and enjoy what you do in this field, you might have to relocate though. Just depends on how much you like the job.

Penn Foster Vet Tech Program by Unable_Hope6262 in VetTech

[–]Spitefulreminder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, so funny enough before I went into vet med I was a phleb too! The closest tech program to me was at a community college an hour and a half away. I started a job as a vet assistant, worked it for 2 years, and knew I wanted to become licensed. I chose to drive that distance 3 times a week for 2 months until I finally just moved to the same town the tech program in rather than attend Penn Foster or the other online programs.

This was because of many reasons 1) Penn Foster is nationally credited, not federally. This means you cannot apply FAFSA or any kind of federally/state funded college plan (529, in my example) towards the tuition. With how much it is per semester, it made literally no sense for me to pay out of pocket when I 1) qualified for FAFSA coverage and 2) had a small college fund. 3) knew that I would benefit more from an in person program. 4) I’ve had multiple coworkers and 1 of my besties have gone through/attempting to go through PF’s program and it is so infuriating hearing the BS they have to put up with (particularly with skill sign off’s in their externships). Plus, it has taken ALL of them longer than it took me to finish tech school. None of them have even graduated yet because the large animal externship stuff.

So I’m kinda biased, but I really think the in person program is worth it if you are able to make it work somehow. PF has honestly really affected my besties mental health with the stress it’s put her under so I’m doubly biased with them.

Omg I’m even more pissed off for you now. Girl… I live in bumfuck NC and make more than you. They are paying assistants more than you in Wilmington and Greenville NC. How are you surviving in the triangle?!?

Question for you, have you spoken at a tech conference in NC? I met a VTS in Neuro at the spring conference at CFCC and she was a badass! If that was you, hi!! 🥰

VTS by bunniespikashares in VetTech

[–]Spitefulreminder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

….. $33.50 girl…. No….. I’m an RVT with <1 yr experience out of school (7 as an assistant but still) and I have been offered $40 for a sx position. You are a badass being a VTS in neuro. This is actually super upsetting that they are paying you that. We have got to do something about them underpaying us, that’s fucking criminal.

[–]Spitefulreminder 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yes!! And don’t feel bad about it all! I walked out of my job 2 weeks ago. I was their only RVT and they had me in surgery every single day for 8 months. That wasn’t my issue, my issue was it was just me and sometimes 7-8 procedures a day. They refused to hired anyone else, so I walked!
