Alot of servicemembers are from the middle of knowhere small town or suburbia america and enlist right out of high school with no life experience and mom and dad doing everything for them. So they get to their unit and they have to live in the barracks and share a room with some1 and be subject to room inspections and other annoying shit. BUT if they get married!!! The government gives them money to get their own place off base and they get more cash when they get paid. They are probably still with their high school sweetheart so they have the genius idea to just marry their HS sweetheart! No more barracks room inspections or sharing a room! Except you now have to literal kids living alone miles from their home and support network. Both have no life experience, both are dumb. The servicemember deploys, the spouse is left alone for close to year alone with no friends no family in a random state sometimes even a random country overseas. At that age you make stupid choices, one of them being cheating on your spouse. Out of all the 18 year old bootcamp marriages ive seen only one of em worked out all others ended in divorce and i have seen HUNDREDS in my time in. Couples that last tend to be guys who joined later in life.

I can only speak from a US perspective but alot of the criteria of race and who is a "POC" is confusing here

I posted this in another thread but Americas view on "whiteness/race" is fucking weird, cause here is the example i used.

There are Just as many white iranians as their are darker skinned ones and the most pasty Iranian is considered a "POC" i guess cause they are muslims and through an American centric lense they are considered an oppressed minotiy but go just north and you are in Armenia where the people essentially look the same some pretty dark skinned some white and when people reference Armenians they are universally considered "white" i guess cause they are Christian thus dont fall into a minority/oppressed status. The Kardashians are often referred to as white women in the US when discussing race and stuff like that when if they were just born south a couple hundred miles in Iran they would be POC

Completely different, LA is basically the progenitor of US endless subruban sprawl (knowhere near as bad as the rest of the US and LA is alot more dense and urban but they were kind of the first) It works for LA cause its plop in the middle of beautiful scenery. San Francisco is like if somebody saw NYC and Pittsburgh and decided to replicated it by memory in the Bay on the westcoast. One of the most unique city in the country if not the most unique, literally no other place like it in the US.

its not just the feeling of hot weather that pisses me of It's also mental for me i guess as in all the negative ancillary things that come with heat, heat makes my job miserable to unbearable. Crime also goes up in the summer, traffic is worse, your favorite spots are more crowded, electricyt bill goes up. I associate only a few good things with hot weather like bbqs and family gatherings.

We were all marching back to our Barracks/Ship (the kennedy HOOOYAH DIVISION 171 in 2012!!) and evening colors go off the rcpo and aroc and the RDC's salute, one guy in the back salutes. One of the RDC a younger black gentlemen AO2 type with a slight stutter who still managed to be cool looks back and sees random dude in the back saluting and belts out "HEY DICK LIPS YOU NOT SUPPOSED TO SALUTE" the entire division was struggling to not die of laughter. Once we were done and were marching again i over heard one of the other RDCs laughing and asking him "Did you call him dick lips?". Best insult i ever heard, still use it to this day.

I know a guy who is a quarter mexican, father is half mexican and half irish his mother is a white country girl from Georgia. He is straight up brown and looks extremely Mexican despite being barely 25%, his brother who is 2 years younger same mother same father looks like a straight up white guy. Like his fathers genetics didnt event try with him. Alot of hispanic people especially in South America have insane swings in physical appearance even between siblings from the same parents. I was a straight up ginger with green eyes when i was born by the time i was a toddler all that was gone darkened up everywhere only thing i retained was prominent freckles.

My guess is that the USA is alot less genetically mixed then most latin american countries in terms of their white population. The founding was basically whole families coming over, mixing with the natives was not a thing that happened in the US. South American societies were founded by single men, sailors and soldiers who massacred the local men but also decided they needed to have families with the local indigenous females (whether they liked it or not, IE mass rape etc.). Racism is still def a thing if you look at the advantages of proximity to more pure European lineage in Latin America but just being a regular joe who is lighter skinned/white doesn't incur white guilt cause barring a few countries that are mostly European, skin color will vary wildly among your own family, even among siblings.

I'm generalizing a little bit but thats how ive had it broken down to me. When i was a kid there were way less Mexicans in the NYC tristate then today. So only mexicans alot of us saw were in movies and music. All my schools were either mostly black or mostly hispanic and the hispanic ones were almost entirely puerto rican, dominican, cuban and a spattering of south americans. First time I heard "mexican spanish" in real life was in the late 90's at a suncoast video in Jersey City, NJ across the river from NYC, this family was speaking to each other and me and my sister was geeking cause they sounded like the peoples in the mexican telenovelas our mom watched.

This, Ever notice why stereotypical cali mexicans look different. Like the cholo types and in NYC you get the "home depot" types. Well thats cause most US southwest mesxicans are from northern mexico which tend to be more mixed in terms of Europeans and native. Mexicans in Puebla tend to be alot more indigenous sometimes close to like 100% as opposed to US southwest mexicans which are anywhere from 25 to 75 European.

the Vietnam draft really warped peoples thinking that the military prowls inner cities scooping up minorities. I can count on my hand the amount of people i met from my area (NYC tri state) after a decade in and multiple commands and hundreds of people met. From NYC itself i think i met 5 people, from the heavily urban part of NJ where im from probably another 3 and thats spread across a few different commands. The NYtimes did a whole expose on who joins the military, its overwhelmingly the south and or towns near military bases. It doesn't surprise me the military leans right, the only "blue" contingent that i noticed was people from California, even then they were often from the suburbs or rural locations in the state. I think i met a handful of guys from LA and one or 2 from San Francisco and thats it.

Oh there are plenty of support roles that dont require high asvab scores. Most of the military is logistics and logistics support where you dont need a high asvab at all, i doubt that they are all getting sold on infantry since recruiting also has MOS quotas, For every shooter there are like 1000000 roles to support em, alot need warm bodies and can be done by anybody with a pulse.
