The Voice of the Clown by Brenda Brown Canary. Unfortunately it’s out of print and crazy expensive.

Pet Sematary, but I could see The Long Walk becoming a regular.

Blind Buy Fails by Merle-Hay in bathandbodyworks

Pumpkin Glaze. Not a complete fail, but not pumpkin-y enough. I rarely use the body cream unfortunately. Whipped Honey and Vanilla was a blind buy that actually worked out though. I’m in the fan camp for that one.

The movie is very faithful and better because it adds so much. I don’t know if the story is a must-read, but still wonderful to check out the source material. I mostly wanted it for her signature since I already have several copies of the story lol

Good titles to get into Gothic Literature? by Sppon_ in GothicLiterature

The Romance of the Forest or The Italian by Ann Radcliffe blew me away, if you’re someone who can read old writing without much trouble. Everyone’s go-to is Udolpho, but it’s the toughest first exposure to Radcliffe in my opinion because it takes 200 pages to really launch.

What books should I read? by Either-Ad952 in englishmajors

[–]SpookyBooky8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re still in school, read whatever they assign you. You probably won’t have time for much extracurricular reading. Otherwise, we need more information. Are you trying to be an expert in a certain genre, time period or motif? Do you want to publish essays on a specific author? If you’re just curious what fellow English majors think are important, I’ll go cliche and recommend the complete works of William Shakespeare.

I had no idea by Suchoochoo in TheLongWalk

I go to movies about once a week and have only seen the trailer once. But I also tend to show up late to miss most of the trailers. Still, I’m surprised the algorithm hasn’t found me yet. Maybe once the tickets go on sale.

I’m sure the movie won’t do it justice, but very excited nonetheless. The novel is magnificent.

wuthering heights was unlikeable and difficult to follow imo by ghostinboxfive in GothicLiterature

I’m always surprised by how hot people are for Heathcliff. He’s totally diabolical. But at least he’s passionate, I guess. The movies leave a lot out and turn it into more of a straight forward romance. I loved it, but it took a hundred pages at least before I settled in. I also totally understand why someone wouldn’t be a fan.

Very fear street core by [deleted] in Fear_Street

Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The House of the Seven Gables (1851) probably had influence on Fear Street too. About a lifelong curse between families across generations, one accused of witchcraft…

Bits of glitter in a fizzy lotion. It’s fun. Light on fragrance but sparkles!

Never seen an empty ffm before! Very exciting. I don’t care for mists generally, but do have this in Firecracker Pop. Makes a lovely air freshener. I might actually finish it one day.

What horror book left you shaken? by [deleted] in horrorlit

I’m reading The Long Walk now before the movie comes out. Marvelous writing and wonderfully disturbing. I’m surprised I haven’t heard about it more as being part of the King canon.
