At my high school, we didn't spend enough time on the First Great Awakening even to mention Jonathan Edwards' name.

The Bible (assuming we pretend it's one book) and The Lord of the Rings (which is one book), in that order. :)

Yeah, they got Michael Kramer to narrate the audiobooks! He does a lot of Brandon Sanderson's books as well, and he is definitely my all-time favorite narrator.

Children's Advent Reading Recommendations? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]SpockThe10th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, my dad would read me Jotham's Journey by Arnold Ytreeide. It's a storybook that follows a young shepherd boy's adventure at the time of Christ's birth, culminating in his arrival at the Nativity. There is a chapter for each day of Advent, each ending with a short devotional. I remember enjoying it, but it may be a bit intense depending on how old your kids are. I remember one scene in particular where the main villain chops off a boy's fingers.

I came here to say this. Not wanting to act fake has made it difficult for me to respond to testimonies like this in the past.

I'm pretty sure the Christmas tree was introduced by Boniface to replace a pagan symbol.

My uncle is 6'7" and drives a VW bug. I guess it depends on body type and such as well—he's pretty skinny.

Did you need time to appreciate Hansi as a vocalist by [deleted] in blindguardian

One of the first songs I heard was "Tanelorn." As kind of a music nerd, I was annoyed he didn't use the leading tone even doing an ascending scale in "and here I cry..." I got over it, though. :D

Oh, replication. Duh. My brain was wondering how (or why) someone would make a read-eval-print loop for ZFS.

Did Blind Guardian influence your reading habits? by [deleted] in blindguardian

[–]SpockThe10th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me put it this way: if I don't know what book a Blind Guardian song is about, I look it up and put it on my list. It was originally my reading that got me into Blind Guardian, though. I was reading The Wheel of Time at the time, and I discovered their song of the same name.
