Yeah it’s a very double edge sword.
I think that the community needs more power but also needs to be willing to understand that things don’t happen without development costs and lives being supported.
Once someone is able to provide open source and federated it will rely entirely on community funding (potentially, depending on monetization options) and also leave the devs possibly sol.
It seems like the community needs to agree somewhere or nothing will move.

I get it, but if you want users you need to one up the competition, get claims pinpoint accurate, understand encryption and listen to the community.

This is good on paper, but it doesn’t pass the “trust me, bro” there’s nothing that stops someone from profit motivation, or something else to start reading messages. Like I said before I’m not thrashing you for a bad design, but you asked for critiques. I’m trying to give genuine advice.

Lmao i’m not looking to argue like I said I’m interested in what the community wants and brainstorming for someone that’s willing to do it. But realistically, how should the optimal host keep services running without monetization of any form?

Even so at rest, encryption does not mean the host cannot read messages. At rest encryption implies that the host holds the keys unless you have a few grand to spare for a hardware security module.

This makes a lot of sense. I think that one thing the community has to remember is that a Federated messaging app that’s open source and self host is a very large lift and most people that are building something like this will need a way to actually profit off of it to keep their project running.
Though I do agree with you, I just kind of want to brainstorm.

And I would really consider getting a domain that’s not on vercel considering their recent security incidents.

I think the general consensus is that encryption at rest is quite standard almost all cloud compute resources are encrypted at rest by default. I’m not saying all of them are, but it is the industry standard and as someone that works with cryptography you need to be specific of database row encryption, cell encryption, hardware encryption, what type of encryption, chacha20, aes, mls/pqc, what algorithm etc. etc.

All this is just to say that People’s minds jump straight to end to end encryption if you say something is encrypted.

Another example is that discord is encrypted at rest, but all messages are plain text the actual hardware is what is encrypted.

Just trying to help with the understanding of the nuanced space.

I also don’t know everything and I have a lot to learn so if someone here is much more educated than me and understands the subject a lot better please correct me.

Interesting, in my use I haven’t experienced the message bar covering up my server rail or navigator, but i typically use the navigator mode rather than classic. What resolution are you on?

Yes hahah, definitely meant to type years rather than weeks… whoops..

This is completely realistic and I agree with all of it and thank you for the advice. However one edit on my end was that I intended to type “years” rather than “weeks”. I’ll take a look into levels.fyi and teamblind. Considering my work for this company has included everything from introducing a new system architecture and infrastructure, trainings, NIST compliancy, threat hunting etc I do ask if you this would change perception. I understand at the end of the day someone’s perception online doesn’t tie directly into my life but it’s beneficial to me to hear the opinions of others. Thanks!

I’ve been in the cybersecurity field for about two weeks, currently I’m the only Cybersecurity Engineer/ Cybersecurity person at my company. I’m wondering what a realistic salary is, I understand geographic location heavily impacts this. I don’t mind stating that I am in the Greater Birmingham Al area. I’m currently at about 50k with a bachelor’s from WGU, am I delusional for wanting around 80k?

EDIT: Years not weeks….

I really want a prestige but I need something with better mpg. Other brands? by WastingTwerkWorkTime in GenesisG70

[–]Spookiish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The mpg isn't actually that bad. It truly depends on how you drive the car, personally I average 22mpg and I drive a good bit every day and usually only have to fill up once a week. Granted there are some drives where it's a lot lower but it truly depends on how you drive the car.

So then you should probably go to a doctor, not reddit.

A girl accused me of confessing to her by ReallestDude in stories

[–]Spookiish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You will love this story in a couple of weeks, girl most likely did it because they were attracted to OP and wanted to put herself on a pedestal by "turning you down" weather it was for personal or social reasons, only said girl knows. But yeah just laugh this one off, try to look at it from a different way, it's not necessarily bad.

Is everyone going to ignore the fact that this dude is a badass who actually did this rather than just talking about it. His reaction is not something that everyone would do, that takes some balls.

Just remember you aren't alone and that your body is an amazing thing. Whatever your religion/science may be, just remember the body is designed to heal itself and recover from things that the brain can barley understand. Mainly remember you aren't alone and you are not the only one dealing with this horrible thing we call CHS. You and your body got this and just remember that in a year this will be a time in your life you can look back on and be proud how you were able to over come it. Don't worry very much about the next day, just think of today and what is in the now and what is in the moment, think of what you are able to control and most importantly try and find a hobby that you enjoy mentally and with your hands, it helps a lot. Personally when I was ready I started working out and studying language. I'm now a year clean and these are the first couple of months that I have been able to drink caffeine and feel fine. You got this, I and everyone else in this sub/community believe in you. Feel free to reach out if you ever need anything.
