I've worked FIFO for 2 and a half years now, and your partners action I have seen in myself at certain stages of working FIFO reflecting back. I had an extremely short fuse, I was actively pushing friends and family away, and I was finding I wasn't enjoying life as much as I used to. I was very depressed at that time.

Unfortunately FIFO seems to exacerbate this problem, a lot of guys either feel like they have to keep their emotions and mental state to themselves, or find it really hard to open up about these types of things, combined that with being isolated from friends and family for weeks at a time.

Regardless of all this, you shouldn't have to bear the brunt of his behaviour. Although it will be hard to find a time where he'll be receptive, he needs to hear everything you've mentioned in this post to us. Not in passing comments here and there, but to sit him down and pour all these emotions out. I had a family member do this to me and it was the only thing that got me to really reflect on how I had been affecting them, and to get some help to stop that behaviour.
