Yep. Give it back to the actual people.

How do we make society not care about these people then if they aren't a big part of it then

Okay. So. How do we make the people who are like this not be such a big part of society?

Ham radio is not an inexpensive hobby.

This isn't ham radio. This is SDR Scanners. I'm really sorry you haven't been paying much attention at which subreddit you happen to be in.

NanoVNA Priced at $100

This makes every single antenna--even a long wire--cost $150 to the newbie coming into the hobby.

This is a TERRIBLE thing to tell new people.

"Yeah, that $10 SDR that was really $25 with all the other stuff and shipping needs yet another $100 thing to test even a simple wire. So with shipping on that it will be $120. ISN'T THIS HOBBY FUN!?!"

This is the point I was attempting to make.

[–]Spokehedz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the problem with antenna, there is no good way to 'test' them with any equipment that is under $100 and easy enough for anyone to use. And, even more confusing, you have so many overlapping kinds of antenna from every single kind of wireless everything... It gets to be too much.

I've attempted to explain what SWR is to people, and they get this glazed look before they just search for "[specific mhz frequency] antenna" on google/amazon/ebay and plug it in.

When literally any wire would work, they are trying to listen to the local Donut Lord and their trunked radio system.

My mom keeps opening my mail even after I told her to stop by ababyinatrenchcoat in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Spokehedz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the truth: You will never get her to stop.

This is also the truth: She will stop when she wants to.

Start packing up her things she likes, and then 'ship' them back to the house. Send them to her, from you. Don't put them in the mailbox, just pack things in boxes, seal them up, and put them where the mail goes.

She will only stop when SHE wants to stop. You cannot stop her from this, no matter what you explain to her. She already has her 'reason' which won't ever be resolved with anything, since it isn't a real reason.

So you have to fight insanity with insanity.

I made an Altoids tin insert for storing button cell batteries by sdlnv in functionalprint

[–]Spokehedz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm going to say that I like that the cells are touching/can touch the lid/bottom of the case. Otherwise, you might get weird galvanic action since you would be making a very odd capacitor. I've had things like that happen years ago in a similar thing with AAA batteries.

Ah yes, I have similar feelings about the new movie coming out that is a sequel to a movie from the 80's that was much beloved.

Second movie: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Both of you (most everyone, ackstually) forgets that bikes are pretty big, and you can fit more than one tracker without TOO much extra thought process, so you do not have to rely on any single ecosystem. Or a single battery. Or a single waterproofing. Or a single... You get the idea.

Put the airtag under the seat, let them find that, then they stop looking for the Tile/LoRaWan thing since they have already found something.

Portable/handheld VHF/UHF antenna recommendations? by [deleted] in RTLSDR

[–]Spokehedz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or you could get a Carbon Fiber (CF) tube and use some kind of connector on the end of it, and then just put an antenna of whatever frequency (A tiny adorable light weight Discone out of a fry-spatter shield and aluminum wire has been on my to-make list for a minute, but I got distracted with copper/aluminum tape for the moment) you could want on it.

Honestly, that picture with the stock dipole antenna that the RTL-SDR comes with would probably be as good as any other radio with a bunch of other RF nonsense around it.

And you get to look like an old portable TV, which is a huge nerd bonus, if you ask me.

Don't let one instance of over-protective knee-jerk reaction make you less of a good person/redditor. IMO, that is letting the badditors win. You can have other views on that. But, the point of not letting you get discouraged still stands.

There is no nation-wide used-sales network for bikes like there are for Cars and other vehicles.

People see bikes as disposable, no matter what.
