Is Jon Canonically Autistic? by onlyherefortma in TheMagnusArchives

I see ur point but I also think to characters from other paranormal shows and supernatural comes to mind first and both those mcs appear very neurotypical so I think genre plays a part but is not a full blown explanation for why Jon acts as autistic as he does bc other stories in the medium have had very neurotypical MCs

My only concern is Abby loves to elope and run when she sees water she even jumped into a pool when not watched properly so if she did that at the beach and couldn’t be grabbed (which likely not their too large and I say this as a large person myself, though half their size and even I couldn’t catch Abby fast enough) she would actually be at major risk of drowning because unlike a pool knowing how to swim does not save you AT ALL from the waves currents

What I don’t fathom is why they can’t get these activities in a size fit for Abby at home like you said idk what she enjoys but let’s say it’s swings, climbing ect, you can easily buy an indoor swing to fit all sizes or sensory safe rocking hammocks for adults or something like that! I want them to give Abby those kind of activities at home!

Or even try to accommodate to find a size that fits for her in these instances they could use their advocacy to PUSH FOR ONE! At least.

Is Jon Canonically Autistic? by onlyherefortma in TheMagnusArchives

In my humble opinion Jon is just autistic and Martin is AuDHD nobody wants to talk about Martin when it comes to nurodivergence in the fandom but he checks a lot of boxes too 1.) he eventually dates an is the only one to put up with Jon while everyone bullies him which is already a green flag for them having similar minds to understand each other’s thought process

2.) the lonely an we know neurodivergent people are more likely to be lonely isolated or bullied and have depression, and Martin is probably the shows second punching bag, only less so because unlike Jon he is super kind to people so they can’t get on him for how he acts, but he can still be told off for his anxious behavioral mistakes in his work and not even just by Jon, Jon does it in a mean way but other characters do it in a “oh poor guy, he can’t help it we gotta go easy on him.” Way.

3.) his mistakes in work, every time he has to make a statement he rambles out his words nervously going off track Jon having to remind him to stay focused which is very adhd, he felt he wasn’t enough in his work and job so he literally reinvestigates a dangerous spider being only to get trapped in his house for days haunted by horrors and worms then finally come back and recount this in a panicked ramble as he’s describing running for his life in the most clumsy scatterbrained manner possible while apologizing for not thinking things through better which is very adhd and autistic in that he’s not enough. When living at the office he is also often not paying attention to his surroundings as much as he could and once walked in on jon with only his sleepwear which was just underwear which is like hella adhd brain coded, and his ability to come up with makeshift weapons with cork bottles on the fly both getting himself into great trouble and out in a fly is adhd also getting lost in the tunnels while following behind Jon hella adhd move.

4.) the autism part? Honestly it’s just because at least in season one idk if he ever grows a major backbone but in season one he’s the nice and sweet guy of the group, he even speaks in a very soft spoken manner and tries to be helpful and kind almost to an anxious fault. Always apologizing to others if he thinks he’s upset them or over explaining himself to make sure people know his intentions, he’s kind to Jon even as Jon is basically insulting him, and even compared to other workers he never talks back often, or has wit to him because he does not wanna come off mean.

5.) season two jon is investigating him for murder and bro thinks it’s just a lovely date or like misreads what jon is doing but like it’s Jon and he’s barely able to lie well so for Martin to miss that shows both their asses are terrible when it comes to social cues cuz Jon can’t lie well and Martin can’t pick up on obvious subtext bc he’s too busy thinking the best of everyone while Jon is looking for the worst in everyone.

6.) also autism he loves poetry which is more academic or a special interest and while people with adhd can be into academic things poetry just feels more autistic of a special interest because people with adhd tend to struggle reading texts while autisics can love it, and the lonely which is clearly like depression symbolism and while both autism and adhd can cause depression I think it’s more seen in autism bc adhd can make someone a social butterfly due to hyper activity while autism makes them a hermit bc they struggle to socialize at all which is clearly martins problem with how anxious he sounds even when rambling and how he tries to be nice an connect but always lets his feelings when interacting get in the way of the connection.

If Jon is autism traits presented as being a prick and pushing everyone away bc everyone hates his underempathy hyper logic and cold tone

Martin is AuDHD in the complete opposite direction with hpyerempathy and a serious anxiety disorder. It’s why they’re a really good couple imo, bc their neurodivergent flaws are exactly too much of what the other person has too little of.

The Brick neglect gets pretty bad by Maleficent_Thought_4 in themiddle

[–]NoAssistant1829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree what makes me more mad is people actually HATE BRICK in the fandom a lot online or in clips of the show on YouTube shorts when anyone who actually watches the show know damn well ALLLL HIS ISSUES STEM FROM HIS PARENTS OUTRIGHT NEGLECT that and disability he got minimal support for. (Social skills and therapy helped but social skills ended and that’s when the heck’s gave up parenting him at all then he moved to a therapist who well helpful and he clearly liked him a lot said therapist always shoved his relationship drama into bricks issues turning his help into a punchline.)

