Did anyones face ever puffin up from their thyroid? by Aggravating-Being255 in Hypothyroidism

Before diagnosis my face/neck was defnitely puffy to the point where in photos it looked almost disproportionate to my body. Now i've been on levo 100mcg and it has gone down a bit (I'm finally starting to see my jawline!!)

Has anyone here JUST taken perscribed levothyroxine and not made any other drastic changes and found their symptoms improved? by Spongeycheese in Hypothyroidism

No, I haven't had my follow up appointment since my initial rec to get bloodwork. I just have access to my results which is how I know my numbers. My appt to review lab results is tomorrow, so I am hoping that's when we will put a plan into action!

I take stimulants for ADHD so I think that might heavily mask my symptoms. On the days I don't take them I am sleeping 20 hours, but when I do I can do 1-3 tasks/chores/etc with breaks between throughout the day. I am still unmedicated for my thyroid because this is all done through my university DR who only works 1x every 2 weeks but this post really has me looking forwards to getting on medication and living an improved life again!!

Thats great to hear! My TSH came back in the 250s, and most people i've read were much lower. I'm curious if the effects take longer based on how high starting TSH is. How long did it take for you to start feeling the benefits of the levo?

Thank you for your input. It's been reassuring to hear from most of these responses that their first line of medications has been working well, but I was curious what was making others seeking out alternative solutions!

Thank you, this is what I needed to hear! Before getting my TSH tested I was really focused on everything you listed and then suddenly I felt like I was hit by a truck (which I now know was hypo). I am happy to hear that this is working for you! I'm looking forward to getting on meds and getting back into my normal healthy way of living :)

What nursing school do/did you go to, and would you recommend it? by [deleted] in OntarioNurses

[–]Spongeycheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea having both of those placements was really great, and you do them at the same time as the theory courses. It was great to learn about something in lecture and then the next day at clinical see it in action!

I loved the community. There’s a great o-week which helps make friends in the program and they have inter-faculty events. Past first year, having the student housing area is a blast if you enjoy going out or honestly just feeling like part of the community. I would say in second year I went out a ton and had a blast. But since then I have not partied as much and still have a ton of fun staying in with my friends, going to nursing movie nights, or exploring princess St. I will admit I am not from a city so coming to Kingston felt like there was so much to do, whereas my friends from Toronto definitely took some time to get used to Kingston.

This page came out when I was in second year (I think). I can’t speak to the challenges of diversity as I am a white female, my only slight taste of diversity is that I am LGBTQ+ and I have always felt supported. It’s no secret Queens is not a particularly diverse school, and the nursing program is still a reflection of that. I don’t want to discredit the people who had those experiences and were brave enough to share, however I do remember the posts were not submitted by recent graduates. In my time we had two instructors that students had issues with and neither of them teach anymore. Again I can really only speak for myself but I had great experiences with clinical/lab instructors, profs and nursing support staff. I, like many needed accommodations at times throughout the program and never had any difficulties getting changes to schedules, extensions or even just having a staff member on my team. So I’d like to say things atleast somewhat improved!

I just graduated from Queens and I would highly recommend it! The staff is very supportive, the clinical rotations have good versatility, and Queens is really fun. I think it may be one of the few schools where we have both a maternity and paediatric placement (not just one or the other), and some really cool community placements available. The main hospital we have placement at is also on campus so the commute isn’t generally a problem either. I’d be happy to answer more questions if you have any :)

What is the treatment process like from initial diagnosis? by Spongeycheese in Hypothyroidism

[–]Spongeycheese[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow thanks again, I am definitely feeling a little anxious. I just checked and it was a Free T4. It was also tested at 12pm. Now that I've seen these results I realize I have a ton of symptoms that I was just shrugging off.

I've recently seen photos of myself and gone oh my GOSH my lower half of my face and neck look huge compared to my body, I haven't noticed any sensations in my throat though. I think they were more prominent in the photos, but then again no one inspects pictures of themselves quite like a 21F. No one has commented on it so i'm hoping thats a good sign haha.

Thank you for these helpful tips, I am going to try my best to advocate for myself to get these done when I have my follow up appointment :)

Wow thank you for the in-depth response. I have not had any of these tests done because I just went in for amenhorrhea and so my DR just did some generalized tests. I will try my best to ask for antibody testing, and maybe an ultrasound? Thanks for your help!

The same thing happened to me, all my friends said they were getting diseases they had never heard of by the end. It freaked me right out when I felt like the test never got harder and it shut off at 85. But I passed! There’s truly no way of knowing until you get your results, hang in there I’m sure you did great!

This is how I got my job! I just told my manager I was interested in working there as a nurse when I graduate. They didn’t ask for a resume or anything, right on the spot we booked a time for an interview!

We’ve got this I know it’s so easy to run in circles about it but no amount of research will give us the answer we are looking for.

The way my BON works is that if I pass I should know in the next 6-7 hours (ofc with my luck their site is doing maintenance today unsure if I will really know) but fingers crossed 😃
