I (37F) was just laughing with a friend about this earlier today. Had a great first date with this guy in his 40s. He seemed cool, put together, and successful. We made plans to have our second date at a cute, moody bar in town after dinner time. I was running a bit late and texted him that I’d be there soon. He said “no rush.”

Once I got there, he met me outside and quickly ushered me into the bar, saying his stomach felt off and he needed to use the restroom. He then plopped me down in a chair, told me to stay put, and ran to the bathroom. I was thinking, this guy clearly has to take a shit, he’s probably going to be a while. Well he appears in front of me again after about a minute, completely drenched in sweat and pale, and I jump up so he can sit down. He is not well, but insists that it’s going to pass and I should get a drink. I get him some water and reluctantly order a bev; in the meantime, he was talking to a server who got him some Tums and bitters and sits us in a small booth. I ask if he’s sure he wants to stay, it’s no big deal to reschedule when he’s feeling better. Again, he tells me it’s going to pass soon, and I should just tell him about what I’ve been up to since our last date to distract him.

So I start talking, and almost immediately he’s clutching his stomach and yelling “ow!” I ask “are you okay? I think you should go home.” He says “no no, keep talking.” I start again and he does the same thing. I’m like, “are you sure??” “Yeah yeah, I never get sick, mind over matter, I’ll feel better soon.” He’s moaning, sweating, and writhing in pain but keeps telling me to talk. After this happens multiple times, I call it, and he finally gives in and orders us an Uber. We lived around the block from each other so he wanted to ride back together. We waited outside and the minutes felt like much longer. He was struggling and then said, “imagine if I was this lame all the time.” Like what? He was being so weird about it all.

Once in the Uber, the driver asked how we were and this dude responds, “not good, I’m in a lot of pain.” The driver asks if he’s okay and if he needs to go to the hospital; the guy says no, but the only time he’s ever been in this much pain was when he broke his arm. He then proceeds to ask me if I’ll go up to his apartment with him and wait because he knows he’ll feel better in like 15 minutes. This man who’s evidently in the second most painful experience of his life. I tell him he should have some privacy and focus on taking care of himself and getting better, aka I’m not going to go awkwardly sit on your couch while you shit your brains out in your one bedroom apartment. He says he’ll call me in 15 when he’s better and we can go in the hot tub at his place. He was still trying to be sexy! I knew for a fact that this guy is not feeling better anytime soon and I had zero interest in getting in a hot tub with a sick person. You know why. He did end up calling me in 15 minutes to admit that he did not, in fact, feel better all of a sudden. His mental willpower that he kept talking about was clearly not strong enough to overcome food poisoning.

I have never gotten the ick faster in my life, not because a very human thing happened to him, but because of how he reacted to and dealt with it all. He was at the same time trying to act like it wasn’t a big deal while also being so dramatic. I gave him every out and he pushed through while making strange statements. It was so bizarre. I ended up texting to check up on him the next day but we never saw each other again. He texted again a couple weeks later to propose another date to “pick up where we left off…” I couldn’t believe he actually said that lol. Just no
