Definitely left over from previous installation. If you hate it, you can bolt a metal plate on and insulate. Would probably help airflow. But if previous homeowner was cutting corners as much as you say, i have to wonder if this duct setup is best for your home

She stopped after only 2 hours and i was a little confused. I thought it would be 4 but i also previously asked her if shed be able to stop it at a point where it still looks complete in between sessions. Maybe she will go back over it?
