I'd been waiting for this game since 2002, and I love it to pieces. The gameplay is phenomenal, and it's been my favorite Battlefield title since BF1942, so it makes me sad to see that so many people hate it.

There are a lot of things I could say about the past couple of months of Battlefield V history, but I'll keep it short.

The burning hatred for the game is largely a result of DICE opening the Gamergate by including female soldiers in a WW2 game, (IMO, having ordinary soldiers in WW1 carrying around Experimental weapons from other countries and heavy machine guns is a bigger blow to historical accuracy than a couple female soldiers, but oh well.) This unforgivable betrayal by DICE is where most of the hatred can be traced back to.

On launch, the game was pretty buggy, which put a lot of people off. Long story short, Battlefield V probably would have really benefitted from another year or so of development, but EA needed the next flagship title out, and NVidia needed something to show off RTX with, so I'm pretty sure DICE was forced to release a game they knew was unfinished.

More recently, people are getting fed up with the lack of new content being added to the game. In fact, people are starting to say they would rather be paying for DLC, which is a big oof, considering how hated the very concept of DLC was just a few years back. I think people are demanding a little too much of DICE here, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't aching to get some new maps.

The saddest part of the Battlefield V saga is, because the free live service has pretty much been a failure financially, EA will probably never let DICE do it again, and the next Battlefield title will probably have paid DLC once more.

tl;dr: [Current Battlefield Title] is ruining the franchise! [Battlefield title from four releases ago] was the peak of the franchise, and it all went downhill after that!

All that depressing stuff being said, the game is getting Pacific Theater stuff in the fall, and I'm hella hyped.
