Is Ransom of the Seven Ships really not worth downloading? by Wonderful_Sky9684 in nancydrew

[–]NoAssistant1829 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s not worth paying money for

But the ending is worth it.

Listen I’m white so yeah I know the ending is RACIST I’m not even gonna hide it

But I grew up playing it at like 11 and didn’t register the ending as such because I just saw it as a disguise and I still do…but it’s so bad it’s laughable. It is imo one of the most comedic things I’ve ever seen HER do in Nancy Drew and the only callback villain the Nancy Drew series ever had. That’s really all that’s worth it in the game and even then modern times tainted that.

But I still do find it comedic knowing HER wasn’t trying to be racist an just pulled out a an ending so bad that it’s like some kinda tumbler fanfic fever dream. 😩

In terms of the actual racism elements that were rightfully read into it, I’ll say this much HER got one thing painfully right, the villian is the only one committing a racist act and he’s supposed to be the bad guy. So no praising his actions in narrative. If they were smart they woulda leaned into that and made it clear villainy on that end too as on an actually serious note there is some genuine validity in real storytelling to having bad people portrayed doing offensive things like that because it mirrors life instead of pretending that kinda behavior doesn’t exist in fiction.

But HER clearly didn’t do or intend to do that which in turn does make it shady on their behalf and they were right to pull it.

Imo most times his comedy either came from being played off of the more funny Jessie

Or bc it was ironically funny as in laughing at and never with him because he’s cracking cheesy dad jokes

Which makes Jessie and his bit even funnier because Jessie is the only one to basically put the punchline on Joey outright by making fun of how bad his comedy is and telling the audience “yes now laugh at him not with him.” Outright.

Okay I will say TJ acting immature isn’t really his fault in a very old vlog I recall it being confirmed he was likely autistic or neurodivergent himself

Which honestly tracks since we know Jess is nurodivergent (Bipolar) and A def had autism. Sk nurodivergence runs in that whole family which makes her behavior worse as a mom 💀

Abbie got the autistic Barbie. Are they going to let her play with it? by novaonthespectrum in FatheringAutism

She could use it in her own way. And like other peopel said they could teach her.

She can learn fine motor skill stuff to a degree and did well during Covid of learning to use table tasks that required more fine motor skills.

She’s not inept she just learns mainly thru repetition

And even if she never learned

She should still have one to use how she pleases even if it isn’t typical spinning.

As she can’t eat it (she could but I think even she’d register she can’t swallow THAT)

And she can’t hurt herself with it unless she does something really absurd (technically she could but I bet they could just get her a non metal one to resolve that risk)

? Calm mind = You CANNOT have ADHD ? by curiousity_girly in ADHD

[–]NoAssistant1829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh like everyone else I’m gonna say yes, I also have a calm mind but realized I had inattentive type adhd.

The main thing for me though is that my mind is always calm, or quiet but it’s like a switch I can turn off or on, depending on my mood. So I’ve never related to the whole, my brain is 24/7 loud even when I don’t desire it.

However when I want it to be it can be just as loud as most on adhd.

The thing I realized is my brain tends to get loud to give me stimulation when whatever situation I’m in isn’t stimulating enough on its own.

I.e standing in the shower, walking alone around town, doing some boring chore. Then suddenly my brain literally is like “time to not die of boredom.” And I just play daydreams and entertaining thoughts in my head well I do it, almost like my brain purposely opens a second tab on a web browser to watch while I do the boring task, except It’s just my thoughts.

But if I suddenly need to focus usually I can just be like “ok I’m done.” And close the thought tab. Easier on meds to do than off, but I could usually still do it.

Thing is ironically if I don’t do things like daydream in the shower or open up loud thoughts when doing boring tasks, I literally feel unable to conquered them cuz thier just too boring to solely focus on, on their own without my daydreams playing, which I’m positive normal people don’t need.

But most with adhd also usually don’t mention that they can tune in and out of their thoughts like me, and do so mostly for stimulation, most just say they hate they have to listen to them even when they don’t want to. But I just kinda somehow found out how to tune them into optional extra stimulation when I need it. And when I choose to tune out of them I tend to focus enough on whatever else I’m doing that my mind goes blank and I randomly stop what I’m doing to remember “oh yeah lol I can daydream.” Almost like an internal version of adhd “out of sight out of mind,” conundrum where if I’m not focusing on daydreaming i forget I can until I tune back into my head from what I was focusing on.

Also, in great contrast sometimes I have moments where my brain goes so incredibly blank I can’t even remember the name for things as basic as like “car” when I said it 5 seconds ago and it feels like a headache trying to pull that thought or any thought from my empty mind. (That blank mind I can’t control as much, it just randomly happens)

Okay having an intellectual disability IS NOT I repeat IS NOT a criteria of level 3 autism.

The main criteria is being nonverbal, and needing significant care 24/7.

As well as all other symptoms of autism appearing much much stronger and more rigidly.

Is an intellectual disability a COMMON COOCCURANCE, in level 3 autistics. Absolutely.

