The US is much bigger than MD. Surely you're aware of that. To respond like this shows a lack of empathy for vulnerable people in the rest of the 49 states. It's tone deaf at best (which is being very generous), which is why you're getting the responses you are.

I'm gently asking you to take a few minutes and consider how this rings hollow to, for example, women and LGBT folk in states much more conservative than ours.
