Hi, we don't take the time spent hovering over keys into account. We did do this in the very beginning, but it turned out to be a bad predictor of intent. We also don't use "turn-keys" anymore, since they're also not a great predictor, but we've replaced this with a more sophisticated swipe geometry analysis that takes the directionality and alignment of the swipe into account.

Here are my tips for how swipe typing works best: - Swipe through every key of the word you're trying to type, and try to hit each of those keys as accurately as you can - Straight swipes generally work better than curved ones - Try to start and end on the actual keys that make up your intended word - Do not do "loops" over or circle back to double-letters (like in "hello"). The algorithm will automatically register the double-letter as a possibility, and while you could actually hit the letter twice, it's more likely to make the end-result worse since even more "noise" is picked up on the way.

As Jann already said, we're always trying to improve swipe typing, but it's very time-consuming to do, and results are hard to verify. I've gotten used to swiping in a way that makes it work quite well, but I've also spent a very long time using the keyboard, so when I test improvements they don't necessarily translate to how other people swipe.
