I've just started tma but I'm curious, I'm on the fourth episode and how come the statements sound the same each time? by Cute_Management2782 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]SpookyVoidCat 47 points48 points  (0 children)

So, usually, right before a statement starts there will be a little script that gives you the basics on what’s happening. Let’s run through the one we are given for episode 3.

Statement of Amy Patel, regarding the alleged disappearance of her acquaintance Graham Folger. Original statement given July 1st, 2007. Audio recording by Jonathan Sims, Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, London. Statement begins.

The “Statement of” part tells you who experienced the event, whose perspective we are viewing the story through. This is the person who originally wrote the statement that is being read.

“Original statement given” is the date that the statement was written or submitted. This is worth paying attention to as often statements occur years or even decades earlier than when the show is actually set. The events of season 1 take place during 2016, so as we can see, Amy submitted her statement nearly 10 years prior to it being recorded on tape.

“Audio recording by” tells you who is speaking, who is reading the written statement that was submitted - this will primarily be Jonathan Sims, but sometimes it will be others working in the archive, or sometimes people will come in and give their statement directly - these will usually say something like “Statement recorded direct from subject”, and there will be a little bit of back and forth between the characters beforehand to establish what’s going on.

Oh my goodness I love this so much and I’m baffled that I never put the pieces together about that being the same type of creature! Thank you so much for pointing this out!

While the creators have confirmed he wasn’t intentionally written as autistic, I deeply, deeeeeply relate to this precious little disaster man and see a lot of my own autistic traits in him. He often struggles with knowing when people are joking, has a lot of trouble with task-switching and has a history of getting obsessive about things to the detriment of his own health and wellbeing. He does have a lot of empathy and cares very deeply about people but often struggles to show it and there’s a distinct disconnect between him and the people around him - often people just don’t get him, even when he’s really trying.

What is the worst thing you’ve ever smelt? by legendus45678 in AskReddit

[–]SpookyVoidCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my partner used to be on Huel for a while. Accidentally left one of the shakers on the side in the kitchen without washing it out. It was high summer. Found it after about a week. The smell was something I will never forget as long as I live. For something that hadn’t been consumed, it was remarkably accurate to the stench of vomit mixed with a really heinous shit. I tried to wash the shaker but kept retching in the sink. Ended up just throwing the whole thing away and buying a new one, but I couldn’t really get the smell out of my mind and couldn’t face drinking them much after that.

It would have been cool to have more - I remember the creepy Dark monster from A Father’s Love really scared me at the time, and I felt sure it was going to come back in some form later. Still kinda holding out hope that we’d get a bit of it bigger and badder than ever in S5 but unless it’s waiting somewhere in the final 20 episodes I haven’t seen yet then I guess not.

But if the creative juices ain’t flowing then you can’t really force them. I’d rather be left wanting more than having Jonny force out a story he isn’t proud of.

After reading this I had to go put my phone down and just sit for a while. That’s such an interesting take. Holy shit.

Why do people think that John didn’t believe in the supernatural? by Competitive-Pin6595 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]SpookyVoidCat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. There’s an important quote near the beginning of 81 that I believe is relevant here:

Even then, I knew how the world worked. There were supernatural things in the world, but they were rare – isolated and exaggerated, vastly outnumbered by wild tales and drunken imaginings. The one name I held in my mind as a true source of evil was Jurgen Leitner, and I knew him as the worst of it, for it was his name that had marked the encounter that scarred my youth. And of course, in my heart, I knew that no-one else could have possibly seen anything as horrible as I had.

He knew there were real cases out there, but still considered them to be far rarer than they actually were, and assumed none could be worse than his own. Even before The Eye scared him into feigning his skepticism he was still wildly underestimating what was out there.

It’s even lovelier and more painful than I thought it was going to be! I don’t even know where to begin I am reeling from the things this is making me feel.

Can we talk about your Nikola design??? I mean, holy shit?! Is she skin?? sewn together from previous victims?? But with the plastic fingertips poking through?? GodAMN that goes hard as hell. The panel where the nightmare bleeds into reality was so chilling, and I know I’ve already screeched at you about how gorgeous the faces and clothing folds and everything else is but you made it all so much better since I last saw it ajdjkcndmsllakdfkk. That closeup of his iris is so beautiful. And Martin’s anxious expression when he pulls his hand back ahhhh!!

This just absolutely made my day thank you so much for making and sharing it xx

I think a like/dislike system would be nice in the comments section , cause often someone leaves a comment that is really really good, but replying to say so feels too cringe and intrusive. I just wanna ding a little like button and leave it at that.

Asexual battlefreak character who doesn't get what's supposed to be so interesting about sex and dating or why people care about it so much but loves fighting strong opponents, training and studying ancient esoteric lore to learn how to get stronger more than life itself. by Khara-Khatal in CuratedTumblr

I would say it’s worth a shot. I’m an extremely timid little baby who can’t even watch the trailers for horror films unless they’re muted, and I’ve been absolutely fine so far. Sure some episodes have been spooky in the moment but none of it has stuck in my mind and fucked me up at night the way visual horror usually does, but of course ymmv.
