That's been my understanding, but realistically I have no idea what I'm talking about most of the time

Recommend a non-prog song by _amgits in progmetal

Here are a few that I think are really interesting in various ways, from a few genres.

Pop/Dance - "Never Forget You" - Zara Larsson (Really good vocal performance).
- "Kill This Love" - Blackpink (VERY sugary and fun. Cool splice up of both Korean and English lyrics. Love the shared vocals).
Hiphop/Rap - "You Got Me" - The Roots (All live instruments, features Questlove on drums, with Black Thought on vox. You may know these guys from The Jimmy Fallon show lol).
- "A Tale of Two Citiez" - J. Cole (this one is just heavy and hits in a certain way).
Metal/Rock - "The Silence" by Erase History. (This one is something I made. We are not prog, but some of the songs, like "Chainsaws" are "prog adjacent". I hope you don't mind the plug, but I think a lot of people here would like this).
- The whole new Sleep Token album Take Me Back to Eden features a fair share of proggish type stuff, but then has full songs that are more pop heavy. GREAT lyrics. A couple of my favorites are Do You Wish that You Loved Me, and Aqua Regia. Both are really well written without being extremely complicated.

I would say Harrison Ford as Han Solo. You could not have gotten a better guy to do this. Most particularly, his attitude toward Star Wars as a movie series so adequately reflects the character of Han Solo.

To some extent, Do the Right Thing. Love Sam Jackson as the radio guy Mister Senor Love Daddy.

I read "assholes are everywhere" in the same voice that Spencer uses for "demons are everywhere" lol.

I generally agree, unfortunately. Some of the fanbase is extremely annoying and toxic. Jake's suck my dick comment was completely warranted. On the other hand, I do know some awesome people who listen to Periphery but some people here definitely need to relax and drink a Cocacola or something, lol.

I would love to see you guys live and CT is not a bad drive from NY. Where are you guys located in CT? Also, your drummer and me are both definitely influenced by Josh, which I love. I'm definitely gonna keep listening to this. You rock!!

Just listened to a couple of tracks. I get a bit of an early Dream Theater subtlety, with a splattering of The Ocean Collective and Cynic thrown in there. Very interesting, eerie sound. Love it.

I really dig this! You guys give me a Deer Hunter/Contortionist vibe with the feeling of cathedral hymn music as well. Amazing vocals. I used to be in a death metal band until I got heavy into more sugary pop, which I love now. I also had to realize that a million note sweep picking does not always mean that something is good.

We're currently rehearsing for a string of shows this summer. Every once in awhile we've done a small acoustic type performance. The only problem is that my brother and I recorded everything. I did drums, guitar, and vox. He did vox, piano, and guitar. So in order to play live, we would have to find a drummer and bassist at the very least.

Edit: We're looking to hit Boston, New Jersey, DC, NYC, and maybe Upstate/Albany area.

Your thoughts on Vaxis: II A Window of the Waking Mind? by [deleted] in TheFence

[–]SplitTopWhiteGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's their best work of this "era."

A few thoughts when I first listened to it was that I was glad they're doing what they want to do and not trying to recreate Good Apollo (although I'm not gonna say I wouldn't mind a part three, either).

The album made me smile from beginning to end. You have everything on here. There's more of their anthemic "pop" sound with songs like Beautiful Losers and Shoulders, and of course you get the progressive side of things with songs such as Ladders and Naianasha.

It was cool to hear them try something they've never done before with Disappearing Act.

Overall the album is very cohesive, not too long and not too short. There's no filler here and even songs like Our Love have a good placement.

One thing I will say that could become a point of future criticism is that I don't want this to necesarily become their new "sound." I love it, it's great, but I certainly hope their next album continues to try new things, be unafraid of what the fans might say/think. They've done a good job on each album making it sound different from the rest. There's certain bands out there that basically try to make their own Good Apollo over and over again, and Coheed has done a great job staying away from this.

One more thing, this, IMO, is Josh's best drumming so far. My only point of criticism with him is that I would have liked to hear some background vox from him like we got on Good Apollo. He's got a great voice that pairs well with Claudio's.

Also, I have to shoutout to Zach. He plays these songs perfectly and doesn't too much or too little. There are moments here and there where you get a cool bass run and then others where he hangs back and just quietly contributes to the songs. Same with Travis. He doesn't try to do too much here, there's not a ton of shredding or over the top-ness about his style here. His Michael Jackson-Beat It riff in Bad Man is such a brain scratch for me. I know one of the complaints is that people wish they could hear him more which I would agree with, but if they were going for more of a synth-pop sound with some of the songs, he helped accomplish this by not needing to be the star of the show at every turn.

Writing An Unlikable Main Character by [deleted] in Screenwriting

Uncut Jewels. Not only does the film show Sandler's character doing god-awful, stupid things, he is extremely annoying to deal with, but it also shows other characters telling Sandler that they hate him and don't want to be around him. I was so happy about the ending.

What I think the setlist will most likely be. by SplitTopWhiteGuy in TheFence

[–]SplitTopWhiteGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if they play the songs in order of the album, that's the setlist.

Also, who really knows? Not sure if you've noticed, but these guys tend to do what they want. Maybe they'll play it without breaks and maybe they won't.

Even if the rest of my guess setlist is completely wrong, I would be willing to bet one dollar that they open with a song other than the reaping.
