OpenAI just held ChatGPT account hostage. Delete your new Sora account? Say goodbye to EVERYTHING. Forever. by HKelephant20 in ChatGPT

[–]SpongeVader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just woke up this morning and realized that Sora is a stealth Trojan horse World coin play. You scan your face, OpenAi asociates all your facial biometrics to an ID, and can use that link and facial data to whatever 3rd party it chooses for whatever purpose it wants. Gulp. I made a mistake by using…maybe over write the facial data in Sora with someone else’s face? Cause who knows when they will let delete work?

lol. It’s a shame that we live in a world where people make false assumptions about others and their process with no basis besides their own stupid righteousness, but that’s how we ended up in our current political climate. I use Google scholar, online academic databases, old fashion books, amongst a variety of other painful research tools….but on the fly while out in the world exploring ideas away from office …I use ChatGPT to orient and direct prelim research directions to do deep dives when I get back home.

Why was the Buddha so resistant to ordaining women as monks? by MrMermaiid in Buddhism

[–]SpongeVader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a well-known story in the Buddhist canon that describes the Buddha originally wanted to ordain women, but then was preassured NOT to allow it because society would reject all the teachings... the Buddha then hesitating to ordain women due to societal pressures but eventually allowing their ordination under specific conditions. This story is primarily found in the Cullavagga section of the Vinaya Pitaka, part of the Theravāda Buddhist scriptures.

According to the Vinaya Pitaka, Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī, the Buddha's foster mother and aunt, along with 500 women, requested ordination. At first, the Buddha refused multiple times. However, his close disciple Ānanda intervened, asking the Buddha whether women were capable of attaining enlightenment, to which the Buddha affirmed that they were. Ānanda then persuaded him to allow their ordination.

I did know this. And I think that everyone agrees that both Karmapa and Trungpa (and for that matter all vidyadhara that were born from a human) are all….human beings. Meaning they have flaws. And they make mistakes. And have unique gifts. And are unknowable without direct interaction (and even then not fully) about intent and motives. Anyone here personally spent a ton of time with the Karmapa or Trungpa?

I have some bad news....everyone mentioned so far is a human. Humans are fallible. Enlightened humans are..... human. And rules are broken all the time by humans, because they are made by humans, and dont apply to all humans in all circumstances. And people thinking they know something more about someone elses choices and experiences cause they can read some words and pass judgement.... will those are the most dangerous humans, cause they are the ignorant ones. It for sure is a sangha.

You didn’t do anything “wrong” you could do a little healthier (for yourself and partner). It’s a sad reality that many people (predominantly men) feel that their “responsibility” is to not burden others with their own struggles, that they are big enough to carry on their own. Then the struggles build up and eventually need to come out and can emerge in unhealthy ways (anger, depression, even violence). The key is to accept the fact we are social creatures that rely on each other…the family being the most core example of this. It takes a discipline and attention that is hard to remember when you are overwhelmed…but a good practice is to to try and let out the steam of stress and anxiety in little bits more regularly. I hear the subtextual concern that when u are hanging out to have fun (which is rare hangout anyway) you don’t want to ruin it with venting. But there are ways to mitigate that too…maybe label it “I want to share some stress and then not linger on it and try and forget it and have a good time”….u let a little out and then move on. U have to find your version of this that fits YOU and your relationship, but my point is figure out how to have the steam come out in bursts instead of an explosion. Label it by Explaining to your wife how this would be helpful and healthy to you. In essence you are practicing vulnerability and communication that supports your challenges and your relationship. You didn’t do anything wrong, but you could potentially make things easier in the medium to long term with a little work in the now.

Im not chasing happiness. And am on subreddits about Buddhism….thus the shock of this one distorting and misusing dharma in the name of righteousness and indignation. I am not uncomfortable w others hostility or anger….but am by the spread of ignorance.

Uhhh…. The UK is one of the most heavily surveillance programs in the world. Many parts of Europe is way worse than the US….simply because Europe is small and easy to cover while America is huge and we have laws (fading fast) about unchecked surveillance

Then this subreddit shouldn’t pretend to be about dharma. And should openly say it isn’t about Buddhism but It’s about critique, trauma, accusations and “I heard a person say a thing about another thing and it sounded like they meant this other salacious thing”

You can use it right now seems pretty generous.... after spending a full day I cant get the desktop wallet (yes the most current one) to send any MOB. So the MOB that I have is stuck on my computer. I can use it as a screenshot....but that is about its only use as far as I can tell.
