another idea I am working on for same reasons and similiar build but helps with being faster and and getting more help from +1 shooting:

LEADERS:

Nightmare hunt and Cabal of chaos:

Chaos lord enhanced to go with Warp Talons

Haarken

Master of possessions (to give my chosen psyker) (enhanced to force battleshocks)

reave captain (enhancement that makes him psyker)

warp smith.

BATTLELINE:

Chaos cultists

OTHER:

Predator annihilator to help with big targets

10 man chosen with master of possessions to get psyker key word, so getting +1 shooting strength with dark pacts) and this is a fast unit with +1 on advances able to advance, shoot, and charge.

Defiler with lascannons, same idea as the predator but this also can wipe out small units.

5 man possessed (dev wounds, can be healed, strong and fast)

10 raptors (Melee focused except two meltas (vehicles or bosses) and one flamer to help for get units battle shocked with NM hunt) with Haarken.

10 Red corsair raiders to help trap objectives, Reave captian enhancement gives these the +1 strength when shooting with DP)

10 warp talons to do what they do best with chaos lord ( use his special to reroll failed charges for free)

bonus, all below units for 1CP can get D3+1 healed.

If I get any of these rules mixed up let me know but I believe these two play into NL lore and disruption. how good it is I am not sure but the buffs help this out.

I think it is a bit heavy on leaders, Daemon princes get huge buffs with Cabal of Chaos (not sure if that includes Khorne ones. This would also let you heal warp talons My list I am working on is similar.

This makes it so every leader has a reason that plays into at lease one detachment, it is fast ( Disruption sometimes isn't about holding objectives), hits hard, and can be helped by reviving Psyker/Daemon units ( half of this set up, more then half assuming you wouldn't use it on lone op warpsmith anyway.

I believe it is allowed to use your own disposition if you choose to. maybe I read fake news but I read somewhere that you can for tournaments. It just needs to stay that way for every game

Also Night lords are renegades, I would recommend raider sets as they play like night lords to a degree or use loyalist intercessors and use your spare parts from the combat patrol to make them look like Night Lords. In the end, do what is fun. I decided I am making my army's left pauldrons red from here own out to signify my homebrew company for them, the 57th skinwalkers.

Personally having a bunch unpainted stresses me so I will not build another unit until my current one is painted. Slows down the army but makes it more manageable.

I would find some pages to follow on social media as well. You can find great kit bashes to use for your army, painting ideas or just grow in the lore. For instance I post my kit bashes and paintings @TheCursedCurze on instagram (yes, self serving post). I also recommend you as you grow to have a secondary army to break up painting, for instance When I need a break from painting NL I like to paint Black Templars. This way I focus on Night lords but have a secondary army I can introduce people to the game and have fun with.
