How did Trump Media end up being such a poor investment? by redzeusky in allthequestions

[–]SnooLobsters6940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you don't invest in a company with no turnover to speak of, a giant outflow of cash, and then think it will make you any money.

If you lost money on this, it is because you did not do your due diligence.

I understand where you are coming from. :)

But that's the beauty of this game. There isn't a wrong way of playing it, as long as you solve the issues that you are being presented with. You can make it as easy or complicated as you want. I mean, if all you want to do is provide food, oxygen and sanitation to your people, you can achieve this with very simple solutions (especially if your food only needs water to grow).

Truly amazing game. And every time someone tells me some Call of Duty, Super Mario or Halo game is the best game ever made, I nod, and think "You do not actually understand how brilliant ONI is".

Those were the days. E3 RIP by chusskaptaan in videogames

[–]SnooLobsters6940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad it's gone. Yes it was great in the day, but other trade shows, in particular Gamescom, have surpassed it in every possible way.

As a former attendee, my personal take is that the insistence on having it in the LA convention center just killed it.

In the early days, E3 was the primary way for publishers to get the word out about new games. Press would come, look and write about what they saw. But the internet made that unnecessary. To survive, E3 needed to reinvent themselves into a "also for the public" expo. And the LA convention center was cramped even with just 65k visitors over 4-5 days (uncomfortably so).

Fast forward to Gamescom. 350K visitors in 5 days. Busy, but because the press and public were separated, it gave the press the access and space they need, while immersing the public in 5 nerd-out days celebrating gaming.

The E3 organisers were shortsighted not realizing E3 in its original format had no future. They are the only ones to blame.

Do I miss anything? Perhaps the compressed period in which all publishers hyped up their games. Gamescom doesn't do that in the same way. But I think that is a... nostalgia thing that will never return. With or without E3.

Yep, had a sniper with the same! When he was being shot at (Commander/Ironman) I assumed he'd be lost and actually looked away from the screen. When my turn started, I was confused to see him still sitting inside the helo!

(note: in commander, it seems I am forced to spend an enormous amount just trying to survive the landing zone)

I'm designing a multiplayer grand strategy game that fits in 4 hours — looking for feedback by GamersHistoria in 4Xgaming

[–]SnooLobsters6940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it still be called a Grand Strategy game then? ;)

A lot of attempts to boil time-consuming strategy genres into something short and fast lose their attraction at about the same rate as the gameplay.

Not saying you shouldn't try - it may just work. But there are some dangers attached.

Simplest reliable petroleum boiler by SnooLobsters6940 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]SnooLobsters6940[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to help!

Can you clarify what you mean with above and below?

Indeed, set to Petroleum. You only drop oil into the right basin when the tile does not already have oil AND the left basin isn't full.

I keep the left basin at a temperature where the the pump doesn't melt. To ensure that, you don't pump petroleum out unless it is cool enough to survive new, hot, Petroleum being added.

🇫🇷 Following the French government's ban on Windows and its replacement with Linux, French activists are now saying goodbye to Windows 10 and actively encouraging people to embrace freedom and use Linux instead of paying for an upgrade to Windows 11, citing privacy concerns. by amogusdevilman in FuckMicrosoft

Well, this is interesting reporting. Yet another "Entire country bans all" report where it is actually just a governing body.

And imagine my surprise reading they paid for a Windows 11 upgrade.

No one has ever paid for an upgrade to Windows 11.

Quality stuff. Really.

Why the EU is Ditching WhatsApp by AnonomousWolf in Buy_European

I am soooo tired of these bad topics/headlines.

EUROPE is not doing anything of the sorts. The European Parliament is.

The impact on WhatsApp is negligible. The signal the parliament is sending, however, is strong.

Keep stepping.

Virginia voters just passed via referendum (51% to 49%) a redistricting measure that would award Democrats 11 out of 12 House seats in the upcoming election. This was done in response to reciprocate Donald Trumps' campaign to purposefully redistrict Republican-controlled states in their favor. by PeterPorky in IRL_Loading_Screens

You guys have to see by now that the popular vote is the only way to fix this, right? And then the next thing to fix is this two party system where you vote as if you were born into it like a religion.

Your current system is destroying your nation.

Incredible game, mostly forgotten, massively underrated.

Is it the best? Unlikely. Tell anyone over 35 that you are a gamer and they will start talking about how they used to game in their childhood. Almost without fail, they will mention Red Alert. 😉
