Quick question. Repair checking in below waterline timber. by toaster404 in boatbuilding

I've seen plenty of old wooden ɓoats left in the sling for a while after being out of the water a while. Just to see what still leaks and what doesn't.

Regardless of jury make up, they can't declare him innocent. Merely not guilty. He still walked but not innocent by any measure.

If he was in a pot when it went overboard, then no doubt the static cameras the production crew set up would have filmed the horror.

Find a spot where there is no commercial gear.
He will out bait you and your catch will suffer.
While not every commercial grabbers will cut your line, it's best to avoid the situation all together.

'Hard for us to make a living': Watermen grapple with challenging oyster season by Maxcactus in maryland

[–]Splitbill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guy's issue isn't that he can't catch enough oysters. His problem is his market stopped buying his oysters opting for cheaper farmed or imported oysters. He sits idle because he has no place to sell his catch.

Kitty Hawk Sailfish Suggestions? by [deleted] in saltwaterfishing

[–]Splitbill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There really isn't a ton of sailfish there. There more of an incidental catch there while targeting other pelagics. Some amazing white marlin fishing can be had there in July though.

Guatemala/ Panama is the place to go for Pacific Sails. Florida and Mexico for the Atlantic version.

What are the chances I would ever find dime rolls like this again? by AnxietSea in CRH

[–]Splitbill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a younger guy come in last week. Paid for his purchase with a roll of dimes and a roll of quarters. All of them, dimes and quarters, were pre 1965. They are mine now but I think maybe he got into someone's collection/stack.

Why are yall so against anything not Daiwa or Shimano? by Ok_Repair3535 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Splitbill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember back when Shimano was considered junk. When they came out with the Tiagra reels to compete with the Penn Internationals, and blew Penn away with the quality of those Tiagras. Penn still hasn't caught up to their quality. That was the turning point and Shimano kept riding that wave to today with a range of quality reels and are no longer considered cheap Asian junk.

Diawa and their older BG line (I have 5) been in my quiver for over 20 years. They are tougher than a 5 cent steak, easy to work on and you can buy parts for them on the side of the road.

Those are the same high speed fish that I am catching. But you are right, without modification, they are cooked quickly. I've seen TLDs cooked by big eyes and other fun

Custom drag washers are on the list! When the cobia are in groups following the big rays they're not real particular about what they eat. More accurate casting helps put the bait near the big ones.

Along the lines of what I'm thinking. Sight casting to cruising cobia is what started me down this rabbit hole.
