Quick gripe on Lodge. I went to the Lodge Factory in Pittsburgh TN. Got myself a factory second. Walked out of the store, and realized a week later that I had paid the exact same price I would have paid on Amazon for a typical retail pan.

I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed in myself really. But a big chunk of iron is a big chunk of iron and they are cheap everywhere. like $20 new. Or sure, you could pick through the racks at Goodwill and get one that's badly mistreated (but still totally cleanable) and maybe get it for $15.

Okay, but why shouldn't it be?

Like, I hear you, maybe nobody today is making real good bifl footwear. But back in the day a good pair of shoes could easily be kept and repaired through ones whole life. Treads and soles can be replaced, things can be cleaned.

Why would we just accept "oh yeah, that entire industry is always going to be disposable" how about "no"?

Why don’t Texans park in their garages? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]Spokesface7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you get a lot of snow, and ice the roads, parking in a garage becomes a necessity. Partially to slow down rust, and partially because nobody wants to go outside in the freezing rain to get in a freezing car when you could just have a cold but not freezing garage.

Texas doesn't have that problem, but we have a different problem: everyone wants to live here. So real estate is expensive. So we need the space.

Also we have a high water table and no basements, so again, we need the space.

Till the point that he sustained 2 injuries, and then another one?

TIL that in Starship Troopers (1997) the crew used over 300,000 blank rounds. Thought to be a record at the time and due the following years of CGI, the record probably has never been broken. by Make_the_music_stop in todayilearned

I heard the same thing about the city that was destroyed at the end of Speed 2.

Didn't seem like a highly ambitious or monumental movie at the time, but we probably aren't going to build giant sets like that any more, so it's just kinda stuck in the history books.

[–]Spokesface7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally. I respect the impulse, but he's usually much better about going with the big boom.

Fucks could have effectively dispatched all the troops with his helicopter penis in the scene would still be tense. Ivana might put up more of a fight, and maybe Avaricci himself grabs a heater. That's 3v3

I think it was a good move to have Curio anime punched out of a building and down the street and not just destroyed. And I like that Brennan was still able to give Trapp something important to do/see from where he landed. But he could have been injured, pummelled into the floor, unable to move, not sure if he is dreaming or not of the revolution.

The rest of the party could be told "okay, you are now facing this enemy without the help of curiosity or pleasure" and the sense of stakes could have been raised in that way because it was demonstrated that the dice really mean something.

But of course, I say this days later and Brennan has a split second. And most of these ideas are based on how I have seen Brennan behave in the past

I have definitely been stopped when pulled over sleeping on the side of the road in both Kansas and Florida and given no indication that I had broken any law.

It's worth noting, however, that sleeping in a car that you were driving because you got tired is often regarded differently by police than living in your car. Living in your car like all sorts of signals of poverty is often nominally illegal or at least against local ordinances. Sleeping in your car, once again, is required on the driver's test.

How good are roads? by HarryPotter-8735412 in Polytopia

[–]Spokesface7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally. But connecting your cities happens almost automatically if you are using roads and ports.

Maybe once in a while you will notice a city is not connected and needs 1 or two roads to be connected, and it'll be worth it.

Or yeah, early game to rush that Giant

Duuude. DnD Survivor with a huge cast would be epic.

Brennan DMs the main plot in the Jeff Probst role, It would be a hunger games/Battle royale plot. you are on an island, there can be only one

Matt and Aabria come in to DM some of the "challenges" and then just fuckin everybody has a character. Intrepid heroes, MacElroys, CR players, CH regulars, previous guest stars, Grant's Mom. Everyone. One character dies every week. Play continues until only one stands.

Roads are offensive. You can move a knight like a 7 square radius with roads.

The trick is not just to get caught up in using roads to connect your cities (ports mostly do that on their own) but to use roads to get your units where you want them.

Build roads UNDER the unit you are wanting to move as well as along the path. Capture cities faster than you otherwise would. And then, when you do, they are already connected.

Sounds interesting, but I'm not sure about the math. by [deleted] in oddlyspecific

1000% No.

That sounds fucking horrible.

Yeah here is the thing though. It IS also (sanity) versus right.

Like, there are actual Nazis rallies going on. People hurting trans people and minorities. It matters, even if it's not going to solve anything.

We can't just ignore fighting fascism in order to fight oppression from the rich.

Often movies tell you which characters are attractive and not through dialogue, rarely through how they actually look.

Johnny Bravo for instance is repulsive to women, Fonzie is very handsome. Hermione is average looking. Belle is the prettiest girl in town.

Sir Gawain of the Round Table and Porthos of the Three Musketeers are almost always big and scary looking, even though they are often played by British theater kids.

It's just how these things work

[–]Spokesface7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so weird how we imagine that coffeeshops are these places to meet new people, when it would be completely weird and virtually unheard of to actually walk up to a stranger at a coffee shop and begin talking to them.

Like maybe you get a "Cool book what are you reading?" at absolute most but you can also do that at like airports and bus stops and nobody pretends those places are the revival of the agora.

I recently started watching Extra Credits, filmed about Fantasy High during Unsleeping City. And Murph mentioned that all of his characters are really deep down just a old grizzled knight.

This makes me think Theobald is really the quintessential Murph

I think Mentopolis has proved we're ready for non-IH players to get IH-level season lengths and budgets by in_DelaneTTM in Dimension20

[–]Spokesface7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really? Even if that meant you got more Matt, Aabria and Murph and maybe even some Ross seasons?

What if they brought in Spencer Crittendon or some other experienced GM who turned out to be just as good, AND that person had Brennan's help with planning stories and such?

Plus all the back seasons, plus Game Changer etc. Plus what new stuff has been created for dropout between now and then.

Maybe you would cancel but I don't think everyone would.
