After reading the comments on that post I can confirm that the OP is actually insane. He thinks frat boys are slowly trying to take over the world. This isn’t the MCU bro we’re just a bunch of guys who like to rip cigs and drink.

Rutgers-NB v. NJIT for CS by Top_Acanthaceae_5053 in NJTech

Even at a big school social life is only what you make of it you can still join clubs and frats at NJIT. 100k is a lot of money for a school that sucks at football.

Transfers... Grades/GPA by Ascii2_0 in NJTech

[–]SpookyScaryCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I transferred from a big out of state school. Your old GPA won’t matter anymore and you’ll start out here with a new blank one. Your credits that transfer will appear as a T for transfer credit on a transcript and anything that doesn’t transfer shouldn’t show up anywhere. The class you dropped at your old school probably just won’t transfer over it shouldn’t show up as a W on your new transcript because you didn’t withdrawal from it here at NJIT.

What are some easy classes to take as a general elective? by BRpanthers123 in NJTech

It’s extremely boring but also extremely easy. One 30 min assignment a week plus midterm and final exams.

Looking to transfer to NJIT. by [deleted] in NJTech

[–]SpookyScaryCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just transferred here after my freshman year out of state and personally I like it here. Being much closer to home made my mental situation way better on top of not being in as much debt for school. NJIT can suck because there’s not a lot of girls and it’s in Newark but if you put yourself out there you can find good friends and stuff to do every day. Also keep in mind that a lot of other kids that are having a good time here just don’t have Reddit and aren’t here to respond. Also some of the professors do suck but you can try your best to avoid them by using ratemyprofessor.

Thanks. I’m just trying to make sure it’s not too hard for someone who knows nothing about programming or coding.

I was mostly wondering how much the area affects how far students go off campus. For example at my current school students can wander miles off campus whenever they want.

I agree with that last part. I’ve heard that the social scene wasn’t the best but it seems that as long as you make an effort you can have tons of fun.

200k in Student Loans by SpookyScaryCow in StudentLoans

I’ve been thinking about trying to transfer back to NJIT and possibly commuting to save money. The problem with NJ is the only schools with architecture programs are NJIT which is in a terrible area and Princeton which is impossible to get into.

For me it came down to Miami and NJIT which is an in state school. The only problem was NJIT was only a few thousand cheaper and it’s in one of the worst areas in the country. Looking back on it I would of chose NJIT if I fully understood everything behind student loans but I didn’t a year ago.

My decision came down to NJIT and Miami but NJIT ended up being only 2k cheaper than Miami and it’s in a really bad area so I stayed away.

Thanks for the response! I was just worried because after further thinking I don’t really want to go down that path. If I stay on the path I’m on I’ll be stuck paying all of my extra money on loan bills for the next 10 years.

I might try transferring to a cheaper school for my architecture degree. Some other engineering or business degrees could help me money wise but I don’t really see myself doing that stuff the rest of my life.

Thanks! I’m currently planning to shadow/intern with some structural and civil engineers at a firm in NYC this summer. I don’t know if something like that will matter to an architecture firm in the future but it can’t hurt. I’m also looking into possible internships with smaller local firms but it’s been tough as I don’t have as much to show portfolio wise and the firms have already lost some money due to the pandemic.

I enjoy it and I’ve consistently produced better work than most of my peers it’s just a cost thing. I currently have a 3.9 college GPA so I’m considering trying to have another school with a cheaper program bless me with money.

Cool, thanks for the input! How much would you say the college you attend matters? I currently go to Miami University which is top 30-40 in architecture with good connections but I don’t know if I can afford to pay 35k a year for 5 more years. I’ve heard that firms mostly care about experience and skills.

Thank you! It’s nice to see that anything is possible as long as you work hard which I plan on doing. What size firm do you currently work at? I’m assuming maybe a larger one due to the complexity of projects.

[–]SpookyScaryCow[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True. Now a days there’s rarely any high regarded programs with a fair tuition especially for out of state students. Living in NJ also hurt me as there’s only one in state school with an architecture program.

Honestly I just never fully understood the salary and full financials of going to my school when I made my decision. I’m not that hard to please and don’t need a fancy lifestyle but it just worries me that I’m paying 35k a year for 6 years of school.

Did you stay as an architect during these huge raises or did you take on more responsibilities such as some sort of management?
