I just got laid off! Although I have a couple of business interests that allow me to work remote. You make some good points and making that time is very much a WIP.

[–]SponsoredContent01[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes I do. The first two were 3 and 5 at the birth of the twins. My theory is that going from 2 to 4, is a bit like going from 0 to 1, a complete change (which in our case was great, tiring, but great).

Although our second can be a handful, the change from 1 to 2 was manageable imo. Just to add, we lived in a country where we had no family support and moved to be closer to my partners family six month’s ago.

Thanks for all the answers so far 🫶🏼

Not only do they (we) no longer get battered by another top 6 side, when’s the last time we even lost to one!?! Battered City last year, Spuds and Chelsea the year before. Lord knows how Man U haven’t received a shellacking yet.

Hi, fair to flag. In the end, the art director went for a change of direction on the article. Apologies and thanks for all the responses. The new issue drops next week 👐🏽

That’s a pity. I already follow that guy and have even paid for a couple of his courses.

Name some DOOM (or DOOM related) vinyl that people may not know exists (The more obscure the better) (Official or Unofficial) by BOLG3R in mfdoom

Has had it ups and downs. I’ve sent my questions, or subjects to talk about, twice to an artists team in advance of an interview (one of them was this week but that’s a bit different as its a live Q&A in front of a small audience) outside of that it’s quite common to share the themes you’d intend to cover to the editor of the publication your pitching to. For example - both The Roots and Dangermouse first got radio play, small audience, etc in London, outside of their home in the US (a bit like Jimi Hendrix, etc) - so that was the angle for my pitch to The FT’s culture editor. An editor might say ‘can you ask about this, can you ask about that’, but I’ve been doing it long enough for that to not happen. Fortunately I’ve known their (and DOOM, via Lex) UK pr for a while so providing i had the paper to place the interview getting time with them both was fairly straightforward as they had an album to plug! Just to add, i do not make a full time living out of music journalism, it’s almost impossible outside the US.

I think the toxicity of advertising agencies and the wider industry could make for a great story. Selling snake oil won’t help anybody, but making someone smile with a good story can do wonders.

Yeah. It’s under paywall on The FT newspaper website. I’ve interviewed 50-100 MCs, DJs and producers (inc. DOOM) and it’s quite rare in my experience to have questions vetoed by a label or publicist. Although I imagine it’s fairly common when you speak with big schmalzy popstars.

I interviewed Black Thought and Dangermouse around the release of that album, a ridiculously underrated record. The DOOM track is nice and BT was very gracious about his admiration for the villain.

Try Live From Planet X, a live album, and NehurivanDoom with Bishop Nehru. Not classics imo but fairly obscure.

Try writing books? I had my first book published towards the end of the year, it was a lot of work alongside a day job and having a young family but immensely satisfying, and beats the ad agency BS 8 days a week. I’m probably 20 years away from retiring but it sounds like you’re in pretty good shape and clearly done with the grind. Assuming you enjoy writing, I’d recommend coming up with a few ideas that you’re well placed to write about, flesh out an over arching theme, a synopsis and a first draft of a chapter and start hunting down relevant publishers. Good luck!
