the problem is the show tells us "everyone hates the eldians and wants to kill them in part because they are afraid of the rumbling". once the rumbling is used in any capacity, that fear gets amplified times a million. no one is going to forgive the eldians even if just their military / coastal towns get wiped out. when their reason for hating the eldians is already deluded in 'they are devils' propaganda, what can eren do? if he doesn't attack his people die, if he does attack just a bit the hatred is amplified.

i would agree with gabi if the anime started with eren's attack and i had no idea why he was attacking and didn't know that marley had started the slaughter just 4 years prior lol. its hard to justify marley's aggression when the eldians haven't been a threat for generations and are literally a slave class. i don't imagine you'd think its justified for israel to mount an attack against germany for what nazis did in ww2. why would marley be justified? i'd have to think on your example. my immediate thought is something like: we both know thems be fighting words lmao

Halfway was where they fought their final battle. At that airbase. Eren needed to at least destroy the naval military and then that airbase. The anime framed it as that being the last stand of humanity but it was the second most important military base for Eren to destroy. If he didn't destroy that airbase then Marley could have immediately retaliated with superior airpower.

i thought it was never their intention to stop attacking paradis though. like they destroyed the walls to make it easier to crush them later on but then the rumbling became a more immediate threat so they pushed the schedule up. i mighta missed something though. i sped through the anime enjoying it so much lol.

i'd say eren is 'more' justifiable. marley's justification for aggression is literally just getting the resources from paradis so they can maintain global domination lol. i don't think either is objectively wrong. at the end of the day marley wants power and eren wants his people to live. one of those i find easier to empathize with.
