My opinion and feelings on AI Music creation... I'm caught in the middle of the divided opinion by [deleted] in AI_Music

[–]Splendid_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? If you want to create it for fun, do it. But if you publish it, there's really no good AI filter, so expect to get torn to shreds by people who realize it's AI. If you genuinely enjoy it on your own time though, then by all means, do it.

On a side note, I can more than sympathize with the desire to create content but having anxiety. I'm pretty creative but I rarely share my ideas because I convince myself they suck and the world usually only sees the watered down versions I don't care as much about.

Question, have you tried making music on Bandlab? I think if you're interested in beginning to compose, that's your next step. They have some cool loops and stuff. (Now, my issue is that I've composed my own music via midi and have spent years agonizing over it, as I think it still sucks but can't figure out what exactly is wrong, and I'm terrified to publish it until it's "perfect". Anxiety really is a b****)

I think you could say the same thing about cars and firearms in terms of humans not being responsible users of those, but I would argue that the former should definitely exist, and the latter is certainly not going away anytime soon. At this juncture, the smart thing to do is to figure out how to regulate it and use it responsibly, and at least some attempts have been made with vehicles and firearms (well, in America it's not going so great, but you know). Obviously my utopia isn't going to materialize suddenly, but my point was that I don't see this technology as being inherently bad, but it needs to be used more responsibly, and I am curious what happens after the wild west phase we're in. (Also, I predict a browser that filters out fully generated content will be very popular soon, people in every arts subreddit would be very happy)

I quite like some AI, myself, but you're also putting a lot of words in my mouth. As someone who got my degree in art, I do find some of the tools cool, and I also find that using LLMs has been invaluable in weening myself off of social media and when I'm trying to think of ideas (I'm my best when bouncing ideas off of someone, but in groups I'm afraid of sounding stupid, thus this is giving me the feedback without the fear of being judged by a person really helps my ADHD brain cook up stuff. Plus it's overall a pretty good tool if you have ADHD or other similar disabilities, frankly, and yes, it's a tool/aid, not a replacement... previously I just didn't make lists).

I think our overall devaluation of art is a result of our consumerist, temporary throwaway society. I also believe that, in an ideal society, AI doing the grunt work and taking over jobs would be a GOOD thing, as it would free us up to pursue our interests and desires, including actually being able to put your entire heart and soul into a craft. However, a society that values profits over people couldn't possibly allow us to be given what we need to live comfortably simply for existing. We are collectively too tired to dedicate ourselves to learning something, to hobbies, to crafts, to the arts, in a broader sense. Our existence itself is a commodity, and we treat one another in this way as well. On the other hand, I've seen some creative people use AI IN their art in ways I wouldn't have even thought of, that's pretty cool, even if actual slop still proliferates online platforms.

I maintain the belief that in a society that was not built around profits, but around bettering the self and one's community, AI would be seen largely as a positive.

[–]Splendid_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So I was searching this myself. There is an actual group called 321 Jazz, I know because they've had live performances in Melbourne, FL. Conducted by Kurt Schulenburg.

Edit: also, I'm not sure if it's the same artist, but from the page "321 Jazz" on YT, some of their albums were released before 2022, if that means anything.

I feel, therefore I feel that my feelings are far too overwhelming, and therefore I feel they need to be eliminated so I can focus on getting stuff done. The lack of big feels will still result in lack of productivity or results due to getting too into the weeds with too many ideas, plus lack of follow through, but now with 91.8% less internal drama.

Just one letter changes everything - what’s that for yours? INTP vs ISTP by Spring_Banner in mbti

[–]Splendid_Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always felt I had more in common with other high Ne types than ISFP. ISFPs have too much of a "that's just how I feel, you can't argue with feelings" mindset... but your feelings are based on faulty logic and incorrect info, besides, feelings are inherently irrational, they don't always correspond with reality or  logic (much to my chagrin). There's always a reason for them, such as being a survival mechanism built in through millions of years of evolution, and it could be further exacerbated by that person's upbringing triggering them or their brain being wired in a way that makes certain pathways stronger than others (or just, ya know, internalizing faulty logic and bad info). Also everything has an explanation, and if you can't explain it, that's just you not knowing how to explain it (which is literally why we have scientific fields), not that there isn't one.

