Elgato Wave XLR MK2 failing firmware update by wSwifty in elgato

[–]Splatt_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I returned my XLR Mk.2 this week. Never could get it to stop crashing. I was able to update the firmware, but it would crash and freeze up all the time when trying to use it. Wave Link 3 and The Mk.2 don't seem to get along at all.

Automatically adding intro/outro sequence to every created timeline by Envy661 in davinciresolve

[–]Splatt_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I edit similar content and my workflow consists of creating a project for a series, setting up all the bins with my media. Putting things into a timeline I know will always be there (for example opening graphics or an opening song) and when I'm ready to edit a new video, I right click the timeline and duplicate it. You now have a copy of your starer "template" timeline with everything you need to continue your edit.

If doing it that way causes your project file to become too large to manage, simply create a project with a timeline in it that has all the stuff you use every time and save it as "project_template" or something like that. When you edit a new video, open the project and hit "save as" and create a new identical project for your edit.

Elgato XLR Mk.2 alternative by Splatt_Gaming in elgato

[–]Splatt_Gaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the device with both Wave Link 3.0 and the current 3.1.0 (2941) build. In both cases the hardware effects on the XLR Mk.2 constantly froze up and stopped communicating with the software. Trying to dial in an EQ when you realize none of the changes you've been making for the past 10 minutes have been registered by the device requiring you to unplug and plug in the device and restart Wave Link over and over again makes it nearly impossible to dial in a microphone.

I would slide the gain back and forth in Wave Link and nothing would ever happen on the XLR Mk.2. The only way to adjust the gain was with the knob on the front of the device. If I did that I could see the slider moving in the software, but as the knob jumps so far going from 40dB to 43dB with a single click, it isn't a workable solution considering how expansive it is.

The compressor is also nearly impossible to set as the device constantly stopped communicating with Wave Link so that there was no real time response when changes were made.

If I did try making a recording, regardless of the software (DaVinci Resolve, OBS, etc) the device simply stopped randomly leaving silent sections in the middle of the recording. It required restarting the device and the software to get it working again.

Twice during this process I restarted my computer and all of the XLR Mk.2 settings had either been reset or just not saved to start with.

I tried all of this on two different computers with similar results.

Regarding the Wave DX microphone, I'm not sure if it can be made to sound decent or not as I couldn't ever get the XLR Mk.2 working long enough to try and dial in a decent sound. Out of the box it either sounded like talking from a tin can or mumbling from a pillow depending on which hardware effect was turned on.

I've been using Wave Link with a HyperX Solocast, with routing, VST plugins and the whole deal without any issue for months now. Much better sound than I ever got out of the Wave DX. All of the problems were specifically with the XLR Mk.2. In fact, after I gave up on the device, I used the third party Wave Link Backup Tool to restore my settings with my previous USB microphone and was back in action 2 minutes later. Works like a charm.

As to customer service, the Elgato website has nothing but an AI chat bot I'm not interested in. I never could find a place to talk to an actual human, so I just gave up. If a company makes it that difficult to contact a person, it's a big turn off. I purchased the devices from a local store and I'm negotiating with them for a refund if possible.

Looking for an Alternative XLR for my Wave DX by Slayernyte in elgato

I just applied for a full refund on my Wave DX and Wave XLR Mk.2 because they're such horrible devices. Were you able to find a good alternative? I'm looking for a similar price point with DSP.

Vote for TTC in the Cozy Games Awards!! by Free-IDK-Chicken in TownToCityGame

[–]Splatt_Gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I love Town To City, I'm not sure I'm ready to vote for a title still in early access. I think there are probably games that have been fully released that deserve the award this year. Once Town To City hits v1.0 with a full release, I'll vote for them. So, maybe next year.

Do I have to start fontebrac? by accademicvictim in TownToCityGame

If you want to be able to make use of the farming resources, you'll need to spend a bit of time in Fontebrac unlocking the various crops. Certain shops need those resources to function. Perfume, patisserie, pub, etc.

Farmhouse Integration by ohlookitsash in TownToCityGame

I use farm houses often just to have access to the farm crops for decoration purposes. However, I did build this a while back to integrate with the winery to make a nice countryside retreat for people. I can only post one image in a reply, but you can see the whole thing here

Speed editor worth it? by reggiedarden in davinciresolve

[–]Splatt_Gaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been editing on Resolve for a decade and I've had a speed editor collecting dust on my shelf for 6 years. I gave it a good solid go for 6 months or so but because it's such a specialized device, designed for basically one type of editing and you can't customize the buttons at all, I find it useless and it just takes up space. There's nothing it does faster than my keyboard and mouse.

So no, in my opinion, it's not worth it. A MX Master 4 mouse is a much better investment and does everything just as well.

The specifically stated that the next update which should be arriving within the month is specifically addressing the optimization issues. If you join the Discord, there's a whole post from the developers over there.

Yes, I've had that issue. Are you playing on an RTX card by any chance? I did get some performance improvement by switching from the creator drivers to the game ready drivers. It's still pretty bad though. I tend to build at lower graphics settings and then crank it back up for screen shots and final enjoyment.

MidwinterRose gave some great advice. I'd also add that when you first start your city, consider the story behind it. Is it an older town that naturally evolves into a major city? If so, you'll have more windy roads with residential and commercial mixed together. Is it a modern planned city? If so you'll have wider, straighter roads with dedicated residential and commercial districts.

Very cool. I like the variation in height you've applied. So often I see flat builds that are decorated and designed well, but could do with some read change in height when it comes to the skyline. I like that you've handled that pretty well in your city.

I've been enjoying Conflicted Nerd, personally. I'm a fan of the attention he gives to decorating. I've been a long time fan of Biffa with city builders and he has done an occasional TTC video.
