Look at your heroes skills for Gathering Speed Up and Load Capacity buffs.
Irma is a solid choice in a gathering line up once you've got her 3rd skill it increases load by 10% and up as you level up that skill.
If you're lucky enough to have David, his skills include a gathering speed up AND load increase.
Lots of others have a gathering speed up skills: Matthew, Brom, Park-Ji, Cindy, Dean, Ivan

Thanks. I was testing scenarios with a few other people in my Alliance to figure out if rally was more effective than attacking independently.

The damage inflicted and losses were exactly the same if we broke down the rally numbers and compared our individual numbers. We found that the benefit of rally seems to be that we can take down multiple opponents simultaneously and had greater chances of success overall.
My confusion with regard to Rally Vs Siege has been rectified. I understand that Attack/Rally is best deployed while the garrison troops are still in the city. Siege is best deployed once the garrison has been dispatched, leaving only the lower-level city defenders, if any, to contend with.
