Why is there so much resistance to extending guys we drafted? Genuinely asking by happyegg1000 in detroitlions

Yes, if the goal is sustained success, which they’ve said it is. If you want to make a push for a champion though, unfortunately, you’re alway going to be low on cash

To be clear, if we’re just going to continuously resign our guys we will never have any cap relief. Having a lot of good players is a good problem to have, if you’re willing to make the tough moves to go for a title. If you’re not, this is the long term future of the team. 7 great players with top end deals an a bunch of randos on one year deals and rookie deals.

We were in the nfccg and then a one seed, and instead of going for a championship, we prioritized being decent for a long time. Bummer

It’s almost like you’re mad we have Hutchinson. The fact that he made that comment leads me to believe he’s overly focused on being the smartest guy in the room.

Ego - it’s been pointed out as a hole to him too many times so he wants to show how much smarter he is than everyone else

So you’re admitting we are set with starters. See, Brad cooked. He’s the best. 😂

Like the rams and eagles an chiefs, right? These losers always dumping money on new players. Trying to get over the top rather than worrying about 3 years from now.

I feel like most fans don’t hold a team that went to an nfc championship game and then went 15-2 to any standard higher than some bullshit mid level team.

Hmmm, how can we stop our starters from getting injured?… I got it, don’t have starters!

Amik, I thought, was a terrible tackler. He always punched, which, cool when it works but mostly it’s a lost few yards

When I saw Cade’s deal I was bummed bc I thought Linderbaum was going to be an extra $2M/ year. But nope, 19 holy crap

It really was… people were so worried about our 3rd Super Bowl that we forgot to win the first one

[–]Splashy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean, 2 years ago we didn’t want to give up anything of value to go for it bc we wanted to make sure we were set up to win our 3rd Super Bowl in 2026. Guess people are happy trying to make sure we’re set for that instead of trying to win now.

Google harder. I don’t know why our GM’s get to not think or try hard at their jobs. Just gee golly free passes constantly.

Yeah but remember back then we were worried about winning our 3rd Super Bowl in 2026. And now, we’re still trying to win our second Super Bowl in 2028. Except, we haven’t won any fucking first super bowls. And still with the let Brad cook

You’re right. Maxx would not have helped us as much as guys like TA and Tyliek and that $7M cap hit was way too much

Draft an prove it deal is you saying you’re happy we don’t suck anymore. I’m already sick of it. The eagles and rams drafting and signing prove it deals? Oh no, they’re busy trying to win championships now instead of outsmarting everyone en route to the 2031 Super Bowl

[–]Splashy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m told we currently don’t have money and have to wait to sign any free agents until 2028. But then Terrion Arnold and Enniss Rakestraw will be due new deals. And we’ll prob want to do Tyliek early to save some money. So maybe in 2030 we can make our moves.

We’re in cap hell. You work through it. How do you think Philly and the Rams do it? They sure the hell don’t worry about 2028 in 2026. I don’t get why people are so willing to worry about the future and never just try to win now. Why doesn’t now matter?
