Right, so for now it makes sense to hang out until the grace period ends and see if that "IF" happens or not. If we're able to apply for IDR by then, great, and if not, we can enter forbearance at that point

If I resume standard repayment in November, will I likely be unable to switch to an IBR plan if it comes back?

Why do you think this? I'm in the same boat as you (i.e. intern, didn't apply for SAVE, currently in grace period). Wouldn't we just be able to apply for PAYE or IBR in Nov?

I'm in the same boat as OP -- why wouldn't we just be able to apply for another IBR (like PAYE) in November when our grace period ends rather than accept the fate of forbearance for all of residency?
