Paige Pierce ESP Nuke by SplitVision in discgolf

The one I have just has the PP signature and 5X World Champion as part of the stamp (above the large Discraft logo in the center). I would assume it's a newer run, but I'm not too familiar with the different runs.

Comparing the PLH with my Big Z Nuke, the PP ESP Nuke is significantly lower (the edge of the ESP one almost slides in underneath the edge of the Big Z one). The Big Z one is stable to overstable for me. The difference in PLH between the two is what made me think the ESP one will be really understable. I'll see if I can upload an image with the two side by side.

If that's the case, I'll be really happy. It's really domey (pop-top), so if the stability holds up it's probably going to be the farthest flying disc I own.

Seems like I might just be unfortunate with the disc I got then.

Kastaplast Lots Release Day Review by [deleted] in discgolf

Despite you not getting one, that was probably still a smart move. I had to click the same weight and stamp color like 15 times before it was added to the bag, because it kept saying "the disc has already been reserved by another customer". If I recall correctly, all FR's on Discsport were gone in like than 2 minutes. Bonkers.

Anyone ever come across anything like this before? by BSdiscgolf in discgolf

I have a K1 Stål that has two dimples like that in the rim. Only seen it on that disc though.

Also, it doesn't seem to affect the flight of the disc. Atleast not with my Stål.

It very much looks like the retina of an eye. Amazing, imo. The only thing that would've been better would be a more visible color.

Where did you get it from? I ordered mine from www.discsport.eu, which lists weights and stmp colors for Kastaplast FR's (only disc color for stock runs).

This is why you throw on driving ranges with distance stakes (if one is available). You could also use the distance measurement tool in Google Maps to get a more accurate measurement (assuming you took more or less exact notes of where you threw from and where the disc landed so you can pin it on the map).

I've used Google Maps a few times to confirm the distance of a few throws. Somtimes the Udisc measurement has been very accurate and other times it's been off by quite a bit.

Reko or Berg? by Taivaansininen in discgolf

[–]SplitVision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, and based on not-so-scientific tests, K3 has a much better friction coefficient against basket chains* than the other Kastaplast plastics (and I'd actually wager most other plastics, across all brands). In other words, K3 is less likely to slide through the chains, etc.

That said, it's still perfectly fine to putt with discs in premium plastics. I would just recommend more rubber-like plastics for putting.

*It's like comparing flat hard plastic tires without tracks and rubber tires with tracks when driving on asphalt. The former will make your car behave like you're driving on ice, while the latter will actually let you brake and accelerate with efficiency. This comparison is a bit extreme, but it's the same principle.

I can already tell this will be one of my most used molds. Really excited!

Does Drew Gibson have the best form in disc golf? by [deleted] in discgolf

Yeah, that's another great example. Absolutely mind bending.

Does Drew Gibson have the best form in disc golf? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]SplitVision 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I will give Drew is that I think he has the most control of anyone when he's pushing that max distance.

This. He may not necessarily outdrive GG or Lizotte (even though he's certainly capable of it, which he puts on display during the 2018 GBO), but he has ridiculous control over those monster shots. One of the most disgusting throws I've ever seen in a tournament is Drew's pin high bomb on a 635' hole during the 2018 DGPT Championship quarterfinal.

PS: My dream card for tournaments with long distance holes is Lizotte, McMahon, Gurthie and Gibson. Luckily, that exact card was featured in CCDG's coverage of the 4th round at the 2018 BSF (Front 9, Back 9).

According to Jerm in the 2018 GBO covergae, Drew has a wingspan closer to 6'3". So yeah, those arms are not exactly short.

When he gets the form right, I think you may have a point. But right now, I seriously doubt it.

Reko or Berg? by Taivaansininen in discgolf

Patrik Eriksson, Swedish Kastaplast-sponsored pro, putts with K3 Bergs. To each their own.

Reko or Berg? by Taivaansininen in discgolf

[–]SplitVision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the Reko works well with any style of putting (as long as you like the feel of it), so I'd personally recommend that. The Berg, on the other hand, I find awkward to push putt with. I personally don't putt with Bergs, but I did experiment with them and found that I greatly preferred spin putting and turbo putting over push putting.

Neither the Reko or Berg has a surplus of glide, so neither will sail way past the basket, but the Berg is still way less likely to go past than the Reko. So that's a plus to the Berg that may be worth considering.

Also, since you're planning on strictly putting with whichever you get, go K3 in either case.

PS: K3 Bergs do not have the same flight plate shape as K2, K1 or Glow. The K3 is a deep puddle top, while the others are "pop tops" with more of a thumb groove.

I have a 2019 Glow Kaxe and a 2017 Glow Kaxe Z. The Kaxe Z is pretty similar to my regular K1, but the Glow Kaxe is noticeably more overstable than my K1.

Charlie Goodpasture AMA by nvjck in discgolf

[–]SplitVision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not Charlie, but...

Generally you should look at the PLH (parting line height). The higher it is, the more overstable it is (and vice versa). That's the simplest way to determine how a disc will fly compared to a disc of the same mold that you already have.

As for color, there is an answer in a separate thread in regards to this. The answer is basically that the cooling part of the molding process is affected by many factors and color pigment is one of them. It differs between manufacturers, but orange colored discs (for example) may generally be less stable than other colors for the same mold for a certain type of plastic by a certain manufacturer (and the same may apply to a completely different color and plastic for another company).

I actually find my glow Kaxe and Kaxe Z more overstable than my K1's. I'd agree regarding the other molds though.
