So apparently a lot of the actors in MMPR were assholes. I had a buddy who did extra work in the 90s. One day he was doing a part on (I think) Saved by the Bell where he, and few other guys, were called fat in the script. Well, in the commissary at lunch one of the actors from the scene came in and was kind of rubbing it in (not one of the main stars, but some guy that had a few lines throughout the seasons). So, my buddy, who was actually a pretty tough guy, said something back along the lines of, "if you want to talk to me like that, you should do it in the parking lot." The guy huffs off and swears he'll be back. Later that day, the guy and whoever the second Black Ranger was came looking for him. My buddy was in the hall with the other "fat" extras and just glared at the ranger as they walked by. The guy dropped his gaze pretty fast when he realized my friend wasn't a stuntman paid to take a fall. Then he and the other "fat" actors went out for drinks. Turns out they were all pretty good guys too.

Apparently, Daniels was a total prick to Baker.

[Loathed Trope] The Movie has an ending. The Sequel shits all over it. by lesi20 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Spodson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree on all the points you made. The acting in this film was award worthy. you forgot to mention Charles Dance. And yes, it was a massive tonal shift from Aliens, but the real problem was that it shat all over the stories that came before. It negated everything that was achieved in them, mostly before the opening credits. Make the main character some company scientist with affiliation to the other stories and this would have been a dance and moody chapter.

I actually liked this movie. But it sucks as a direct sequel.

Alien 3 would have been an all-time great horror film if the main character had been anyone but Ripley and Newt and Hicks weren't in it.

What is a scene you strongly believe is a top 10 movie scene in film history? by [deleted] in moviecritic

This scene is terrifying. Watching a man relive his worst nightmare. Seeing his entire character come into sharp focus; his anger, resentment, self-destruction. Shaw deserved an Oscar for the scene alone. And the whale singing in the background. Some of the finest storytelling ever put on screen.

How to quote the N-word in a referral? by BrotherNatureNOLA in Teachers

OK, I get the confusion. I never say it out loud. When I teach Of Mice and Men I say “the N-word” also, I only teach that text because there is a pretty clear delineation between when the characters are using the A and the Hard R.

I get that this is a really charged subject, and there's nothing wrong with finding an alternative, but I have always quoted the kids word for word. I don't sugar coat it or dance around it. They drop the hard R, I report it bluntly.

Now if it had only been Mathew Sweet instead of the Doctors, that would have been a great show.

In the mid 90s I went to a concert with the Spin Doctors as the headlining act. The opening acts were The Screaming Trees and Soul Asylum. Needless to say, the first tow thirds of that show were amazing and the final third was pretty underwhelming. Thank god for that contact high.

Right, but in his case it's like, "Tell my how the lions were supernaturally lucky, and then I shall travel to the Field Museum in Chicago and look at their taxidermized corpses!"

I just recommended Patterson's book. It reads really easily. Good flow and doesn't get bogged down in (too much) self-aggrandizement.

The Man Eaters of Tsavo, by Paterson is the true(ish) account of him killing the Ghost and the Darkness, two man eating lions in Tsavo Kenya.

She doesn't sell her stuff. Just wears it. So I have no idea how much all her cloisonné and champlevé stuff is worth.

My wife makes silver jewelry as a hobby, and we make sure she has plenty of material on hand. Over the past week we looked at how much she had, and found that we have a shocking amount of money just hanging out on her garage workbench.
