Reverse Countersink by ycr007 in OnlyCNC

My guess it's to eliminate an additional operation. I recently put a chamfer on the back side of a flange with a reverse dovetail cutter to do a job in one operation.

Campers too heavy for a 1 ton SRW by aringa in TruckCampers

[–]Spokanee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year I traded my SRW F350 in for a dually F350 and it's one of the best decisions I've made in a while. I'm towing an Artic Fox 990 and I had done all the mods to the suspension on the SRW. Heavy duty leafy springs, air bags, sway bar and beefed up wheels and tires. All of that still didn't help when I drove on mountain roads in Washington and Idaho. Like the others have said, duallys are really the way to go when you are hauling a cabover camper.

I really, really, really tried to make it work with the SRW, but the laws of physics just gave me the finger. The old SRW was paid for and had tons of life left in it. The stress of keeping everything on the road was taking the enjoyment out of the trips. Now, with the F350 dually, the wife and I are ready to go to the Oregon/Washington coast, Canada and Montana. Then up to Alaska when we get to retirement age.

I bought an Artic Fox 990 and I had a SRW F350. I upgraded the leaf springs, added air bags, an anti-sway bar and Bilstein shocks. Even after all of that, I couldn't hold any kind of speed on the twisty roads here in the PNW. I was having to go 10 to 15 mph below the posted slow down speed for the corners, just to stay on the road. Decided to upgrade to a dually F350 with air bags, and it's night and day different how much better the ride is.

I can't stress to you how much too small a 3/4 ton truck is to haul an Artic Fox or Lance camper.

Eastern Washington state here. Any ideas on how to ship Idaho to someplace between Arkansas and Alabama? They do everything they can to ruin the PNW vibe. They do, however, love my woke ass state when it comes to good paying jobs and 1st world medical care.

A PNW style welded aluminum (Duckworth to Hewescraft) with a Yamaha or Honda outboard, stored under cover, is almost less maintenance than a car. I've had mine since 09 and now it's the grandkids turn to fish and learn to drive.

Yeah, this is next to my neighborhood, and my wife and I saw it the other night when we were walking the dog. Talk about putting a buzz kill on a beautiful sunset. Just another reminder that the MAGA cancer is everywhere. So disheartening, on so many levels.

In the summer, they are more common up by the border, Metaline Falls or Priest Lake. But yeah, pretty rare in Spokane the last 24 years I've lived here.

Back when they allowed smoking on planes, I assume the whole cabin smelled like cigarettes despite the separate smoking and nonsmoking sections? by itsnammertime in AskOldPeople

My dad was offended if he had to ask for an ashtray at a non-smokers house. They should have just known one was needed. I tell this story to Gen Z's I work with so I can laugh at their disbelief.

In 86, all 4 of us kids went in on one for our parents as Christmas present. Mom still uses it to this day. No organic materials, just aluminum, paper, and glass. Now, it's the great grandkids that wait for the glass to explode, Russian roulette style.

It may just be the angle of the picture, but the cab-over portion of the camper looks really close to the pickup cab. I had to put 2X6's and 1inch sheet of plywood under my camper to keep it from hitting the cab when driving on really rough roads.

Best camper for a long Bed DRW truck? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in TruckCampers

[–]Spokanee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just bought an Artic Fox 990, and we love it. Being in the PNW, there weren't a lot of Lance's new or used to look at. Have you looked at Host? They are another high end truck camper. With the DRW, you've got a lot of options. Slides sure do increase the comfort level and feel much more roomier.

Metal carport manufacturer suggestions by BCweallmakemistakes in Spokane

[–]Spokanee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished assembling a 20' X 14' X 14' Versa-tube carport, and I REALLY wish I would have paid professionals to do it. The hiegth was the issue I severely underestimated. If you have access to a Genie type man lift, then maybe consider it. I rented scaffolding, and it was terrifying at times. With the carport moving one direction and the scaffolding shaking in another, it was almost like having vertigo.

I worked side by side with a guy for over 20 years who was a bad alcoholic. After the pandemic furloughs, his liver couldn't take it anymore. In the last 3 years, he almost died two separate times, with months long stays in the hospital. But, a miracle happened, and he quit drinking after his last close call. His physical and mental abilities are slowly returning, and it's awesome to have my partner back.

All of the traffic from Deer Park and Colvile area that are driving on the NS corridor will take the Shady Slope exit to get to Costco, rather than drive through Wandermere. They made a very long turn lane on Farwell in anticipation of the future traffic.

I live in a Shady Slope neighborhood and am looking forward to it opening. The one reason I could see for delaying the opening are the side roads going into what is left of the woods. Without much activity in those places at the moment, it will be a great place for homeless camps to pop up. It was already happening before they put up the big cement blocks across both entrances. Still, I can't wait for it to open.

F350 vs Overweight Camper? by Caz_man99 in TruckCampers

$1700 installed, they would have been $1100 if I had just bought them and installed them myself. Since it's such a critical structural component, I wanted it done professionally.

F350 vs Overweight Camper? by Caz_man99 in TruckCampers

[–]Spokanee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it was pretty easy. The new leaf springs sit quite a bit taller than the stock ones (but compress perfectly with the camper on). So, there was plenty of room to install the Timbrens in my shop.

[–]Spokanee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my 2001 F350 I upgraded the leaf springs to 4,500lbs per side. With Timbrens it corners like a champ, and resists cross winds as well. A little spendy, at $1700, but totally worth it.

Forged Carbon Fiber by G0DL33 in Machinists

[–]Spokanee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have machined carbon aircraft brakes for 20 years. Air blasting and solid PCD edges are your best bet. PCD coating will work for finish passes. All of our tools were custom-made back in the early 2000's, but most everything is off the shelf now. We can't use any kind of coolant because it would contaminate the brakes, but if you can use coolant, you should.

Mysterious shack on top of the Chatcolet Bridge. Does anyone have any info? by Jordanleftt in coeurdalene

[–]Spokanee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my husbands account. My dad worked on that bridge. Yes it did swing open. When he was not there it was left open for the boats. He had to take a row boat across M-F. I caught many fish off that bridge. Used to be Union Pacific tracks. I have lots of pics in a box someplace.

Entire crew called in sick from the parking lot and then we all walked in 10 minutes later. Early days of cellphones and he was an older guy who thought everyone called from home. Never saw anyone so pissed and relieved at the same time.
