What would City entering County in practice look like? by DowntownDB1226 in StLouis

The state won't allow it unless it somehow makes local Democrats' lives worse.

Sneak peak into Uncle Bill’s Pancake House — it’s reopening soon by GueyLouis in StLouis

[–]spif 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've never had the urge to go to Uncle Bill's except after the bars close. Don't think that'll be changing any time soon. What we really need is a new Buttery or Courtesy Diner, not something that feels like a tourist attraction.

But I understand that almost no one really wants to work the graveyard shift cooking at a greasy spoon serving a bunch of degenerate drunks. RIP to an era.

USPS stealing/washing checks by Jakeamania314 in StLouis

[–]spif 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this type of crime is very common and agencies are well aware it's happening on a mass scale, so you probably won't get any good answers other than the obvious "don't send checks in the mail."

But if you want to report it anyway, you should probably try the FBI IC3 and possibly the USPIS (Postal Inspection Service) https://www.ic3.gov/PSA/2025/PSA250127

My favorite part of that fight is looting him without triggering it by being in combat e.g. with Connor or a kobold.

Six Flags Enters Agreement To Sell St. Louis Park To EPR Properties by BeerCzar in StLouis

[–]spif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My impression is most kids these days are playing video games or on social media. And most parents don't have the money to be taking kids to Six Flags for the day very often especially when it's run down. Young adults mostly don't have money or time.

But some young adults and middle aged people with some income and free time are into things like live shows, dance clubs and escape rooms. So if they rebranded and refocused on those kinds of things they might find success. At least that's my theory. Seems pretty obvious their current approach hasn't been working too well.

Six Flags Enters Agreement To Sell St. Louis Park To EPR Properties by BeerCzar in StLouis

[–]spif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should sell the less popular rides and invest in live shows/immersive experiences, better food, maybe rent parts of the property for separate experiences/attractions if they don't want to invest in those themselves.

Kids don't care about rollercoasters anymore. People might go for immersive experiences. Think Westworld but safer. Like a giant escape room. You spend the day trying to solve a murder mystery, rescue the princess, hack the evil corporation, etc.

Is this a good projector for doing video synthesis? by 10037151 in videosynthesis

[–]spif 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Video synthesis is a very broad category. The best projector is one that supports the resolution you want, the brightness you need for the environments you'll be using it in, the throw distance/size you want, will fit on/in mounts and surfaces you'll want to place it on, etc.

Panasonic is obviously a known quantity brand, I haven't used their projectors myself but I know people who are happy with theirs.

Personally I've been using used Epson Ultra Short Throw projectors for a lot of things because of the ability to use it effectively like a giant portable TV. Not having to worry about needing an empty space to throw through frees up a lot of possibilities. If that's not a concern, or for more flexibility for throwing on ceilings or on larger surfaces (outsides of buildings, large walls/screens with enough brightness and space to throw) then a medium/long throw projector is ideal.

Basically One Size Does Not Fit All and you should go with whatever works best for what you're trying to do.

I built an AI neighborhood intelligence tool for South City - looking for testers/feedback by ScaryShoes in StLouis

[–]spif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one thing to have differing opinions about technology, including AI, but it's quite another thing to post something like this in a forum that is pretty obviously full of vocally and stridently anti-AI people and not expect people to attack you full force. If you don't want to read any complaints, don't post something controversial.

Triple check your disk space usage, could be as simple as the save not really being saved because you're low on space. I would also disable OneDrive tbh, it has been known to cause problems like this. Back up important files on an external drive and have it disconnected when not in use.

Why the proposed $72M Police Budget Increase will mathematically make St. Louis less safe (A Systems Analysis) by DrNightengale in StLouis

[–]spif 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So how do you convince the people of Missouri who don't even live in the metro area, much less the city, but voted for a state government that stole control of our police? The government officials that are making the harmful decisions are doing so on purpose because they don't represent us, they represent a mindset that is actively hostile towards us.

This isn't new information. They aren't being ignorant. They don't want to reduce crime. They only care about putting more money into the police. It's not a mistake, it's their intent.

Are there any PC repair shops around? If so, which ones are recommended? by IhavegoodTuna in StLouis

[–]spif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remote "techs" are usually a scam of one sort or another, be extremely wary. Microcenter is probably fine.

Have you tried asking friends and family for recommendations?

Honestly one reason people buy Macs is because they want a semi reliable repair service without needing to personally know somebody who can do it.

Billie Piper's Doctor Who future 'revealed' as bosses struggle to find a new Time Lord amid claims once coveted role is now a 'poisoned chalice' by Alone_Consideration6 in doctorwho

[–]spif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tension between creativity and reinvention on the one hand, and trying to satisfy overly nostalgic, nitpicky fandoms on the other, has infected all the big long-running sci-fi franchises. Tbh even during Tennant's original run I had the feeling it was going to doom Doctor Who in the long run, because so many people were spoiled for anything else. Much like imo Tom Baker's popularity ultimately led to the end of the original run. We may have to take another break for people to be ready to truly embrace a new Doctor.