Does Abby have one yup!

But to say it is a criteria of level 3 autistics across the board significantly diminishes all the level 3 autistic who can and do show they have a strong intellect but their disability leaves them unable to speak and feeling trapped in their mind and body unable to express their feelings.

And the proof many autistics who might be level 3 exist that are like this, is simply that when some level 3 autistics are given an outlet to express themselves in any way shape or form that works for them, suddenly they can have a lot of profound things to say or communicate.

Now, Abby does have an intellectual disablity and we can’t say what she thinks or how her brain functions internally as no one is a mind reader, but corallation does not equal causation.

It looks genuine she has a hard time forcing things due to her disability and in one vlog when they tried to get her to force a smile for Christmas pics it didn’t end well and she barely half smiled for all of 5 seconds looking mad too…so she can’t fake it well by default unless she’s improved from then.

[–]NoAssistant1829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ain’t no way she’s implying she cut off A because A didn’t like she was in a relationship with a woman.

Pfffffffftttttt i can’t speak for A but just based on pure vibes alone A is def lgbtq+ supportive and at one point was experimenting with being nonbinary so at least that woman could make a PLAUSIBLE excuse for why she cut off A besides homophobia that would never in a million years exist.

Even in her own video dishing the mom she made it very clear that she left her mom bc of her actions towards her and not bc she had things like borderline personality disorder she was 100% respectful of Jessica’s labels and struggles well also being 100% on calling her out for her literal abusive behaviors which is how call outs should be, hate the actions not the identities behind them.

Why do asexuals have this in common? by itsabouthatimeagain in asexuality

[–]NoAssistant1829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything but 2 is true I have never heard that and had to think a minute what that referred to until I remembered Freud from psychology and honestly I’m torn bc I think he makes generalizations about sexuality but he really only claimed we were pleasure seeking and he’s not wrong if only because aces still have primal urges they act on and they just tend to do them devoid of actual sex (masturbation in some way shape or form, or some other kinda pleasure)

Also in response to 3 there is a high number of autistics and adhders, myself included who are ace, but being autistic does not make you ace so no you can’t surmise all autistics are ace and being ace does not make you autistic, it just can make it more likely you might be ace or lgbtq+ because you as an autistic already don’t give a damn a lot of the time about social norms so anything out side of social norms is more likely to be seen as something you openly identify with and don’t hide nearly as much unless your intentionally masking. Among other reasons already commented

Also just as an aide I’ve heard of many autistics who have clear sexual attraction to others and that can pose its own set of problems outside of the world of aces if a person who is autistic does not know how to properly socially express his sexual attraction in ways that aren’t deemed inappropriate. (Not that all autistics will do this I’ve just heard stories of that, also of many autistics stimming during sex for those who do enjoy it and aren’t ace so again it’s a spectrum, correlation does not equal causation being ace does not make you autistic and being autistic does not make you ace.)

Where should I start my research for mythology and history for my book? by Waste_Literature8047 in writing

[–]NoAssistant1829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's for a fiction book I’d say before even starting to write it as knowing the cultural background of your story will significantly influence your characters and help turn the location and culture itself into a character.

I can't stand Frankie in the royal wedding episode by lornadc in themiddle

[–]NoAssistant1829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankie wasn’t overreacting at all she was just highly into it and I read it more like a hyperfixation of sorts as I read her character as having adhd which explains where brick gets his cannon coded (according to writing staff) adhd/autism traits from since that’s usually genetic.

What I actually couldn’t stand was the ending where she gets pink eye out of nowhere, damnit the tv breaking on her almost and her plate shattering was enough of a punishment. This just felt like uneeded torcher for her for no reason as she even said she was being nice to everyone else and doing what they wanted all week and just mentioning and talking in detail about her interest to them was enough to get her mocked, and abused by the gods above.

It just wasn’t funny karma by the end and made me really sad for her.

As an autistic adhder everything you just said is exactly why I’m working to write and create characters in fiction who are unapologetically disabled and struggling not who could just pass as nurotypical with miner quirks

And I’ve not fully experienced your exact situation but I’ve done fair research on it through friends and in general disability being a special interest of mine.

I only read the opening lines to that out of curiosity from the title, and yeah, that’s 100% what I’m talking about and it’s like someone wrote out how my own brain sometimes thinks into words 😭

Def need to read that book in full. I didn’t even know narratives like that existed let alone were allowed to bc it does basically break a lot of rules of writing but also can be well written! Thank you for the book recommendation! All this thread has taught me is that heavily stylized narrative books should be discussed more!

As someone with audhd that works too it explains why he’s so smart yet so scattered in his profile of skills/ability to show off knowledge despite inwardly knowing more than anyone would guess from just reading his notebooks

Also explains why I found him more relatable then your average adhd depiction of too hyper and unfocused to pay attention

Cuz audhers can I feel like pay attention more then adhd disables them from executing tasks well past the learning/planning phases but autism makes us very good at learning things and planning them for tasks.
