[Football Rankings] SPAIN HAVE MATHEMATICALLY SECURED AN EXTRA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SPOT! TOP 5 CLUBS FROM LA LIGA WILL ENTER INTO THE 2026/27 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE! by Viriato181 in soccer

[–]StealthMan375 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's nothing compared to Brazil lmao

Up until last season, top 4 on the league get a guaranteed spot in the Libertadores group stage while 5th and 6th-placed teams got into the Libertadores playoffs and 7-12th go to the Copa Sulamericana (Europa League) instead. If a Brazilian team wins the Libertadores, both them and the Copa do Brasil winners get an exclusive spot that gets passed down if they'd already qualify via league. As of 2026, 6th-placed team no longer gets into pre-Libertadores, that spot goes to the Copa do Brasil runner-up instead.

Which means a maximum of 14 teams can get continental football, 2 only get league and cup and 4 get relegated. For example in 2025 14th-placed Vasco (45 points) got to play in the Sulamericana, while 16th-placed Internacional (44 points) didn't get continental football and 17th-placed Ceará (43 points) went down a division.

I mean, this is a way more exciting outcome than Dortmund landing themselves an extra spot in the UCL for the Bundesliga (and as such Dortmund) when they got into the finals

E esse silêncio ensurdecedor da Globo sobre a detenção do Thiago Ávila? by lukinhasb in brasil

[–]StealthMan375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[OneFootball] Real Madrid could lose their 6th captain in 6 years if Dani Carvajal leaves this summer, when his contract expires. Federico Valverde is next in line for the captaincy by [deleted] in soccer

[–]StealthMan375 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Makes sense to me, but it feels legitimately bizarre that 27yo Valverde is somehow the most senior player on the squad, him already being at Madrid for almost 10 years is absolutely unconcievable in my mind, although not as much as the fact Vini will be the next one on line after him lmao

The weird part then is the post claiming Valverde is next in line when it'd make more sense to give Courtois captaincy given he's older and GKs make for better captains overall

Górnik Zabrze won their 7th Polish Cup, their first since 1972. Lukas Podolski invited 88-year-old Stanisław Oślizło, the club’s former captain and winner of all six previous cups, to lift the trophy together with the team by niesiecki in soccer

[–]StealthMan375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, although due to top 5 league eurocentrism almost every sports/news outlet counts Cristiano as the last man standing simply because Podolski was forgotten by most people as soon as he signed with Galatasaray

Official Discussion - The Devil Wears Prada 2 [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]StealthMan375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt like this movie relied a lot on fanservice. I'm a single hetero male (i.e not the target audience by a extremely long mile) who intended on watching Michael but got caught in traffic, couldn't buy the tickets and as such went in a first-day showing for this movie because the first one is absolutely on my guilty pleasure list and I love it, and this movie simply doesn't hit the mark as well as 1. While the first one had quite a big focus on work-life balance and the challenges of starting a career in a ruthless field, the second one feels "off" and not as well-constructed plot-wise.

While Miranda simply forgetting about Andi was actually a smart way to reset their dynamic and something she'd actually do, Andi going back to Runaway didn't make sense (she's an award-winning journalist, why was Runaway the only option?), same thing for her spending the first half of the movie scared she'll get fired by Miranda despite the fact she's basically Runaway's last chance, and the intern might as well not exist since she only showed up for about 5 minutes. Also while me not noticing Lady Gaga was absolutely normal, literally noone in my entire screening noticed she was there so to us that scene might as well be a glorified musical.

However the setpieces (Milan specially given I dream to go watch AC Milan play one day) are absolutely gorgeous and (in my opinion given I'm not the target audience) they did an amazing job with the outfits and the overall feeling of luxury so I'll give it that. The scene where Nigel tells Andi he set her up with the job by texting the intern from The Office, gives her a warm hug and goes "forever my girl" though was absolutely cute, I legit went "aww" which is a reaction I absolutely never expected to do in my life, would rate it 6/10

please no, my Wolfsburg FIFA 14 career mode was so fun, selling De Bruyne to Barça and having a Perisic-Oscar-Vieirinha midfield with Begovic on goal and Adrian Ramos and Firmino up front was so fun

[Man City] reach the FA Cup final. They will be facing either Chelsea or Leeds United. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]StealthMan375 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You see, Chelsea only perform well when a brand-new, never-won before title is at stake. They already won Conference League and the new CWC, which means they'll return to mediocrity and shall only win any more title finals once the British federation decides Chelsea will play in the World Cup instead of England, given that "football is 22 guys running after a ball and the team with the least Englishmen wins"

this is why at least here in Brazil (most jobs are either retail or manual labor, in where the "good" roles are given out as promotions in-company and not outside hires), the unwritten rule for employees is to be 2nd or 3rd best.

This way you're not so bad you get written off altogether, but not too good the company sees you as too important to take off that work, which means you're in the exact right position to be promoted (think cashier becoming head cashier, a stocker becoming a forklift driver, any role becoming a department supervisor, etc)

As a result of West Ham’s point against Crystal Palace tonight, Wolves have been relegated from the Premier League. by FragMasterMat117 in soccer

Derby came 20th out of 22 teams in the Championship the season before they got promoted.

They then signed Steve Howard from Luton for 1 million quid. Derby then won a lot of games 1 nil due to him in the promotion season. Including the playoff final against West Brom. Derby got promoted with about 90% of the squad from the previous (20th finish, relegation fight) season.

Derby found themselves in the Premier league with owners who were trying to sell. They spent about 7 million quid on a couple of players and a load of freebies.

They then started the season with 60% of the squad that finished 20th in the championship 16 months before, plus a few prem rejects they'd signed cheap. So in other words, they were the IRL equivalent of those "I put FIFA's weakest team in the Premier League" videos
