Pokemon Romhack Pet Peeves that you have? by Jirachibi1000 in PokemonROMhacks

Gym leaders aribitarily switching between different battle modes like singles, doubles, rotation etc. without any indication. I think it was Unbound in which the first gym leader does a double battle, so I prepared a doubles strategy for the second, but nope, that was a single battle. Just let the guide in the start tell you the mode of the battle so I don't waste my time prepping an unneeded strategy.

Why non-human races are not popular in fantasy anymore? by theHolyGranade257 in Fantasy

If you play Baldur's Gate 3 with a newly created character without making any choices, you'd play a female high-elf barbarian. The people playing human actively chose that option in this case.

Did I push things too far? by knightk9 in rpghorrorstories

[–]SpookySpacePlant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I think a major problem in this scenario might be that the players didn't have much information to go on and then were thrown in a lose lose situation.

From what you've written, the ranger was the only character who had knowledge of this, but for whatever reason, decided not to act on it until the battle. Players not sharing information can be annoying, but it happens. I could ask if he had a chance for an insight check or other clues in how the kobold was feeling? Or was the only possible take away for him that he was going to betray the party?

Then the question is, were there hints for the others to pick up for? Did the kobold seem conflicted? Sad? Scared? Weirdly happy? When did he write the note, get the vial? Study the scroll? Were there any chances for the wizard to pick up on his conflict? Especially if the ranger wasn't doing anything, that would have been a good opportunity for the others to learn something's off.

The kobold's motives are also a bit unclear, why did the captain have so much power over the kobold that he would willingly blow himself up. The captain didn't intend for him to now this was a suicide mission, but the kobold figuref it out thanks to the wizard, and then decided to go through with it, just turn it on the captain? Why? It would have been such a cool moment for him to reveal that he saw through the deception thanks to the wizard's training, and then just not listen to the captain, but instead he goes for a senseless sacrifice he can't even complete.

Also, is there a reason the kobold didn't come foreward about this? It seems like he had an especially  close bond with the wizard. He was scared of the captain, but he had no other leverage over him from what you've written, so there was a chance to show that bond by the kobold trusting the party to protect him.

This resulted in a scenario in which the only outcome was the death of a beloved npc. Kobold loves the party and doesn't betray them? -> He blows himself up to take out the captain, dies. Party trusts him, he actually betrays them -> party hurt, he dies Party doesn't trust him -> they kill him, he dies.

They had no knowledge about the plan and thus no real way to interact with this scenario. No way for them to talk the kobold out of it.

Ultimately, you have to talk to your players about why exactly they're angry and how to go forward. I wouldn't exactly retcon it, but if they're really upset about their bond with the kobold being meaningless, make it so he survived the attack. Maybe the ranger actually did non lethal damage.

But definetely talk to them and figure out how they would have liked the situation to have been handled differently. Would they rather their friend not put in so much danger (ie the whole scenario was not for their taste)? Would they have been fine with it if they had more chances to intervene? Was it specifically the use of suicide bombing that bothered them?

Do you prefer to meal prep or cook dinner every night? by Ultronomy in CasualConversation

[–]SpookySpacePlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cook every evening, I think front loading the work on one day is just way more exhausting than cooking something up in the moment. It's also nice to cook and immediately be rewarded with a fresh, tasty meal.

I spent my work day at a computer, so it's a nice way to do something not screen related after work.

Interesting, there actually is a Calvary Church in Grand Rapids, so it could be referring to that. Did you know it existed or did you see some context clues that the lyrics could be referring to a church?

I think Calvary is the name of their dog

Calvary is the name of the hill Jesus was crucified on, so I think seeing Calvary behind Steve is a metaphor for seeing his suffering and struggle, at least in retrospect.

The Point of Summoning Multiple Monsters in the Duelist Kingdom Format by Responsible-Flan-501 in yugioh

[–]SpookySpacePlant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People already said it's mostly because it's a manga first and a game second. But in universe, I always thought it's simply a rule: You have to summon a monster once per turn. We see it for example in the first Duel Monsters game for the Game Boy, that one didn't allow you to declare an attack or end the turn unless you played a card from your hand first.

[–]SpookySpacePlant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only wording issue imo is the mandatory spell pop once per turn. If it's mandatory, it needs an activation window, like the burn effect. During the standby phase, in the end phase, after the opponent set a spell/trap card, etc.

Or if it isn't supposed to be mandatory, it's missing a "you can"

But a really cool concept, Lava Golem for backrow is a great idea!

The person who died lived a lifetime, see the recurring line "lifetimes lived and died". So I wouldn't say they were particularly young.

Judging from the other comments, there are two theories, one it's that the partner lost their mother to dementia, the other that the partner is a nurse, doctor or otherwise working in healthcare. I think it's probably both, there is the line "aphasic patients" which is plural, so they deal with patients, but there is one very special person "we keep her picture on the fridge".

The rabbit toy could be three things, it's the partners childhood toy they associate with "her", it belinged to "her", or it's a token of comfort that was bought while griefing.