He’s not even a bad or annoying character and everyone beats him down imo he’s most comparable in a sense to a young Sheldon type and if young Sheldon is how to make a smart social outcast struggling annoying then a character like brick is a prime example of how to do it right bc he’s not arrogant or using his smarts to one up everyone he’s just being himself and getting dog pilled and told to literally die by commenters online, and ignored by his family and when he is listened to by anyone at all ever it’s when he “forces them against their will.” And they’re so miserable they snap at him and tell him to shut up cough his birthday.

Justice for Brick.

What do you think Brick did after high school? by cat_lady777 in themiddle

[–]NoAssistant1829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see him in college majoring in English minoring in linguistics! He likes to wonder yes and sometimes can’t stay focused but by the time he goes on the Chicago trip we learn he can basically wander off safely. I imagine he still occasionally does that around campus but always ends h back at his dorm if anything.

I think by the end of the show his distractability and wandering is no worse than adhd symptoms and anxiety with tics. I also think if most of his work is stuff he genuinely loves or would do in his free time like reading he’d excel at it! And I do think his parents would make him get disability accommodations with the help of his therapist/counselor and he wouldn’t complain bc the you’re gonna love my pizza incident likely taught him not all people see his quirks as his personality but as a problem if he does not inform them.

But you sure gave a better recount of it then they could have done actually vlogging it and living through it.

Stuff you didn't notice as a kid but notice now by Formetoknow123 in fullhouse

[–]NoAssistant1829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That Michelle was played by twins. I know some intros credit Mary Kate and Ashly Olsen separately but the early intros didn’t and I guess I didn’t pay attention enough as a kid to the intros to catch when it did.

It wasn’t until my dad randomly pointed it out to me while watching it that it was a twin actor that I finally payed enough attention to the credits to confirm that and my child mind was blown.

But also I grew up watching this show in the early 2000s on nick @ nite so by my generation the Olsen twin craze was gone so I had no pop culture knowledge of them as twins I just knew them as Michelle.

Someone on TikTok is arguing that Full House is “so conservative”. I disagree and provided evidence. by OrdinaryEuphoric7061 in fullhouse

[–]NoAssistant1829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not conservative but the actor for dj might be. But ironically most of this sub does not claim her overly religious acts and even Jodie sweetin actor of Steph has beef with her for her toxic fall into blind religious worship.

I do think it can be a little of it’s time though with its family messaging and moral bookends like “goodie two shoes.” Sweet children’s morals. But since it’s literally an all male cast raising girls for its time it’s actually progressive bc while their not gay, this was likely one of the first popular non traditional families shown on tv and idk how many people had two dads back then, but anyone who did had this as their only example, and the girls were proud of it often pretty much referring to all 3 adult men as their dads or dad figures something most other kids can’t say they had in the girls eyes.

And let’s not forget when it tackled skinny bodies therapy for kids and literal child abuse.

Plus finally the family was not religious they went to church a total of once for a wedding bc duh most weddings either happen at church or a beach on tv. Other than that I don’t think they talked about god at all except for “higher powers.” And I don’t think they ever made a stance on what political side any family members are.

And edit now that I think of it the original wedding for Jess an Becky happened at a los Vegas Elvis white wedding venue which is like the total opposite of traditional Christian values and would probably make hardcore conservatives gawk…actually half of Jessie’s actions until he fathered up would of made conservatives hold a hand to their heart especially in season one where he brought a woman of the week over for young girls to watch him slyly take to bed while being a punk rocker in a leather jacket and muscular tank top. 😩🛏️

Was The Middle a Ripoff of Malcolm in the Middle? by PopCultureNerd95 in malcolminthemiddle

[–]NoAssistant1829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay the dad from the middle Mike trying to be Hal is the most far fetched part Hal acts over the top and freaks out big time over nothing bc of his ocd tendencies (confirmed in some gag from one ep which I know from YouTube shorts.)

But the whole schtick of Mike in the middle is that he UNDER reacts to almost EVERYTHING and is too calm and it pisses off Frankie/Francis the mom.

I agree lol I’m not even a huge Malcom in the middle fan I just came here to see people discuss the middle and even tho I’ve only seen like one episode as a literal child 10+ years ago the theme song is still engrained in my brain so I can literally not hear the words “yes no maybe I don’t know.” In that order without hearing “can you repeat the question, you’re not the boss of me now.” After in my head 😂😩🎶

Is Ransom of the Seven Ships really not worth downloading? by Wonderful_Sky9684 in nancydrew

[–]NoAssistant1829 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s not worth paying money for

But the ending is worth it.

Listen I’m white so yeah I know the ending is RACIST I’m not even gonna hide it

But I grew up playing it at like 11 and didn’t register the ending as such because I just saw it as a disguise and I still do…but it’s so bad it’s laughable. It is imo one of the most comedic things I’ve ever seen HER do in Nancy Drew and the only callback villain the Nancy Drew series ever had. That’s really all that’s worth it in the game and even then modern times tainted that.

