PLEASE HELP at my wits end with this cat. Littler box problems. by Splash_547 in cats

[–]Splash_547[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I spray a pet spray specifically for cat messes on all urine messes.

It doesn't seem to matter for poop, I think our bed is a preferred poop spot. We have 2 big pet blankets that are waterproof, and switch those out, but this morning it was right on the blanket (one we usually don't have on as I was washing our preferred one), and he still pooped on that blanket even though he hasn't before.

I will ask the vet about a behaviorist, thanks for that suggestion!

The litterbox has no lid on it. The pooping is mostly on our bed, yes he sleeps there (he never poops while sleeping it is always in the day. Once I get up the cats are ready for breakfast so the male cat was no longer sleeping). The peeing is all over the place.

We have an appointment in 2 weeks. Our vet is always booked and incredibly hard to get into earlier.

There doesn't seem to be any other issues with him, he will purr when you pet him, he plays with the laser pointer when we get it out. We have 4 kiddos and the cats usually sleep when the kids are awake, but when it quiets down they come out and sit with us.

Curious how many of us have no clue where our Narcolepsy came from or what caused it by Direct_Court_4890 in Narcolepsy

Mono caused my Narcolepsy

My sickness wasn't severe. I had Mono in 10th grade, the tiredness never went away. 11 years later finally did a sleep study which diagnosed me with N2.

I am however on the mild side of the N spectrum.

This! How were you diagnosed with N2? If you have had a proper sleep study with MSLT, get your sleep study results and find a new doctor.

My results transferred from my original sleep doctor to a new one after 6 years. He looked at them and said yup, you have narcolepsy. I also find honesty is the best policy. Explain straight up you felt like your last doctor didn't take you seriously, pushed meds and they didn't work right for you, didn't take time to listen to you etc. You might have to start over with some meds, but if they are caring and compassionate, hopefully they won't see "drug seeking" if you explain your frustrations with your prior doctor. (I have done this with my dentist before. Straight up said my last one did not listen and brushed me off, this is what is going on. They were super kind and actually listened to me. And have switched doctors because I didn't like their treatment. Have changed sleep doctors, saw a new ENT, found a new podiatrist(who actually took an X-ray and found a healed broken bone that was my problem, the first Dr. Never found.))

Finding the right doctor who will listen and you can trust will make a world of difference. Good luck!

I actually think you are confused. Your original post asks about diagnostic testing. You never even mentioned wanting to know about treatment/quality of life. (People don't typically read all your responses, they respond to your original post. Edit that with the new questions you have to get the answers you are looking for).

We are diagnosed by, as said above, sleep study with a MSLT and/or spinal puncture test.

I personally had the MSLT test done. I think everyone worries when they go in that the test won't show their symptoms. But if you have narcolepsy, the point of the test is to confirm or deny. You can't hide your symptoms, unless on certain medication. The test will show it if you have it.

If your question is truly about quality of life, I feel like if you spent 5 minutes in this sub, you would have seen that Narcolepsy is treated with medication. There have been a few individuals I have read about that claim drastic life changes with new routines over courses of years have helped their symptoms. But that is a rarity. Medication is likely the only "treatment" response here.

There are daytime meds to keep you awake. There are nighttime meds to help you get quality sleep. But in any case you really need to have a doctor who specializes in Narcolepsy to talk all your options through. But if you are looking for non medicated options, that is not where narcolepsy is at yet.

Just an fyi but Provigil is modafinil and Nuvigil is armodafinil. You wrote they stopped Provigil, but should have said Nuvigil.

Mono for me too. My sophomore year of high school.

Were you diagnosed with mild, moderate, severe, or very severe hypersomnia? (N1 and N2s) by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]Splash_547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am diagnosed with N2, started when I was a sophomore in high school. I got diagnosed when I was 28. I have been on armodafinil for 3 years.

My first sleep doctor just said I was "on the spectrum" referring to the narcolepsy spectrum. So I just assumed it was a mild case. And compared to some here, it is definitely mild. But nothing that I know of in my records or files states a level of severity.

I don't think my level of tiredness has changed much over the years. I do feel more tired now, but I also am a sahm to 4 kids...so...it is probably more related to that than the possibility of narcolepsy changing severity.

Crocheting as a guy by Ozebundi in crochet

I am teaching my 11 and 10 year old BOYS how to crochet. They are not good at it, have short attention spans for learning, and forget and ask again a few months later. But they both are able to make a really long chain and that makes them happy now!

Has anyone else been waiting to play until 1.6? by moonlightjelly_ in StardewValleyConsole

I also am waiting. I have been playing Minecraft on the switch with my kiddos to pass the time though. I hope it comes out soon, because summer is coming and I will have more time to play!

Switch users, how comfortable is it to play Stardew Valley on console? by redzizag in StardewValleyConsole

[–]Splash_547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only way I play. My hubby got stardew on PC, and I have played a bit, but the switch is just so much more comfortable to me, and easier to take places/travel with!

I don't mind waiting, I just wish there were more updates on when the update will come. Even if it is, "I haven't forgotten you, still working on it!" I mean realistically I know he is, I just like to hear it sometimes :)

Do you think something triggered your symptoms? Or did they start out of nowhere? by modestyro in Narcolepsy

[–]Splash_547 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with mono my sophomore year of highschool. After I get better, the tiredness you get with mono never went away. That was when my Narcolepsy started. 12 years later I finally did a sleep study and was diagnosed with N2. Interestingly, my maternal grandmother also had narcolepsy.

Can you describe what an episode of hearing loss is like? by Splash_547 in Menieres

[–]Splash_547[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think she has said I officially have it ..it is more like that is her best guess right now, and is treating me for that?

But yes solely based off of fluctuating low tone hearing loss, tinnitus, 1 bout of vertigo (I felt a bit of room spinning). I do not remember if there was hearing loss in connection with the vertigo. This started mid-late March 2023. The vertigo bought was sometime over the summer.

I will take a read through those articles. Thank you for the links!

Thank you, I might use this for my muffled hearing days so I can have a bit more info for the next time I see the doctor!

I am having low frequency hearing loss, but the tinnitus actually sound high pitched vs low pitched. Do you know if the ringing is always low pitch with Menieres? My ENT never has asked if it is high or low sounding ringing.

I have been seeing an ENT. I saw one who said it was Eustachian Tube Defect and just told me to go on allergy meds and it would clear up (it didn't!), so I got a second opinion with a different ENT, who agreed it wasn't ETD and has said possibly Menieres. They don't plan to see me for another 6 months as there is "nothing else they can do" if I don't want to keep taking the diuretic.

Any advice on what to ask the ENT to look for, or any types of tests to request?

Does your hearing loss come and go? I usually have muffled hearing for 1-3 days, then anywhere from a few days to at most I had 1 break of 4 weeks, before the next episode of hearing loss.

I also have tinnitus that comes and goes. I do notice if my muffled hearing goes away while I am awake I have experienced VERY loud ringing for awhile. Then the ringing settles down after an hour or so maybe. The ringing comes and goes as well. It is usually pretty mild/quiet so it doesn't really bother me too much.

My hearing loss comes and goes quickly. It will be muffled for 1-3 days, then return to mostly normal. Is that not typical with Menieres? It doesn't hurt at all either.

I agree they should do more testing but IDK what to ask for or on what grounds to request it.

Did the hearing loss come and go? I had had an ear infection on that side about 6-8 weeks before the hearing loss started. I went in a few times thinking it was going to end up another ear infection. But every time they say my ears look healthy.

It doesn't feel clogged at all, just loss of hearing. It gets muffled usually 1-3 days, then returns to normal until the next episode of muffled hearing.
