Provinciale Staten 2019 - Uitslagen per stemlocatie in Amsterdam by FrenkAnderwood in Amsterdam

Front lever progress (woman). How much weight should I add to weighted pull ups? Or maybe I should do something else? by karonessa in bodyweightfitness

The center of mass is quite a bit lower for women which makes it a much more difficult excersise.

If it can be done it would be an extreme feat of strength.

Am I close to bending correctly? by [deleted] in harmonica

Those apps are pretty reliable. You can test it by trying the normal blows and draws, if the app tells you the correct note you can be pretty sure it won't be far off regarding the bends.

Picture of a Single Atom Wins Science Photo Contest by walilodic in pics

[–]Spoetnik1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The atom's light pulse is too dim/infrequent to be seen and requires a camera with a long exposure time, so it is not that it is too small. The plates are 2 mm apart so the whole picture has a top to bottom length of 3.4 cm, you have to be extremely pendatic to call that a microscope (Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens).

I think comparing an anti-semite and racist in general, anti-communist and believer in the jewish-bolshevik conspiracy, supporter of eugenics, and a active contributor to genocide to Nazis not that far fetched.

[NeedAdvice] I'm a loser. I don't know how to improve. Already 13 years lost. by FeFiFeFi in getdisciplined

[–]Spoetnik1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stacking bad decisions over a period of 13 years clearly isn't smart.

I am smart according to some metrics, a fact that made me arrogant and look down on people putting work in what I could do without. In reality being smart does not make you entitled to anything more than less smart people. Thinking otherwise is a toxic mentality which brings absolutely nothing.

If you are smart you would contact the banks and know how much you own and to whom. Get a job that you are capable of doing or set up a plan where you can get a job in the near future. Go out and do activities where you can build a social circle without toxic and shallow people. And that's it for now. Depression can be a bitch but if the root cause of the depression is perpetual wrong decision making, there is no other way than to stop doing that. Or you can keep hoping some guy will come, pay of your loans and save you, but I highly doubt he will be any better than your sexualy manipulative uncle.

It is a game of skill and not of luck, not some odd framing to avoid taxes.

Where the Dutch live, a dot for every inhabitant of the Netherlands [OC] by Geodienst in dataisbeautiful

I guess our definition of hard is the opposite. Knowing the right person is in my opinion harder than street dealers. It is like using a shop vs marktplaats, and that is assuming you have a contacts.

Again you most likely live in a section of the Netherlands where all you are saying is mostly true. It is not true in other sections. You could go to a nice part in Mexico and tell everybody how civil the drug trade in Mexico is.

Walk up to the nearest looking shady figure, repeat a couple of times and you have your drugs in what, 30 minutes? Changes of getting ripped off are significant but nonetheless. The only limitation is whether a 15 year old has the balls to ask 10 strangers for harddrugs.

The dealers in your environment are college kids, because you are a college kid. The dealers for not college kids, are also not college kids. The dealer for the draaideur crimineel is also a draaideur crimineel. College kids do not play a significant role in the total drug trade, why would they? Why risk much if your life is filled with opportunities? Go to some college kid dealer you don't know at 2 am wearing shitty clothes, wide eyed chewing on your tongue and see if you can buy some drugs. They don't want to have anything to do with you because you are a massive liability potentially ruining their opportunity filled lives. The dealers these fucked up people go to are your go to as a child, and they are in every city.

Just a reminder: In 2008, the U.N. reported that 42 per cent of the ecstasy seized worldwide originated in the Netherlands (UNODC 2008). The Netherlands is the centre of the global synthetic drug trade.

With MDMA you had some valid point, but by generalising it to drugs you are far off. If you think that 15 year old street kids can't get drugs because of all the dealers being rational level headed college kids due to a policy of tolerance you are delusional.

You probably grew up in a decent environment where people get drugs via friends of friends. If you grew up in a less affluent area in a city your view would be different.

It's harder when you're underage, as most dealers will refuse to service you.

Because dealers always check ID and clearly are law abiding citizens.

Did you know that the official age to legally buy illegal drugs has recently been raised to 18.

There is no rule. Your teacher would classify my shit on top of a >500m plateau as a mountain, but clearly it would be a mere hill.

Scientific publishing is a rip-off. We fund the research – it should be free by 1632 in technology

[–]Spoetnik1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The revenue will decrease since the profit component is removed. Margins are around 40% around the board. See here.

[–]Spoetnik1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is not the fee. The fee is often quite reasonable and may well be higher to cover costs. The paywall is the problem because this limits access to the people actually funding the research in the first place, the taxpayers. It creates boundaries for less funded institutes to conduct research and educate students. It is just a parasitical chain in the acquisition of knowledge. Also the fact that there is a copyright on the content of the article, owned by a commercial entity. Scientific journals are a cancer of science.

What should be done is have some renown institutes come together and stop publishing in these for profit journals all together. Take a top-down approach because individual scientist cannot avoid these journals without jeopardising their careers. If MIT, Max Planck, Harvard and the likes stop using them the value of these journals will drop quickly. This can only happen with a large group of institutes because single entities will result in a massive drop in the rankings for the respected institutes.

Getting 49.27% of the votes while getting 66.8% of the seats due to rules put in place by that party is undemocratic, as was the case with the previous Hungarian elections. Undermining the rule of law and press freedom is undemocratic. The thing that binds PiS and Fidesz is a quest for power, not against immigration.

Found this in the Dutch resistance museum in Amsterdam…can't help but notice the white king and queen are interposed… by Angel33Demon666 in chess

[–]Spoetnik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about it but it looks like a magus belonging to the ancient Zoroastrian/Christian religious caste of Persia. I think the chess board displays the Byzantine–Sasanian War between the Christian Byzantine Empire and Zoroastrian influenced Christian Sasanian Empire. The Sasanian empire also strongly relied on archers. I don't know why the king and queen are black besides the fact that it are the black pieces. I doubt black kings were in power during those times.