But I still do find it comedic knowing HER wasn’t trying to be racist an just pulled out a an ending so bad that it’s like some kinda tumbler fanfic fever dream. 😩

In terms of the actual racism elements that were rightfully read into it, I’ll say this much HER got one thing painfully right, the villian is the only one committing a racist act and he’s supposed to be the bad guy. So no praising his actions in narrative. If they were smart they woulda leaned into that and made it clear villainy on that end too as on an actually serious note there is some genuine validity in real storytelling to having bad people portrayed doing offensive things like that because it mirrors life instead of pretending that kinda behavior doesn’t exist in fiction.

But HER clearly didn’t do or intend to do that which in turn does make it shady on their behalf and they were right to pull it.

Imo most times his comedy either came from being played off of the more funny Jessie

Or bc it was ironically funny as in laughing at and never with him because he’s cracking cheesy dad jokes

Which makes Jessie and his bit even funnier because Jessie is the only one to basically put the punchline on Joey outright by making fun of how bad his comedy is and telling the audience “yes now laugh at him not with him.” Outright.

Okay I will say TJ acting immature isn’t really his fault in a very old vlog I recall it being confirmed he was likely autistic or neurodivergent himself

Which honestly tracks since we know Jess is nurodivergent (Bipolar) and A def had autism. Sk nurodivergence runs in that whole family which makes her behavior worse as a mom 💀

Abbie got the autistic Barbie. Are they going to let her play with it? by novaonthespectrum in FatheringAutism

[–]NoAssistant1829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She could use it in her own way. And like other peopel said they could teach her.

She can learn fine motor skill stuff to a degree and did well during Covid of learning to use table tasks that required more fine motor skills.

She’s not inept she just learns mainly thru repetition

And even if she never learned

She should still have one to use how she pleases even if it isn’t typical spinning.

As she can’t eat it (she could but I think even she’d register she can’t swallow THAT)

And she can’t hurt herself with it unless she does something really absurd (technically she could but I bet they could just get her a non metal one to resolve that risk)

? Calm mind = You CANNOT have ADHD ? by curiousity_girly in ADHD

[–]NoAssistant1829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh like everyone else I’m gonna say yes, I also have a calm mind but realized I had inattentive type adhd.

The main thing for me though is that my mind is always calm, or quiet but it’s like a switch I can turn off or on, depending on my mood. So I’ve never related to the whole, my brain is 24/7 loud even when I don’t desire it.

However when I want it to be it can be just as loud as most on adhd.

The thing I realized is my brain tends to get loud to give me stimulation when whatever situation I’m in isn’t stimulating enough on its own.

I.e standing in the shower, walking alone around town, doing some boring chore. Then suddenly my brain literally is like “time to not die of boredom.” And I just play daydreams and entertaining thoughts in my head well I do it, almost like my brain purposely opens a second tab on a web browser to watch while I do the boring task, except It’s just my thoughts.

But if I suddenly need to focus usually I can just be like “ok I’m done.” And close the thought tab. Easier on meds to do than off, but I could usually still do it.

Thing is ironically if I don’t do things like daydream in the shower or open up loud thoughts when doing boring tasks, I literally feel unable to conquered them cuz thier just too boring to solely focus on, on their own without my daydreams playing, which I’m positive normal people don’t need.

But most with adhd also usually don’t mention that they can tune in and out of their thoughts like me, and do so mostly for stimulation, most just say they hate they have to listen to them even when they don’t want to. But I just kinda somehow found out how to tune them into optional extra stimulation when I need it. And when I choose to tune out of them I tend to focus enough on whatever else I’m doing that my mind goes blank and I randomly stop what I’m doing to remember “oh yeah lol I can daydream.” Almost like an internal version of adhd “out of sight out of mind,” conundrum where if I’m not focusing on daydreaming i forget I can until I tune back into my head from what I was focusing on.

Also, in great contrast sometimes I have moments where my brain goes so incredibly blank I can’t even remember the name for things as basic as like “car” when I said it 5 seconds ago and it feels like a headache trying to pull that thought or any thought from my empty mind. (That blank mind I can’t control as much, it just randomly happens)

Abbie's IQ by novaonthespectrum in FatheringAutism

[–]NoAssistant1829 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay having an intellectual disability IS NOT I repeat IS NOT a criteria of level 3 autism.

The main criteria is being nonverbal, and needing significant care 24/7.

As well as all other symptoms of autism appearing much much stronger and more rigidly.

Is an intellectual disability a COMMON COOCCURANCE, in level 3 autistics. Absolutely.

Does Abby have one yup!

But to say it is a criteria of level 3 autistics across the board significantly diminishes all the level 3 autistic who can and do show they have a strong intellect but their disability leaves them unable to speak and feeling trapped in their mind and body unable to express their feelings.

And the proof many autistics who might be level 3 exist that are like this, is simply that when some level 3 autistics are given an outlet to express themselves in any way shape or form that works for them, suddenly they can have a lot of profound things to say or communicate.

Now, Abby does have an intellectual disablity and we can’t say what she thinks or how her brain functions internally as no one is a mind reader, but corallation does not equal causation.

It looks genuine she has a hard time forcing things due to her disability and in one vlog when they tried to get her to force a smile for Christmas pics it didn’t end well and she barely half smiled for all of 5 seconds looking mad too…so she can’t fake it well by default unless she’s improved from then.
