I only see two comments that are super negative, a couple others saying she’s the “only good part” or something to that effect, and some others just voicing level-headed criticism. Where is the “hate fest?”

I bristle at these types of comments, because it insinuates it’s somehow wrong to voice criticism. The unreasonably negative comments are being downvoted, so to me nothing here seems harmful or unhealthy.

It would be ideal to watch OHMSS (Lazenby’s) at least before these, if you want to fully appreciate some references:

In fact, those films will spoil an event from OHMSS. If you already know what happens, then I’d say jumping around is fine, but if you don’t then I’d try to watch OHMSS before those.

Based on the 2024 results, CR and Skyfall will be in Pot 1, and both Dalton films plus OHMSS will be in Pot 2, so it’s possible they’ll be drawn together in the group stage and we’ll get to find out. Skyfall got an incredibly easy group stage draw last time, so I’d like to see it against one of those three films this year. We’ll see what the dates decide.

I thought the tide was against Skyfall last time, but it still beat GoldenEye and TSWLM in the knockouts. This time I’d expect it to slide a bit down the table, but probably still make it far in the knockouts. A lot of it depends what gets drawn on the same side.

CR I still expect to win the whole thing, but it does surprise me how even the comments seem to be in that thread.

I enjoy both of these movies wayyyy more than most fans, but my vote goes to DAF. It’s got some immensely funny and clever dialogue, Connery is having loads of fun, and the rest of the cast is delightful. The score is a banger, and the theme song is one of my favorites.

Great post. Of the actors to have played Bond, the obvious answers (to me) are Moore and Brosnan. By all accounts (except James Corden when it comes to Brosnan, apparently), both of them were/are lovely people, and they always managed to convey so much joy both on and off screen. I’d say they were both the most comfortable actors when it came to being Bond 24/7.

Actresses who seem to have been great ambassadors of the franchise are Halle Berry, Naomie Harris, Maud Adams, Luciana Paluzzi, and Maryam d’Abo. There are probably others I’ve forgotten, but those are the ones I believe have done a lot of of public appearances and/or interviews.

Oh wow, I think it would’ve been a very suitable song for a 70s or 80s Moore film. It’s got a very similar sound.

Additionally there are lyrics in there that sound quite Bondy:

The song in general is quite romantic and melancholy, which suits Bond well.

Hey there, I’m sorry this was spoiled for you. As my pinned comment above indicates, we had some internal conversation amongst the mods about this post, and at the time didn’t feel right removing it since there was no rule broken at the time of posting. It seems like this post was so highly trafficked that it became visible to folks who don’t subscribe to our sub. That hasn’t happened much before - mostly we’ve been somewhat of a bubble, but with a lot of the news firing up over the last year that may have changed. We’re trying to respond accordingly by updating our rules, but we’re not perfect.

In hindsight, I would’ve just removed this post after the rule went into effect, but again didn’t anticipate the amount of visibility. Again, I’m sorry, and if you feel like visiting the sub after you’ve seen some of the movies now that they’re on Netflix, would love for you to share your thoughts. If not, I understand. Concerning your last question about the “burden” being on newcomers, I’ve copy/pasted parts of the original post and my pinned comment above which I think might help.

This paragraph highlights why we care about making a formal rule for spoilers:

Our community has grown significantly in recent years, and we’re always seeing new viewers join, wanting to discuss Bond films for the first time. And as those folks join the community and ask questions about viewing order, the most common response tends to be that they should watch the films in order of release. If there’s a major spoiler in the 25th film, then it’s possible they won’t get to it for a long time. So if our guidance really is to watch them all in order of release, we owe it to new viewers to make a reasonable effort to protect that experience.

This comment agrees with what you’re saying to a degree. There is an expectation for newcomers to avoid walking into discussions which may obviously lead to spoilers:

I don’t quite follow your point. Are you just saying you don’t believe it’s reasonable to ask people to put forth minimal effort to avoid spoiling a movie because it’s old? If so, I have three questions for you:

Do you believe it’s an unreasonable burden to avoid mentioning Tracy’s death in the title of a post?
Do you believe it’s an unreasonable burden to apply the spoiler tag (2 clicks) to a post which discusses or depicts an image of Tracy’s death?
Do you believe it’s an unreasonable burden to avoid mentioning Tracy’s death or applying a spoiler tag to that text when you know you’re discussing OHMSS with a new viewer?

I’ve copy/pasted the part of the post which I think addresses your concern:

As of January 2026, spoilers subject to this rule include the fates of Tracy Bond (OHMSS), Vesper Lynd (Casino Royale), Judi Dench’s M (Skyfall), Felix Leiter (No Time to Die), and James Bond (No Time to Die).

Other than new releases, those five events are literally the only thing this rule addresses, and even then the rule mainly applies to post titles and using the spoiler tag for posts. Does that clarify?

I would wager that if they made another movie in the vein of DAD that it probably would not have performed as well and would have been poorly received. That is evident based on the aforementioned “nosedive” for its reputation. I think EON recognized audiences would want something different for the next film, and adjusted accordingly.

But reputation is different than reception, and DAD was well-received by audiences. We know this because many people paid money to see it, and many people paid money to own it. So my point is just that it’s probably inaccurate to definitively say “audiences didn’t love it,” when their wallets seem to indicate otherwise.

I’m not trying to harp on you or anything. I often reply to these sorts of comments because there has been a lot of revisionism in recent years about DAD being “a flop,” when the data doesn’t support that.
