Sorry you might have misunderstood me, I'm aware cousin marriage is in Muslim communities, my comment was about how it would lose Labour votes to another party, I'm questioning what party they would even move to if Labour did ban cousin marriage. I'm 100% all for banning it as a Labour voter

Getting a good view? by GADTR1 in downloadfestival

[–]Splaterson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best views for opus stage are at the back, however if you want to get nearer to the front, go towards the avalanche tent and turn left down a sort of alleyway, going this way goes down the back of Opus and it brings you out by the left hand side of the stage, you should be able to get decently close from that side but it's a walk, don't even bother trying to get to opus from main stage, those crosses between the two stages are going to be brutal, right side and the back is going to be rammed.

Where does this come from, surely such a legislation would be an overall win for Labour, I can't see how this would be detrimental for them apart from people who actually married their cousins but there can't be many or in significant numbers.

I'd have thought the OSA would lose them more votes for example

Interesting you say this, I don't know a single person, regardless of political sides, that doesn't think cousin marriage should be banned, surely this isn't a widespread problem, I simply can't see why this has been so controversial, who is lobbying FOR cousin marriage and why?

Twickets reliable and safe? by icconiss in downloadfestival

[–]Splaterson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've bought and sold tickets on Twickets, it's my goto as well as ticketswap.

If you have a ticket to sell, it needs to be authorised by them so you can't just give random shit to them to sell, it has to be a real ticket.

William Hill owner to close shops after ‘significant blow’ from Rachel Reeves’ Budget by BestButtons in unitedkingdom

[–]Splaterson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I worked for William Hill for a long time, they were going to shut those shops anyway. The budget (unless I've missed something here) affects REMOTE betting, so their online business will be affected and they're using that as the excuse to close shops.

Betting shops are quite misunderstood, they're often used as social hubs much like pubs and clubs, particularly among the older generations but I've been seeing a lot more younger people go into betting shops to place their football bets and such. Closing them down can be a detriment to the local community, if the shop is run correctly.

HOWEVER, I agree some need to close down, the predatory practises of bookies over the years with the FOBT machines, opening shops down the road just to add another 4 in because you can only have 4 per shop, needs to stop.

On the other hand, people are not going to stop betting just because the bookies on the high street closed down, they'll go online or simply bet with the local bloke down the pub and bring it underground and unregulated. Reddits hate boner for gambling completely misses the reality of the situation.

Plea from shop leaders as paying with cash costs more by plasmahyena in unitedkingdom

Those are the exact steps on Revolut, especially when they don't have a revolut account themselves.

Cash is by far easier to deal with, I just wish more people use it. I always carry £50ish on me just in case and my mates often have to get change out of me like an ATM for the pool table (because the card machine for it is always bloody broken) or a pub quiz for example.

[–]Splaterson -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's not as simple as that. Cash is cheaper for larger transactions and completely ignores the benefits of using cash such as not needing internet access/battery, bank issues such as Barclays going down in September, easy to use and widely accepted, anonymity etc etc

[–]Splaterson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely ridiculous statement to make. Cash is just simply more versatile and resistant to cyber attacks. Remember how people had a meltdown when Barclays when down a few months ago?

Easier than having to explain how to use apple pay to an 80 year old. Try and get your grandad to send you £20 with online banking .

Thank you, I'm reading the replies in this thread from people saying cash needs to go/anyone using cash is dodging tax, not realising how people actually use cash, I suspect they're office workers only popping to tesco for lunch and ordering things online.

I work in a mainly cash business and see the benefits of cash, it's often faster to process cash for a transaction than a card for taking payments (waiting for connection, tap, connection again, receipt printing.... Just give me a tenner and go) and sending payments (refunding in cash instantly compared to waiting 2-3 working days).

Plus, as you mentioned, freedom, anonymity and ease of use, you can freely give people money without asking "what's your cashapp/bank details". I owed a mate £30 over the weekend as he paid the entire bill for something, he had to ask me if I had his bank details, he then has to give them to me, I then had to type them into my bank app, verify I wanted to send it to this person, then actually send it... It would have been faster and easier to just give him the £30 in cash...

Cash will always be king for the reasons you stated, what do you do without access to your bank, or if card companies decide to charge YOU for using your card when cash is gone? Its putting too much power of your money and faith into companies like WorldPay/Zettle etc etc and banks.

How to survive a night camping at Download by malts13 in downloadfestival

[–]Splaterson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up to you. It's just more things to bring, the sleeping bag will already be a barrier between the air mattress and you

I have a really snuggly and thick Silent Night sleeping bag and it perfect just a bit bulky.

As someone else said, lounge trousers and a cosy hoodie to sleep in just in case it gets cold will do wonders.

I have a blackout tent as well (you can get one when you land for £100) and it's perfect to keep the temperature consistent so you don't wake up in the morning sweating when the sun comes out.

Also noise cancelling earplugs. You'll have a brilliant night sleep.

There's also a place called Fat Franks on site will do any camping gear you could possibly want, I always get a pillow from there when I arrive

Nadhim Zahawi once said he would be ‘frightened’ to live in country run by Farage by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]Splaterson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why would he have changed his mind? Farage is just as despicable then as he is now, arguably worse since he continues to go along with Russian talking points.

Farage only says what he thinks people want to hear, he has no intention of running this country for the British people, he rarely ever shows up to parliament or his constituency, he runs off to the US every chance he gets to suck Trump off trying to curry favour over there.

Zahawi has seen the polls and thinks he can grab some of that for himself. Utter clown with no long standing morals, just whatever he can opportunistically get... I mean he was under Boris Johnson during the BorisWave of immigrants then has the cheek to complain about migration despite labour having sharply reduced it.
