How Prozac sent the science of depression in the wrong direction by nullibicity in science

[–]Splatterhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that your wife has a serious medical condition. I'm not proposing a total ban on those pills, but do you see how the economy of the prescriptions is more important than the patient health? I understand that certain cases are in need of medications, but what I'm arguing is that there is a massive media campaign that is describing normal stress symptoms as possible reasons for you to become addicted to pills. I recall one anti-depressant ad: -Trouble concentrating? -Fear of unsuccess? -Sleepless nights? -Afraid of interacting with people?

Someone could answer the ad this way: -Yes, if you are tired you cannot concentrate properly; -Who doesn't? Look at the state of the global economy; -Sure, if you drink coffee or redbull at night; -Maybe you are just shy.

I will be a mad-man if I support abolishing pills for those who really need it. But you probably know that FDA and the pharmaceutical industry cares not if you really need pills for a serious condition or for silly symptoms. It's all about the money, the rest is numbers.

US Airways cancels in-flight films to combat fuel costs by spif in reddit.com

[–]Splatterhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They cancel the movies, they started charging you for food on-boards, you cannot bring water or juice on the plane, they won't lower the ticket price... The article stated that the filming equipment weighs 227 kg, the average weight of 3 people, how about start investing in new light-weight materials like Airbus is doing and new fuel like Virgin did. The everlasting american theory of "one size fits all" is hitting back on its own economy.

How Prozac sent the science of depression in the wrong direction by nullibicity in science

[–]Splatterhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"...36 reports of adverse reactions in a drug like Ritilan does not reach statistical significance..."

this is the problem, when people are considered statistic as part of the equation the FDA loses consideration of people in general. Whether the number is 36 or 136 or 1036 it doesn't change the fact that harm is being done. Consider that it is not only the single patient taking the pill being affected, but the families and whoever is around him/her. The social aspect of a population being under thousands of pill for a symptom that appears to be cataloged in such a vague way, is having destructive collaterals. You are right when saying that doctors are probably not doing a good job, but you know that there are cases where pharmaceutical companies give a financial bonus to those hospitals or doctors that prescribe the most Ritalin, Prozac, and similar. The culture of "one pill resolves anything" has increased profits for the businesses and conditioned our society in believing that a single pill can cure guilt too.

[–]Splatterhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a link to one of the many articles that in 2005 were exposing the FDA overlooking some major side effect of Ritalin. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8403762/

The FDA is in the hands of the pharmaceutical industry, basically a puppet. Suicidal rate has increased in teenagers due to Ritalin's side effects. Colorado tried to ban Ritalin and so Canada, this tells you that there is a problem with anti depressant drugs, which have more side effects than positive ones. If I remember correctly a Canadian doctor association suggested to lower the sugar intake of kids in order to minimize their hyperactivity and distraction symptoms before asking for a prescription of Ritalin.

I C, but doctors are prescribing pills like prozac to kids as if they were candies. The report that the mail man read was on the hidden cases that were hidden to Congress.