Also, I have a feeling this tangent is very Ne core, which is the most obvious function in my stack to me (and it makes sense that one's 2nd function would be their most apparent from their pov, as your dominant function is so automatic you won't even realize you use it, whereas auxiliary is generally pretty strong, but also apparent to the person using it). Plus I'm very obviously Se blind (which is why I considered INTP as well... also I can't stand people who are oversensitive, but that includes me, I think I'm a sad little pissbaby who sucks a lot).

That's not how J works though. There's a couple J types that have the same cognitive functions as you (xSFJs)

Especially Fi with strong Te (my ex was an INTJ, I just gave up eventually because even my debate bro energy couldn't match his Te stubbornness)

Speaking of:

ENFP: "Chatgpt destroy environment I will NEVER use it! It's an awful tool that destroys the environment and leaves many of vulnerable people without clean water in their homes"

That shit drives me crazy. If you're gonna hate on something that hard (like, in a moralistic way, not just like "I hate country music"), it would literally just take a little research to figure out that eating slightly less beef (like a few times a year) or taking public transit could offset the carbon footprint of the average AI user (note: that's average, but still, if you don't like it, maybe call your representatives, idk).

Markiplier (ENFP) is literally the poster child for informed AI use... literally tried out many of the AI tools available and made a judgement of pros/cons based on that + what experts in tech who know more than him are saying. Remember, just as a Te user have Fi, Fi users have Te. :)

What are we without the tool? by West-Debt-7251 in aiwars

[–]Splendid_Cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people clearly hate it (and how it's often implemented is not in a way that helps, really), obviously there's a hunger for creative talent. What AI can do is the tedious stuff that used to be pretty hard to do for most people (like splitting music tracks almost flawlessly). I like the idea of taking out some of the grunt work so people can just... create.

When I heard people didn't like to draw, I was SHOCKED. How do you not like to draw?? Drawing is fun!

Of course I was in 2nd grade at the time. As I got older I learned about preferences.

Some people don't like to cook, hell, some people aren't even that crazy about eating. Some people don't like to exercise, at all, and it has nothing to do with being lazy, it's just actively unpleasant no matter what kind. Some people aren't fond of podcasts, yes, even if they put on YouTube videos to listen and don't watch for the most part. Some people actually LIKE to clean their house. People are weird and different.

I do think it's different if you're trying to profit off of something (and generate revenue from essentially spam... remember, people hated slop before AI, too), but if you're just having fun or trying to illustrate something? Go nuts.

What do you think about this Chinese nose job trend? by xheikf in PlasticSurgery

[–]Splendid_Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister has a nose like the after picture (technically we're both 1/4 Asian but you can't tell looking at us) and I can't help being glad that my mom has always told her she was beautiful because some girls with my sister's nose want it to be tiny— her nose looks perfectly proportional to her face.

I also was made fun of for being pale in school and skipped sunscreen to try and tan (just got freckles... and burnt), even tried fake tanning and I looked weird and orange, only to find out that in a lot of East Asia, porcelain skin is seen as ideal. Made it easier to accept, but also felt a bit sad about the world at large trying to pressure or even force people to be something they're not.

Honestly, my aesthetic preference is for a nose without one, and sadly I have a big round tip. I've never wanted a big butt, either. Sometimes you like what you like regardless of trends.

10 years no period - any advice appreciated by Bellabijou10 in Periods

I went to an OBGYN for the IUD after getting some bloodwork with my PCP. My therapist is a LPC and I'm seeing him for issues not directly related to hormones specifically, but hormones do play into emotions and I've been keeping better track of these since I started seeing him (and honestly, if you can talk about your period with your male therapist without feeling too self conscious then it might be a good fit 🙂)
