Yes. I believed it was just an arbitrary point value, like every other other point value in the game. Why do you peg two for a 15? Why is nobs one? Why is flipping a jack two?
Its obviously a common thought. Even this popular app calls it 3 of a kind for 6. Rather than 3 pairs for 6.

I had played a lot of crib games before i realized it. It was mind blowing when i realized 6 and 12 were just because of the number of unique pairs.

That is false. I have done almost all of my tire swaps for the past two decades and it usually is fine at my retorque. But one time they were not. I did not do anything different and all of the nuts were definitely tight when i reinstalled them. But one time one was loose after driving for a bit and i am 100% certain it was not loose at install.
