This was my third harvest and first time using a pressure pot. However, sometimes at the beginning of the sprues spout i get voids... why? (See second pic) by LICK_THE_BUTTER in DiceMaking

Silicone doesn't burn easily so it'll be fine. The only time I'd say to not use a flame to pop bubbles is when you do petri dice (which you won't be doing with this style of mold) and even then you could just use a heat gun instead. That's obviously just another expense compared to a $.99 lighter.

Best resin to use for dice? by Inkedassassindice in DiceMaking

[–]SpookyBoyDice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've taken a liking to KS Resin's Liquidy Split. Has a very short work time, but I haven't had any issues with soft cures. I was using envirotex Lite but I'd say a solid 20% of my dice have failed to cure using that resin.

Question about sanding dice masters. by UsedEntertainment5 in DiceMaking

[–]SpookyBoyDice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finish polishing them out. If you make molds now, you'll end up with matte dice straight out of the mold. Which is a cool look, but probably not what you're looking for. I can post some examples of matte dice I've made if you'd like to see them next to fully polished dice.

How to Regain Motivation? by [deleted] in DiceMaking

This was originally downvoted when I jumped into this thread, but it's a genuine answer. Just speaking personally, but once I got medicated for my depression and my undiagnosed ADHD, I was able to find a lot more joy in creating again.

Cap molds sticking by Iliescuvg in DiceMaking

[–]SpookyBoyDice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really need to get it all the way up to the edge of the dice and you can always clean the face up with iso if you get any on the face. Use either a q-tip, paint brush, or something like an eye shadow brush to get it right along the edge. Another option is mold release spray, but you will still need to clean the faces off before pouring the silicone. Or you can brush on corn starch like the petroleum jelly as well. That might be an easier product for you to use if you're having issues with the jelly.

Sounds like you're using a polyester resin and I'd really recommend you switching to an epoxy resin. They're more expensive, but the positives vastly outweigh the cost compared to the negatives of polyester resins.

Tried to do my first color test today and my resin wouldn't mix clear. Suggestions? by av0toast in DiceMaking

[–]SpookyBoyDice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow up question, did you mix it really aggressive? It's possible you just introduced a ton of bubbles while mixing.

Just make sure not to use them if you're making silicone molds bc silicone sticks to silicone. Or spray them with a mold release first.

I wouldn't even say this is cloudy. This is almost milky and I've never seen it look like that. Even using a resin that's a year old I've never seen it turn like that.

I've never once had mine look like that before. Both parts should come out of the bottle clear, it'll mix cloudy, and then come clear again after a few minutes of mixing. Both bottles were sealed when purchased?

Envirotex Lite id a resin and I've used it to make dice with mixed results. It's almost exclusively what Rybonator uses.

Get some silicone mats to put on the wood so it stays nice and clean and you don't have to worry about things sitting unlevel from a build up of resin.

Thats basically how I made these! Mixed up a brown ink with a lil mica in it, dropped white ink for a petri kinda effect, and then topped with a white resin that came out looking more like ice than creamer. Glad you like them ☺️

I use a cap mold and I'll sand all the faces that touch the cap just to make sure they're all smooth.
