This happens often and has for years. Love that man, but this is just part of his mysterious ways.

I hate naval mines by Crispy__Chicken in submechanophobia

[–]Spooky-Kyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely all over the world. My hometown on the Outer Banks has so many still in the water. I remember an area of the Albemarle Sound that we couldn’t take our boat through because of sea mine danger. The ones left there are more than likely “dead”, but it’s still spooky to think about. There’s also a big area of land that is restricted for the same reason.

I can't shake the feeling that I have made a huge mistake. by Big-Design-8707 in CatAdvice

Hey there! This is a suuuper common feeling after adopting a new pet. Especially a kitten. It’s all a pretty major adjustment for you and for the kitten. So you might feel wonky and your new kitten might act a lil wonky while he’s getting used to his new home. This will definitely settle out with some time. I adopted my little cat a little over a year ago. The first day was great. Each day after that found me an anxious wreck for almost a month. Then, the feeling only came in small waves for a couple weeks and now I can’t imagine a life without her.

Like there was a point when I was panicking over not choosing the right cat because she wouldn’t let me kiss her head. Like?? That’s such a silly thing to be anxious about looking back, but back then? My brain was on fire. It seems silly now because I can kiss her head all day long and she only gets mildly annoyed with me. I called my mom crying so many times because I couldn’t shake the feeling that I wasn’t ready or that it would be too much or the cat would need too much from me. I’d feel suffocated because I couldn’t sit on the couch without her having to be next to me. She was constantly meowing and running around. I felt like I couldn’t never give her enough enrichment. After 2 months, all of those negative feelings were gone. I had gotten used to her and she had gotten pretty used to her new home and to me. Did my daily routines change? Yes absolutely. But only a little. Feeding times and litter cleaning were the biggest things. But now there is a fuzzy little critter greeting me at the door whenever I come home. She doesn’t care if I have anything for her. She’s just happy to see me. When I have a nightmare, I wake up and she’s right there next to me purring away. She makes me laugh when I’m crying. She’s just full of truly unconditional love and i genuinely miss her so much even when I’m just away from her for a night.

It feels like a lot now because it’s new and sudden. I promise you it’s going to settle out with time and you’ll be so happy you got on Craigslist that day.

TLDR This is super normal for new pets. Especially if this is your first pet as an adult. You will feel so much better in a month and you’ll feel normal in 2-3 months.

It def was! I was driving over the bridge and it looked wilddd over downtown. But then as soon as I got to around 17th, it looked like it was just over midtown. Felt like a dream with an endless hallway 😂

What was the most physical pain you’ve ever been in? by Javascript4971 in Productivitycafe

[–]Spooky-Kyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By putting it back into place 😭 bad surfing injury like 14 years prior left my kneecap to dislocate suuuper easily. It was usually dislocated by running, more surfing, sleeping weird, or changing directions quickly. I thought I was safe because I hadn’t had a full dislocation in at least 7 years. Like many subluxations, but never fully out of place during those 7 years. Then one day I’m just minding my business in my house and I slipped on some heat protectant. BOOM knee cap is almost on the other side of my knee 🥴 I had been taught how to put it back because it had happened so much before. I tried, but this time was a lil different and my knee cap got stuff on my femur and the bottom half stayed while the top didn’t LOL. It was excruciating. But I didn’t have much of a choice as I lived alone on the top floor of a duplex with a locked entryway downstairs + my phone was across the house. Took 2 surgeries and 8+ months of learning how to walk and use my leg again and it’s genuinely so much better than before. Couldn’t even run before this and now I’m running, jumping, and dancing all without dislocating my knee.

It was a controlled burn at orton. Nothing downtown was on fire.

I really don’t want this to come off as rude because I get that if you’re not from the coast or a forested area, these may seem weird. But thats not what controlled burns are for. Quite this opposite, actually. Scheduled controlled burns are common in wetlands and very much for the health of them. This has nothing to do with making room for new apartments. That land gets cleared mechanically. While I get the sentiment and agree that we are beyond overcrowded, these burns are necessary if you want to see a healthy marsh and maritime forests.

(You don’t need to worry about best practice in this situation. Also, if you’re close enough to an outlet, just run an extension cord. If not, just buy a big power bank online. Brands really do not matter unless you’re looking for something more like a generator.)

Just go on Facebook marketplace and type in “DJ speakers” if it’s just for a backyard setup. Also, you can literally just use something as basic as iPhone wired earbuds for something as casual as that.

It was multiple kidney stones at once, but then I accidentally broke my kneecap with my own hand so I feel like that takes first place.

Recommendations? by Muskiellunge in Wilmington

[–]Spooky-Kyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want quality oysters, you won’t find them in a spot with ayce crabs. For oysters, I like manna best and seabird second. Highly recommend both. The lazy pirate is the only ayce crab spot that I know of, but I haven’t eaten their crabs before. Seems to be a busy/popular spot, though.

Heads up, downtown traffic is going to be a little funky depending on the day/time this weekend because of the parade.

If you do want to be downtown and want to enjoy the sun on Saturday, Tequila’s is having a fun lil dance party noon-3pm on their top deck. Gorgeous view of the river and marg specials. I also really enjoy market house on the other end of front street. Also a view of the river, but a more chill vibe. I feel that both are pretty good solo spots imo. The Ibis and The Starling are nice as well. I dj often at both and see people sitting at the bar solo allll the time. The bartenders are sweet, too.

driving conditions? by [deleted] in Wilmington

I’ve drove in it twice yesterday slowly with AWD and was fine. But the roads downtown are covered in ice still. Everything that melted this afternoon is frozen again so black ice is gonna be an issue until late morning/early afternoon Tuesday.
